Jeff and I took a walk on Saturday - the boys live really close to the town square, so I slathered on sunscreen and off we went - it was 93 degrees but really wasn't bad - of course, I was wearing shorts and a sleeveless top (sometimes I just don't care who sees my fat arms, which are getting less fat - yay for my workouts!) so that helped. Many of the shops were having Memorial weekend sidewalk sales, and I had fun going through the clothes racks, looking for and actually finding things to try on. This was so cool - for YEARS I've been the one to stand back (and pretended not to mind that I couldn't participate) while the people I've been out shopping with have looked through the clothes for fabulous bargains - none for me, as we all know that they never have plus-sized clothes at those boutique stores. I remember one such trip - I was visiting family in Oregon, and my mom, sister-in-law and I were shopping - my sister-in-law was trying so hard to find something that would fit me - she was very sweet and being so positive, but if the store didn't have "Lane" or "Bryant" in the name, it was pretty futile. But that was then. On Saturday, I found a couple of cute tops and brought them inside the store to try on. My favorite one fit - oh happy day! The other one that was just ok was too big(!) - which was shocking. Here's a picture of my new top, which will make its debut on a Fashion Friday post in the near future:
And here's a close up of the price tag:
Can you believe this top started out at $80??? I feel like I scored big time with only paying $10 - not that I EVER would have paid $80 for a knit top! I wondered about the "as is" on the tag, but all of the stores in the square write that on their sale merchandise - weird, but there was nothing wrong with it.
Oh, one other place we discovered on the square - a newly-opened frozen yogurt shop! I swear, I think I'm like a homing pigeon when it comes to finding these places, lol! This one had more of the "sweet" flavors - my favorite is still Red Mango, but when in I got up early on Sunday to go running - we took Paco and went to campus - I figured it should be pretty safe to run there (as I have already established in this post that I'm a chicken when it comes to running in strange (to me) places). Here we are, all ready to go:
As the sweat has been pouring into my eyes lately (thank you hot Texas weather), I tried wearing a Bondi Band under my hat (and had my hair in a very short ponytail) - this worked great! I also wore for the first time an armband that held my iTouch - I've been carrying it in my hand, and I'm always afraid that I will stumble over a curb or something and it will go flying. This also worked great - I just turned the iTouch upside down so the speaker was closer to my head and I heard the music just fine! (I don't like to run with earbuds for safety reasons). The run on campus was nice as there was a lot of shade from the buildings and trees. Plus at 7:30 on a Sunday morning I had the place to myself! As I hadn't run for a week, and it was already 80 degrees, I wasn't at my best - but I enjoyed both the run and looking around at all of the cool things on campus. And since I was just running for fun, at one point when I was running down a street and came to the bottom of a hill, I turned around and went a different direction - I figured I was already working hard for this run - why kill myself? Although when I told Jeff what I did later, he was very disappointed in me...but when he runs three miles in the heat and humidity, then maybe I'll listen to him (probably not).
My eating has been much better this visit - really, it's the eating out that kills me - not that I go off the deep end with what I order (well, except for those two breakfasts last week), but I just feel better when I eat my "normal" food. Bring our regular food to Denton was a good idea...plus my wallet is a lot better off!
