Friday Mishmash

Jeff decided that I needed flowers the other day and brought home these pretty irises for me:
This is the extent of my flower-arranging skills.  Some day I'd like to take a class on how to do it, although the non-artist in me doesn't hold out a lot of hope that I would really be able to replicate anything I was taught.

I got to babysit Davis on Monday - he's 11 months old and cute as ever!  Although we had a new experience - as usual, his mom puts him down for a nap before I come over.  Normally when he wakes up, he's happy to see me.  This time, although he was standing up at the crib rail and smiling at me when I was talking to him, as soon as I lifted him out of the crib, he started to cry - you could see the gears turning in his head as he realized that MAMA WASN'T THERE!  Poor guy!  I distracted him by bringing him outside to his swing, and then things were all better.
He was combat-crawling like a champ, and pulling himself up on furniture and walking around while holding onto things, but still very wobbly.  On Wednesday, Joni sent me a video of Davis walking!  Amazing how fast it clicked for him - now he's on the move for real!

Sit and Knit update:  I'm one of those knitters who likes to have several projects going at the same time - some are things that I have to concentrate on, while others are what I call easy TV knits - I can watch something on TV without having to pay too much attention to a pattern.  So this is a pretty normal sight on the table next to my knitting chair:
Three projects, plus the pink yarn is out, waiting for me to make a baby hat.  Oh, and I have two other projects in a basket behind the table.

The main character in the movie that I was watching (The Giant Mechanical Man, on Netflix) was wearing a really cute knit hat.  I paused the movie when they had a close up of her and tried to figure out the pattern, then I went to my stash, found some yarn that might work, wound it up and started knitting the hat while I watched the movie!  Everyone does this, right?  Not sure if it will turn out, or even fit, but deciphering pictures of knitted hats really appeals to me.

Last week I started knitting washcloths, just for a quick project.  I made three different patterns, using yarn from my stash that went together.  They look really sweet all stacked up:
And equally sweet artfully arranged:
The solid blue one was the most complicated of all the patterns, but none of them took me all that long to finish.  It was a fun diversion.

By the way, while I was photographing the washcloths, Paco was making himself comfortable...this was my view:
Surveying his world (and yes, the grass needs mowing; summer rainstorms make it grow like crazy)
Zoomed in:  Whut, Mom?
Content dog - well, until the mailman dares to drive by!

We have 6 miles on tap for tomorrow, while the full marathon group will be doing 13 miles.  For training!  Can you imagine running a half marathon distance, just because?  I can't, which is probably why I also can't envision myself ever training for a full marathon.  But more power to them, especially in this heat!

Have a great weekend!

  3. Your knitting area looks a lot like my crochet area. I have two to three projects all in arms reach. I also ventured into the washcloth genre this week. Yours look great!

  4. Ahhh, a fellow multi-projecter! Did you finish that pink sweater already?

Eek, your Saturday mileage is getting up there into the "that's too hard" range. Hope for nice weather for you!

Off to check out that movie. Mostly so I can see the knit hat!!

    1. I finally finished the body of the pink sweater - now I just need to pick up the collar, and then the sleeves (which are vexing me just reading the instructions...may have to go visit my favorite yarn store and get some hands-on help).

Six miles is going to be fun! It IS! ;) Weather is dumb, supposed to hit 103 today, which means that it's not going to cool down much overnight for our early start.

  5. I was so happy to see some more cute Paco pics!

Enjoy your run tomorrow. I WILL be fun! I'll be out early to beat the heat as well though our summer has been relatively cool up until now! Nothing in the 100s yet!

    Have a GREAT weekend!!

  6. Paco looks like he's on the serengeti, waiting for gazelles to run by!

  7. Love that you got flowers for no reason! And I love Paco's face.

I haven't babysat in ages, I am not sure how good I would be at it!

Be safe on your run tomorrow. :D

  9. I have a couple of projects cross stitching too. I don't like working on the same thing every time. Since one project is really a lot of work to finish, these all last for years.

Paco looks great! Love that dog.

Hope the weather isn't too bad this morning for your run. Good luck.

  10. Oh and I need to let R. read this post. He might get the hint about the flowers :)

  11. No, I can't imagine running a half-marathon, but good for you! More power to ya! I don't think my hubby has gotten me flowers in 19 years of marriage... Once or twice while we were dating, I think. He's just not a flower guy. Occasionally, I buy them for myself :)
