My Blog About Me!

We had a massive clean-out of the garage over the weekend; we'd saved so much stuff and it was getting beyond ridiculous.  Things that I couldn't bear to part with when we moved here in 2000, and have been stored in boxes ever since?  Yep...I could let go now.  Even Jeff got rid of some stuff, and he is worse than me when it comes to hanging onto things.  The garage looks much roomier and we both feel lighter for having let go of so many things.

Books have always been hard for me to part ways with, but not anymore!  I sent just about everything to Goodwill.  I kept just a few of my most sentimental ones, and they are now stored in the house, in my bookcase in the living room (which I also cleared out; I figured if I was bringing some in, then others had to go).  The book boxes were the most fun to go through and take one last look at - here's some of my favorite finds:

I didn't save this book, but I had to take a picture before it went bye bye:
Sure, you knew The Partridge Family was a TV show, but did you know they also were immortalized in books?  See ya, Keith Partridge!
Finally found my original Nurse Nancy book!  I loved this one when I was a child; saved it.
I always thought I looked like the girl on this book - as you can see, in case anyone questioned me, I wrote my name by her face just so they'd KNOW it was me.

The book that made me laugh was My Book About Me:
It was a book that you filled in; I was eight-years-old when I got it.
As you can see, I never liked math...this holds true even today.
Again, a still-to-this-day truism.  But wait - let's take a closer look...
"I haved one.  Now I wish I did."
Have you ever seen anything sadder???  This was after our dog Fluffy went to live on "a farm" because she was chewing up the fence.
Yeah, I was pretty fixated on getting a puppy.  Did that happen?  Nope.  We didn't get another dog until I was in Junior High, I think.  I had the worst childhood EVER!!! ;)
Apparently tuna was not fish when I was eight.  Also, spelling wasn't my strong suit back then.

So later on, my favorite uncle happened to read the book - and I discovered that he made some additions:
Seeing my uncle's additions made me laugh all over again - he was so quick with the humor.
 LOL - it's funny because it's true...
Look - I even got his autograph!  He's famous, dontcha know?!

 Have a great Monday!

    1. Finding funny stuff is probably the ONLY good part about packing to move...

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. I was laughing too, when I read his remarks...I know I've seen them, but it's been so long that they were like new to me!

  3. I hope you kept the book about you! Your uncle's additions made me laugh out loud.

I have been very much feeling weighed down by the stuff in our house. I've already told Mr. Helen and Little Helen that come spring we are getting in the garage and doing a huge cleanup. I also intend to remove some of the things inside. I figure we've lived there 8 years and if I haven't looked at it in 8 years, I probably need to get rid of it!!

    1. I definitely kept that book...it's a classic! :)

Getting rid of STUFF really feels good. It was good stuff, but I wasn't needing, nor using it. Time to let someone else have a crack at it.

  4. I had NO idea there were Partridge Family books! I'd have given all my allowance to read them back in the day. I laughed out loud at your uncle's comment about you getting out of bed at noon :) As a part-time antique dealer, the first thing I thought of when I saw "Nurse Nancy" was 'I wonder how much that's worth?' LOL

    1. Nurse Nancy? Well, it cost .29 originally. I bet it's up to a buck by now. ;)

  5. OMGOSH, I was laughing so hard at this! What a fun uncle! The fish/tuna comment is funny too, especially since you still don't like fish (I think?) Also the blank story page--well, you are pretty darn good at writing stories now! We all enjoy them 3X a week!

Yeah, my excuse for not bringing in the rest of the stuff from the storage shed is that the pantry shelves are not installed yet. But when they get installed, and if I still don't bring it in, its off to the thrift store! I have done a lot of purging over the last year, and for a while, I am enjoying the "spare" look in my house!

  6. Ah ....David Cassidy. I LOVED watching the Partridge Family & was so thrilled to learn that David & I share the same birth date [not the same year!]. Such fun isn't it going through your old books & especially seeing "special annotations" we made when we were young!! I know I marked up a lot of books when I was a kid ....

  7. Such a fun post! I recently started thinning out my closets and book shelves too. I figured I was never going to watch the box series of Friends again ( since it is on tv like a dozen times a day, maybe more), it goes!

    1. Good idea...I could get rid of a lot of my DVDs, except for my Will Ferrell ones. Those STAY. :)

  8. This is such a delightful post!!!! Your Uncle's comments are priceless! So glad you saved Nurse Nancy!!!! But...you let the Partridge Family book go???? HOW!!!??? LOL!!! "Marked for Terror" indeed! When I was little, in my dreams David Cassidy was my brother in law, because I was quite sure I was going to marry Sean Cassidy - and damn, "c'mon get happy" is now going through my mind. Oh no.....

  9. It is so funny to me that kids misspellings make me laugh, but seeing adults misspell on FB makes me want to poke my eye out LOL!

    Love your uncle's additions :D

    1. I'm the same way - found some old school papers that belonged to my kids, and the misspellings cracked me up. God forbid an adult blog or do a FB post like that, though! ;)

  10. That is so sweet Shelley - love a trip down memory lane. Glad you have Paco now too! :D

Thanks for all your support last week - I appreciate it more than you'll ever know. :D

  11. That girl on the cover of "Middle Sister" looks amazingly like you! Wow! Somewhere out there you have a twin who posed for that picture!

  12. Seriously, you didn't save that Partridge Family book?? I'm thinking that should be a collectors item, it doesn't get much campier than that!

And love the glimpse into your childhood--sorry about never getting that puppy! (We got the "farm" story too with a pet, and I totally, totally bought it and am actually grateful that's what they told me. Though with a fence-chewing dog, i'm hoping it was actually the truth?).

  13. OMG how did you stop laughing long enough to take pictures and post this?? So wonderful, and your uncle was hysterical.
