So far I've tried the French Onion (I even topped the soup with a toasted piece of multi-grain bread, complete with some melted Swiss cheese - fancy!) - the collective verdict from my sons and I was that it was ok, but no comparison to Panera's French Onion soup; the Hearty Penne in Chicken Broth, which had a ton of pasta and just a few pieces of carrots and celery; and the Light Beef Pot Roast, which I liked the best so far...but then I am a fan of vegetable beef soups, so that doesn't really surprise me.
Couple of things: I usually stay away from canned soups because of the high sodium content, but these weren't bad and I actually wanted to (but didn't) add some salt to the French Onion soup. At 80 calories/serving, with the entire can being two servings, the calorie counts in these soups are low, so I made a sandwich to go along with the soup when I had it for lunch. By doing this I wasn't ready to devour my arm (or a plateful of whatever I could scrounge up) for a mid-afternoon snack.
Progresso is celebrating the New Year with a "Souper You Debut" contest, which you can enter here. It sounds like fun - three grand prize winners will be awarded a trip for two to New York City from May 21 - 23. The prize includes roundtrip airfare, a two-night stay in a NYC hotel, a full makeover, a $1,000 wardrobe shopping spree and personal consultation at a New York department store! I will definitely be entering - I could use a shopping spree and makeover! When you go to that site (www.progressosoup.com/souperyou) you can also download a $1 off coupon for their soups.
And now for a giveaway - like so many other bloggers, I'm having a giveaway for two cans of soup, the very cool Progresso soup mug, and a digital jump rope. This is open to both U.S. and Canada residents. The prize pack will be fulfilled by Progresso, so if you are chosen as the winner, I'll forward your mailing info onto my contact at Progresso. To enter, just leave me a comment with your favorite kind of soup - doesn't have to be any particular brand, just what you love! Contest ends Thursday night at 10:00 pm CST and winner will be posted on Friday. Good luck!
FCC Disclaimer: Progresso provided me with a case of soup, a mug and a digital jump rope.
Hey Shelly,
ReplyDeleteI too love Progresso soups my favorite so far is the "light" vegetable which I had yesterday at lunch.
We are having freakishly cold weather too here in Orlando it was awful over the weekend but supposed to warm up by Thursday lets hope so.

I have to say that split pea with ham is definitely my favorite especially if it's made with a smoked ham hock!
ReplyDeleteI'm really eyeing that skipping rope, looks like it would be a blast :)
Haven't tried much Progresso, my FAVORITE is Campbell's Select Harvest Light Italian-style Vegetable.
ReplyDeleteI love the Southwest Chicken. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteHarvest Vegetable Soup
ReplyDeleteIs the Progresso Contest open to Canadian citizens too? I didn't think so after reading, so I didn't apply.
Some years ago I got a recipe for Tortilla Soup. It's my all time favorite - I could eat it year 'round!
ReplyDeleteHello, I recently started a WLS blog & wondered if you wouldn't mind if I linked to yours & also if you'd like to mine? BTW: I love your reward system for lbs lost!
Hi Shelley,
ReplyDeleteI guess I didn't realize Progresso made 100 calorie soups. I think that is so cool... what a great low calorie lunch that would be for me.
My favorite soup is between split pea with ham and bean with ham. Love them...especially the homemade ones.
Thanks for allowing your fun give aways!
Have a great day.
Debi
Chili's Chicken Enchilada Soup (which I have a low fat version recipe on my blog for) is my favorite lately!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun gift!!! I love that!
ReplyDeleteSodium content is exactly the reason I don't buy canned soups - but I still love my Campbell's tomato soup every once in a while!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday Shelley!
I love roasted red pepper soup - Pacific has one that is awesome (and available in a lower-sodium version).
ReplyDeleteI will have to give these a try. Sometimes I find that a warm meal fills me up better than a cold one! With such low calories, I can easliy pair this with a salad or sandwich. Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Split Pea w/ham!!My second favorite would have to be homemade Wild Rice Soup mmmmmmmmmmmm!!I eat soup a lot since being in Minnesnowta:P Our high will be 30 tomorrow, that's like a freakin' heat wave lol.
ReplyDeleteDee~
I'm following ww right now and Progresso soups are my best friend for lunch, I often have the whole can (don't need the bread then) for just 2pts for most of them. My fav is the veggie type soups, Italian veg w/meatballs is yummy.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to go get their coupon as I'm always buying some. Oh and I tried the french onion recently too and added the bread and some cheese, problem was I could taste onion all afternoon!
With the winter upon us here in the midwest, I love soup - but my favorite of all time is definitely minestrone soup. Doesn't matter the brand, I seem to like them all. :) Very cool giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love white chicken chili, especially on cold winter days
ReplyDeleteNancy
I love that you get those things to taste.
ReplyDeleteI won't compete for the give away. Mailing the stuff probably costs more than a can of soup
I always get jealous when other blogs get stuff to try, but then I remember the disastrous Pomegranate juice I got sent, and HATED.
ReplyDeleteWe just had Progresso high fiber Minestrone last week and it was GOOD.
I had French Onion at Panera on Friday. It was VERY GOOD.
I love, love, love Progresso's Beef Barley. It is delicious and very filling!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Barb
I would live to try the chicken noodle soup
ReplyDeleteThanks for the honest review of the soups!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big canned soup fan, though every now and then I feel nostalgic for the ol' campbells chicken noodle I grew up with. Even though it's full of salt and sugar and has a microscopic amount of chicken in it.
It's hard to find vegetarian canned soups unless they're a specialty brand, so it's not an option for me most of the time. But soup is such a great food that I need to make more at home!
ReplyDeleteI like the split pea & ham soup! I also use the french onion for a roast in a slow cooker!
ReplyDeleteChicken with Wild Rice has to be my favorite@
ReplyDeleteI love the ones with veggies and pasta. Sometimes the sodium is kinda high - but they are still really, really tasty!
ReplyDeleteI love soup! I like to make my own, mixes and matches, whatever 's on hand :)
ReplyDeleteIf I had to pick one, it would be ham and white bean with LOTS of carrots!
my absolute favorite is the Progresso Light Beef Pot Roast (1 pt ww); my second favorite is the Clam Chowder (any brand).
ReplyDeleteI love chicken noodle, or vegetable noodle soups! Yummy!
ReplyDeletehttp://lifeisgood-mc.blogspot.com/
Thanks, MC
I love french onion soup, corn chowder too.
ReplyDeleteI really need to try these when I am done with my pantry challenge unless I win :)
I like the 0 point vegetable and noodle.
ReplyDeleteYou Go Girl! I love your june '08 picture contrasted with your june'09 picture. And how apt that it's in front of a mode of fun exercise!
ReplyDeleteI love to have the Pot Roast soup for breakfast. It really holds me over until lunch.
ReplyDeleteLoaded baked potato soup! Heaven. Too bad I really don't eat that anymore :(
ReplyDeletejust found your blog today and I love it :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite progresso soup is the classic vegtable (with noodles in it). It is high in sodium, but I don't add salt to things so I can easily work a serving in my daily meal plan.
Black bean soup is my very favorite!!
ReplyDeleteI love the lentil soup!
ReplyDeleteI love the Italian Wedding soup!
