FMM - FO Friday

No, it's not what you think, get your minds out of the gutter.  I'm adding a new, periodic feature to the Friday Mishmash called Finished Object Friday, where I'll post a knitted project that I've finished, when I actually have a finished project.  Now that I've explained that to death, here's my first FO:
A hat that I made for my brother who recently moved to Germany; I called the hat Mütze für Bruder which means - brace yourselves - Cap for Brother.  I know, so clever.  It's made of Icelandic yarn called Léttlopi and was brought back from Iceland as a gift for me when my brother and his wife visited Iceland last year, so I figured it was only right that I knit up that yarn into a gift for him...does that mean I regifted their gift?
The pattern is something I came up with on my own - well, the basic hat pattern is everywhere, but I got a little adventurous and did a bit of fair isle in between the stripes.  Fair isle is a stranded colorwork technique - obviously mine is very simple, but I like how it added some interest to an otherwise plain beanie.

Seeing those pictures reminds me that I haven't shown you my new haircut:
About a month ago I had most of my layers cut out, and ended up with this!  I wasn't sure about it at first, but it's grown on me and I think I'll keep the style.  I can still put it in a pony tail for running and workouts, which is pretty much my number one requirement of a hair style.

Here's a couple of Logan pictures from Saturday's breakfast:
WHAT THE HECK, THIS ISN'T PUMPKIN BREAD!
*WINK*

He was full of funny faces and is talking a lot - we had a good time playing with him, plus it was great to see him feeling so good after that awful ear infection.

Finally, I had to screenshot this - what are the odds these two words would get played, and in the correct order?
Armpits.  I'm easily entertained.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I love your new haircut! I grew out my layers and am sporting the same look. It's easy and versatile.

I play words with friends too! If you ever want to play, my handle is Wendy Joyce.

    1. Thanks - and yes, it's so easier to style than anything I've had before...and yet it looks like I've worked at it.

  2. Great job on the hat for your brother. I really like your new haircut!

Thought I would share that I found my knitting mojo again. I picked up the sticks and string the other day and casted on a baby blanket or blanket since I have no idea who this is for. I enjoy the zen feeling easy knitting gives me. Seeing your haircut reminds me I desperately need one myself. Today is my 22nd anniversary so I doubt the haircut will get done today.

    Have a great weekend.

    1. Ahh, that's great about your knitting! I love a good zen knitting project - that's why I like to have something simple on my needles even if I'm also working on a harder project...sometimes you just need to knit without having to think.

      Happy Anniversary!

  3. When I get my hair cut I always say ‘my only non negotiable requirement is that my hair must be ‘ponytail-able’ for workouts!

    1. LOL. A while back mine was so short that I had to put it in pigtails for running.

  4. Every time I get my hair trimmed, the stylist tries to talk me into layers. I always have to explain that my hair needs to be able to go into a ponytail or braid with no hair popping out, because I find that very annoying when I am running! So I understand the workout requirements for your hairstyle :) It looks great!

    1. I suspect we runners frustrate a lot of hair stylists, LOL!

  5. I love the cut! After years of straight hair cuts, I just put layers in! Something new for me. And when I "fix my hair", that means I put it in a pony tail (like today, its Friday). That's about all I can do with hair.

    1. How funny, we went the opposite. I like to curl my hair - no, I like it when my hair is curled, but my arms get tired if I do it myself, so this straighter style is good for me.

  6. I love the hat! And you're right, the fair isle adds a bit of pop to the hat. I do love your new haircut--it frames your face so well. And Logan, so glad to see he's over that ear infection!

    1. Thanks! I'm saving some more fair isle patterns for the next time I'm feeling adventurous. Baby steps, haha.

  7. Love the new haircut! Mine is at a length that is too short for a pony tail and I have toyed with the idea of just chopping it all off. It would be so much easier for running and swimming, but when I compare how much of my day/week is spent working out compared to the rest of my life, I talk myself right out of it! Love the hat, and if it is considered re-gifting, it's the best kind of re-gifting!

    1. It's not only having the hair work for you for exercise, but for me, it's also how often I have to wash and dry it BECAUSE I'm working out so often. That's when I think having Jamie Lee Curtis-short hair would come in handy...but I think that style would age me, and I'm not down for that!

  8. I love the haircut!
That is so cool that you made that hat out of the yarn your brother got you!

I use to play word with friends but when I started playing it with my husband it became "letters with enemies" because my husband would make such stupid words and it would make me mad...haha

  9. Love the hat and that hair cut looks great on you. My hair is long (down to my waist) so a pony tail is a common thing. Sometimes I think about cutting it, but then I remember that I cry every time I do lol.

    1. Wow, that is long hair! It's good to stay true to what makes you happy - I'm sure we've all shed tears over a haircut, and who wants to do that again?!

  10. I love your hair like that...so much better.

I wish I did not have curly frizzy hair.

That hat is amazing. I love your knitting projects.

  11. Your new do looks amazing! And I love Logan's shirt! I need that in my size.

The hat turned out fab and I love the name ;) Your comment about "regifting" reminded me of this advice column a friend sent me - https://slate.com/human-interest/2018/11/dear-prudence-violent-brother-host.html. Scroll down to the second question re: knitting. Can you believe that?! GAWD. People do not understand how much time these projects take!

    1. It's actually a bib...which to be honest, I could use in an adult size, LOL!

Holy hell on that knitting issue - that MIL sounds awful in many ways. It's really disappointing when you knit something specifically for someone and it isn't appreciated. I have become very selective with who I knit for...but those who do receive something from me are always very sweet about it.

  12. I love your hair!! I got mine cut recently too and it looks a lot like yours now - I still need to grow my bangs out but it is SO MUCH EASIER to deal with! That haircut really complements your features - very flattering!!
