WWU - Run for Icee! Er, Drive for Icee! Er, Drive for Frozen Smoothie!

Well, you plan for one thing, pivot to another, and end up going a third direction sometimes.  On Saturday the Renegades had our annual Run for Icee, where we set our route to end at the nice Stripes gas station near the clubhouse.  Everyone carries a few dollars on their run and afterward, we get refreshing Icees - yes at 7:30 am, and maybe that's why the rest of the customers in the store were looking at us like we were weirdos, getting frozen drinks while they were all getting breakfast tacos and coffee, but hey, that's how the Renegades roll!

I still couldn't run on Saturday, but I had a great time hanging out with Jimmymeow - we drove to McDonald's for coffee, then drove to Stripes and chatted while we watched for everyone to come in.  Once the marathoners arrived (they had 7 hot and humid miles on tap), we all went inside only to discover that the Coke Icee machine wasn't running!  That is the best flavor, dang it!  Karen investigated the frozen smoothies that you mix up in a machine right next to the Icee machines, and made one - she said it tasted good so the rest of us followed suit.  I picked a coconut/pineapple smoothie and had a few spoonfuls, but Jeff ate most of it - after all, he ran 7 miles.  The cutest thing was seeing Logan taste his first Icee:
Open WIDE for the straw!
Cold.  Cold cold cold!
Yum!  I like this!
It's good to be a Renegade!
Group shot - missing a few Renegades, but we'll probably do this again, and maybe next time I'll get to run it!

My workouts with Brad and his crew are going well, but I've figured out that I need to slow down and work on my form because I had a heck of a backache for several days after Thursday's workout, and I'm pretty sure it's because I was a little off in how I did a couple of the exercises.  I'm starting my fourth week and I have to say, I do feel a little stronger, which is one of my goals, along with becoming a better, stronger runner.  That one is on hold for a little while longer, but hey - feeling results after just a few weeks is pretty good in my book!

  1. Logan's face! Brain freeze! I've never heard of a Coke icee. Interesting.

I know when I'm in a group training I'm tempted to try to keep up with everyone else, including those who are in better shape than me. I get it that you need to slow down and pay attention to form. Thing is, if you do that, you'll be as fast as them in no time and won't hurt yourself. It's nice to feel that you're getting results, isn't it?

    1. The Coke Icee is lightly fizzy, lightly sweet, and really perfectly cold on a hot day. Highly recommend. :)

Yesterday I was doing those heavy ropes, going 1,1, 2,2 in a rhythm, trying to make it through the entire minute and doing decently well. We switched sides and at one point I looked up to see another woman who has been going there for a long time just slamming them beast-mode - I told her after that I was impressed and she laughed - said I just didn't see how many breaks she had to take during that set. It's good that we all can do what works for us individually there - no pressure.

  2. I would imagine that a Coke Icee tastes great after a run in the Texas heat! Too bad they were out.

    1. It does! I'm impressed at our restraint, that we don't stop for one after every summer run.

  3. Coke Icee. The best ever. Have you ever noticed how much an Icee is at the Movies?!?

    1. Yes I have, and I'm such a cheapo that I cannot buy ANY food or drink at the local movie theater because I refuse to pay more in snacks than I did for a ticket. I'm not above sneaking in a dollar box of movie theater candy bought earlier at Target, though. #criminal ;)

  4. I'm so surprised that Helen has never heard of a Coke Icee. I think they've been around for 40 years! But maybe only out here in the hot hot west. That's a nice group picture of you all. Logan sure is an adventurous eater and good natured about it all!

    1. We need to introduce Helen to the wonderful world of a Coke Icee, right?

  5. Yay for feeling stronger! Definitely slow down and focus on your form! That is one of my mantras I repeat A LOT in class - FOCUS ON FORM NOT PACE.

What a fun meet up with the Renegades!

    1. I was doing push ups on the TRX and was focusing on breathing in and out with each movement and it felt so much better. I think I also hold my breath a lot while doing certain movements - so yes, it's all form at this point.
