Birthday Recap

Best day WEEK of the year!!!

I turned 53 yesterday, woohoo!  I am not one of those people who bemoans getting older - call me weird, but I like aging up.  I mean, it's better than the alternative, right?  Since I was going to be working yesterday, I started my "treat yo self" celebration early.  I got my hair highlighted and cut:

Extra blonde for the summer...

I stopped in at Starbucks for my favorite drink - an iced latte - and brought it with me while I got a much-needed pedicure.  I went wild and chose a color other than my standard blue:
OPI's Cajun Shrimp - a bright coral.
It's very different for me but I like it!

Yesterday, after I ran, I opened my present from Jeff - I knew it was something from James Avery, seeing as I'd gone there with him and tried on several different pieces of jewelry, but I didn't know what he ended up choosing...turns out, it was a blue topaz ring!  I love it, and not just because it goes so nicely with my car:
Doesn't everyone coordinate their jewelry with their vehicles?

I worked my usual volunteer shift at the hospital gift shop, and then when I was finished, I stopped at Starbucks and got my annual birthday freebie treat:
Caramel waffle cone frappuccino -  delicious, ridiculously high in calories, but a worthwhile splurge once a year.

We went out to dinner - I wasn't super hungry, but chips and queso, along with a taco from Torchy's sounded great:
There's guacamole under all that queso - YUM.
Really, I ordered it because the ingredients sounded good, but I laughed at my preference - this one is called The Democrat.

Then we went to Cafe Eccell for dessert:
Strawberry tart - split with Jeff, but I swear, I have it in me to eat the entire thing.

All in all, it was a good day to turn 53.

Tomorrow I'll run 5.3 miles...I have to say, clearly I did not think this through when I started running my age.  I may start running my age in minutes vs. miles soon - it's so dang hot in June to be doing this!  And afterward, treats will be had at Blue Baker; according to their monthly schedule, blondie toffee brownies will be on tap - yes, please!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Happy Belated Birthday! Sounds like you have had a awesome week so far. Really like your new hair do. I admire your choice in toe nail polish. Jeff picked out a very pretty ring.

Before I forget congratulations on being picked a winner for your lovely sock colors in the contest over at Mason-Dixon knitting. Hope you get a prize and let us know what it is.

Good luck on your run tomorrow. Have a great weekend.

  3. Wait! You get a free drink at Starbucks on your birthday? Mine is this weekend. I am definitely gonna stop by there.

Unlike you, I am definitely one who bemoans getting older. I guess it's perhaps because I haven't really reached a milestone birthday where I get any benefits. Even when I turned 21 it wasn't a big deal for me.
Happy birthday week! Your hair looks lovely!

    1. They load a free drink on your Starbucks rewards card for your birthday, but you do have to have one (which is free) to get this freebie.

I don't think I get any benefits to being a particular age, other than the "I'll do whatever I want" attitude that came when I turned 50, LOL. ;)

  4. Happy Birthday!! What a wonderful birthday you had. Love the Cajun Spice and the new hair do!! You are looking great for being 53!!

Yeah I would have to rethink the running my age thing if it was me. It would be more like running the seconds of my age. LOL!!

  5. Happy Birthday! It sounds like the perfect day to me. I would have needed extra sour cream as my part of my treat. I have OPI Cajun Shrimp! Now you've planted a seed...matching jewelry to the car. Nice!

    1. Weirdly, sour cream is not on my top 100 list of favorites...I always thought I should have been thinner all these years since I wasn't putting it on my baked potato - ha!

  7. Happy Day After! LOVED your day from beginning to end. Even working your volunteer job on your birthday sounds fun, with treats before and after :)

Love your nail color--I actually have on my list today to get some new nail polish. I'll have to look for that color! And topaz is one of my favorite stones.

I've never done it, but I do think chips and queso might be the best birthday meal I could choose.

    1. I very rarely splurge with queso (chips and salsa, yes) but I really enjoyed eating it guilt-free on my birthday...I think this may have to be added to my once-per-year traditions! :)

  14. What a great birthday full of all your favorite things! Love the hair & nails and the *$ treat-uccino. I think we all should definitely embrace and celebrate every year as a reward for making it around the sun again relatively intact!
