Friday Mishmash

This is from Matthew Inman, aka The Oatmeal - it's part of his series called "if dogs were middle-aged men" and it describes what happens TO A TEE when our doorbell is rung:

Good to know Paco isn't unique.  It gets really noisy around here whenever someone comes to the door.

I changed some setting on my iPhone the other day - I swear, all I was trying to do was to get my pictures uploaded to my desktop.  Somehow, the Cloud got involved, and now I keep getting this message popping up:
This is driving me crazy - I got it, I got it!  Now stop telling me!!

I'm seeing this message all the time.  I've disabled the Cloud with my pictures, but that hasn't helped.  I need a teenager to come over and fix this for me - a couple of taps and it will be done.  Apparently when I do a couple of taps, I open up a can of worms...sigh.

Survivors and caregivers walked the first lap.  Luminaria ceremony was held in memory of and in honor of loved ones.

Last Friday night, we participated in the Relay For Life.  The event was supposed to be held outdoors at a small airport, but because of all the rain we've had, that location was under something like 24 inches of water.  So they moved it to the expo center, which ended up being pretty nice - it was covered, and there were overhead lights, so no need for flashlights once the sun went down.  The only funny part was that when the band took a break and it got quiet, you could hear all of the animals - cows and goats and sheep were penned in the other arena.  At least you couldn't smell them!  We were there for about six hours.  I wore my Garmin because I was curious to see how much I'd end up walking - turns out, it was close to 8 miles!  Who knew walking round and round and round would add up like that?

This was the first time I've done a Relay For Life, and I was surprised to discover that it hit me quite a bit on the emotional level.  Even though it's been a lot of years since my Grandmother died from pancreatic cancer, and even though my Mother is thankfully cancer-free since her ordeal of a few years ago, it was rough, and periodically I was teary-eyed throughout the evening.  Still, we had a good time together, and even managed to take a future-embarrassing picture of Loretta's grandson:
Poor Jayden...he's gonna be mad when he's 13 and sees this picture!

Jeff walked for a while, but then did what he does best:
There was a live band playing, and people were dancing nearby.  Proof he can sleep through anything!

Have a great weekend!

  1. I honestly think Relay for Life is one of the best walks out there. They do such a great job and of course I think we all know someone who has dealt with cancer.

So, here's what I think you should do to fix your iCloud issue. You can do it - just take it 1 step at a time!

Go to iCloud (sign in on your computer) and turn off iCloud storage backup, then sync your phone with iTunes (i.e. sync to your computer), then turn iCloud backup back on.

  2. That cartoon is HILARIOUS.

Hmmm. I'm reading Helen's comment. I have an issue with the cloud too. Its supposed to automatically put pictures I take on my phone onto my computer. It did it for about one week and then it stopped. I can't get it to do it anymore.

That looks like such a nice event. And 8 miles!! Yowza! So could you go over and visit the sheep and goats? You know I would have wanted to do that!

    1. That's what happened to me - I was able to upload my pictures, and then it stopped working, so I tried to fix it. Bah! I will say that Helen's suggestion seems to have stopped the pop up...now I wonder if my pictures will upload? Who knew Helen was really a teenager - she's been catfishing us with that whole "50-something woman" blog, LOL!

    2. Oh, and I stopped and talked to a really pretty (wait...real purdy) white cow when we left. :)

  3. LOVE that you did the relay for life. I've done the one here twice, and it is a very very emotional (albeit uplifting) event. And LOL at the cartoon! So funny. Have a great weekend Shelley

  5. I think those big events are emotional for everyone. When you come together in a united spirit, it is hard not to get emotional.

I love the Oatmeal - especially his one on "is your cat plotting to kill you?" It's spot on Pixie. :D

  7. What a wonderful cause. We have something here called a Sister's Hope which is a 60K walk over 2 days for breast cancer.

Bella is just like Paco. Imagine how the poor man/woman at the door must feel if they would be in the same room together. I think they'd run and never come back with all the barking LOL
