Who knew that losing weight would bring on a case of Adult Onset Athletics? Certainly not me! I was never part of a team sport as a child, and pretty much hated P.E. and would do my darnedest to get out of whatever horrible thing we had to do. So imagine my surprise when I caught the running bug - this was so not me.
I am definitely a late bloomer when it comes to running - I ran my first mile on September 2, 2009 at the age of 46. I couldn't believe that I actually did it - after losing nearly 100 pounds, I was finally a runner! Six months later, I ran my first 5K fun run on February 26, 2010 and even though it was cold and windy, I was hooked. I am most definitely a novice runner, but the idea that I am an athlete is absolutely thrilling to me and I love seeing what my body can do.
