WWU - Just Chugging Along...

It's nice to be at this point right now - no stress over any long distance races upcoming, no stress over missing a run and possibly messing up my training - I'm simply getting out and running, and it feels great!  Last week I ran on both Tuesday and Thursday mornings; only two miles, but we're starting to drop some of the walking intervals and work toward running a few miles without stopping.  At some point I'd love to run an entire 5K again - I haven't done that in a few years, and I'm excited to work toward that goal.

We played rain chicken on Saturday's run and lost, but we still ended up with three miles.  I'd hoped to get in five miles, but when the big raindrops started falling at the 1.5 mile mark, we hedged our bets and turned around, just in case it became a deluge.  Luckily that didn't happen, but Diane and I weren't feeling a rain run, especially since the weather was a feels like temperature of 42 degrees.

Afterward, at Blue Baker, the cinnamon rolls looked especially delicious:
Funny story, I started to pull Brian's cinnamon roll toward mine to take this picture, when he stopped me cold - he wasn't sure what was happening and was very protective of his treat!

Then Jimmymeow busted me on how I split our cinnamon roll - look, I can't help it if the gooey center part happened to fall onto my plate, and Jeff wouldn't have even noticed had it not been for Jimmy oh-so-helpfully pointing it out:
Looks fine to me...
I really don't see a problem here, Jeff.
YOU are on my list, Jimmy!

Don't feel too sorry for Jeff, he had plenty of extra ciabatta bread and brownie edges.  My only indulgence was half of a cinnamon roll.  Can you see my imaginary halo from here?  Hah!

More running is on tap this week, of course.  Jeff, Diane, and I ran on Monday morning, and as we were going down a street in our neighborhood, a car drove toward us, stopping as we got close.  The driver rolled down his window and asked if we'd seen anyone else out running or walking; he was looking for his brother, who hadn't shown up for work.  Now, it was just after 6:00 am, and still dark, so I was a little leery of this guy, even with the three of us there.  Diane was friendlier to him than I would have been, getting his phone number in case we saw the brother, while Jeff and I hung back.  I mean, he probably was telling the truth, but still.  It doesn't hurt to be extra cautious, especially when no one else is out and about.  And it's especially interesting that Diane was the friendly one this time, considering the last time someone had charged at us while we were running (he was actually chasing his dog who had taken off toward us), she went into self-defense 101 mode right away.  You never know what you're going to get with her!

  1. As I try to channel my inner anxiety about my upcoming trip to Birmingham and half marathon this weekend, I ask myself WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF?! LOL Glad to hear you are enjoying just running!

I wonder if the guy found his brother?

    1. Oh man, I hope your anxiety calms down - I hate that feeling. Hope once you get there you'll be cool as a cucumber and can really enjoy the race.

  2. I've actually been known to say to Mr. Helen, "Look I'm going to split this but I'm taking this part so..." I say if Jeff wants the ooey gooey center for himself, he needs to buy his own whole cinnamon roll. The end! LOL!

  3. I’m glad that you do have a running goal (running a 5k without walking intervals). It will keep you motivated!)

  4. That's a good goal to have for the 5K! Sometimes concentrating on smaller distances is even fulfilling!

I wonder if that brother was found or what the deal was there?

  5. I have a weakness for cinnamon rolls. As a child, my piano teacher used to make the best ones and gave me the recipe. They never turned out right! 5ks are tough stuff. I think that is a great goal!

    1. Slightly undercooked cinnamon rolls are my favorite. Of course, kinda rethinking that after our food poisoning incident...

  7. Sharing food can be so hard LOL. The person that cuts gets the best part, IMHO.

  8. OMG I am dying about the cinnamon roll split! HA HA HA! Damn that Jimmy, pointing it out, not cool!

Ugh, I do NOT like it when cars approach me when I am running! It makes me be on the defense. I am glad you were in a group. And I hope that guy DID find his brother.

Yay for the running a whole 5K goal!!!!!

    1. If there was a brother, I hope he was found. But I'm still not entirely sure about his existence...suspicious person that I am.
