I forgot to show you my big birthday gift:

A new Camaro!!!  Haha, NOT.  Jeff usually has to rent a car when he travels, and gets whatever "mid-size" is available...this was what he came home with last week.  While it's not quite my style (I'm still longing for a Mini Cooper), I'd certainly take the Camaro if it was free.

Some people play Angry Birds on their phones or tablets, but I get to see the real-life version on a daily basis!  The mockingbirds are nesting and protecting their nests, which seem to be in every tree in the front yard.  They constantly swoop and dive at Kip, but it's funny - he hardly acts like it bothers him.  Of course, Jeff says that's because Kip is probably thinking "I'm just going to eat your babies anyway" but I can't believe my docile, sweet kitty would do that...no, actually, I can.  Dumb cats.
Angry bird...
Paco gets worked up over this, at least...
Kip is just "meh"
...and scene.  Love that Paco is going the wrong direction while chasing the bird. (clicking on the pics will make them easier to see)

I've been making progress on my latest baby blanket:
I have to say, it gets a little hot knitting this, so I tend to work on it for a while, then set it aside for a smaller project.  No worries, though - the baby isn't due for a couple more months and it's simple pattern, so I'm sure I'll get it finished in time.  I kind of wish I'd used larger needles for this...with such a big piece, it would have gone quicker.  Oh well, live and learn.

Here's a couple of scarves that I'm working on - with all of my windmill bag enthusiasm, the scarves haven't gotten the attention that they deserve:
This one is also a challenge because the yarn is fuzzy and the pattern is a bit boring.  I do love how it looks, but if I make something like this again, I might use larger needles and heavier yarn to make it go quicker.  (Hmmm, I'm seeing a trend between repetitive patterns and wishing they would be finished faster!)
This crazy scarf is getting even crazier - see how it's shaping itself?  I guess that's due to the different weights/textures of the yarn.  Definitely a one-of-a-kind scarf, that's for sure!

I'm also working on another windmill bag, and a sweater - and in case you're wondering, my hands are a little achy and I have a tender spot on my index finger...knitting injuries?  Who knew!?!

OK, this is cool...my friends Terry and John happened to be out on their boat at the exact time that the space shuttle replica was being transported to the Johnson Space Center - look at the awesome shot they got:
Now that's not something you see everyday!

Have a great weekend!

  1. That is an amazing shot with the space shuttle! Isn't that the last one that left, on it's way to NYC to the Intrepid? A shuttle not in a museum may be something we never see again.

    Love, love, love the Camaro.

    1. No, this was a replica, from Florida - NYC got the read deal (big controversy over Houston NOT getting it) - but at least with this one, visitors can actually go inside of it.

And the Camaro? So you! :)

  2. Your pets are hours of entertainment lol!

Camaros always make me think of my high school years. All the guys wanted either a Camaro or a Corvette. I actually dated two different guys and rode in each type of car and was under-impressed. Give me a tricked out, luxurious BMW or Jaguar any day :)

    1. Exactly - high school. The really cool guys had louvers on the back windows of their Camaros or Trans Ams!

    1. Hmm, does it make me weird that I'm planning on bringing my knitting with me on vacation? Of course, I'm also planning on knitting with some friends, so there's that...

  5. I love how crafty you're getting with the knitting - it's definitely not something I've got the patience for!

  6. Love that blue scarf. I keep telling myself I'll crochet something similar, but I haven't. What's the yarn in the baby blanket though?

    1. The baby blanket is James C. Brett Marble Chunky - lots of nice colors, and pretty inexpensive for a ginormous skein!

  7. Our dogs are so lazy, the birds don't even leave the bird feeder when they are out. Have a great weekend my friend!!

  8. My heart skipped a beat when I saw that car! On long trips Tony used to rent cars too - a secret - if you reserve online for a mid-size car, and you get there and they don't have one, you get an automatic upgrade - he's gotten some sweet rental cars before!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend Shelley! It's gonna be HOT in your neck of the woods this weekend!

    1. Haha, I'd be more surprised to read "it's gonna be COOL in your neck of the woods" - heat, schmeat. As long as my A/C works, it's all good. :)

At first I thought you really did get a car for your birthday. How cool would that be :D

    1. Getting a car for a birthday (or any other huge event) is just not something that happens in our family...no big red bows, no "December to Remember" - but that's ok. Plenty of other good stuff happens. :)

  10. Love the photos of the animals :-) We have a large enclosure that our cats can go outside into (through a cat door) and the birds and squirrels often tease the cats. One day a bird got too close and my Starla snagged it through the top!

  11. Ah, ha, ha.....LOVE the photo with the animals and your added text. HILARIOUS!!!! Thank you for my morning LOL. You are a knitter extraordinaire. Have a wonderful weekend Shelley!!! And Paco, run TOWARD the bird!!!!!

  12. We had a dog that had a very furry tail and the mocking birds would swoop down and take a tuft of fur from his tail to line thier nests. He learned quickly to keep his tail down when he went outside.

  13. I love all the pics of the animals. I have never seen mockingbirds do that!

And don't you LOVE how the colors are changing on the baby blanket as you go along? I love knitting on the diagonal. Okay. Now I have to find a baby I like well enough to get some of that yummy yarn to knit a baby blanket with!

  14. Love the pic where paco is going the wrong direction and the cat is just walking away...too funny! Great shot of the shuttle too!

  15. Hey I would have taken the car too! :D
Haha, I loved that last picture of the animals. I would really like to be in their heads and hear what they're thinking. I have a cat next door that I am pretty sure hates her life. She looks so sulky ALL the time :D

  16. My heart stopped for a second. NICE car!!! But it's not your Mini. :)

Funny pics of the critters. Dog, cat and bird. Why can't we all just get along?!

  17. You have made my day Shelley! I was feeling down this morning and now i am actually laughing. I absolutely love Paco, Kip and the annoying bird act. They are so funny. We share an interest in knitting but you are better than me. I also enjoyed looking through your other weight loss blogs. I am so glad i came cross your blog this morning. Keep on blogging for us.
