WWU - Happy Running!

We had such a nice time both with our run and afterward on Saturday!  I like our little band of Renegades so much.  We have a good blend of people and it's always great to spend time with everyone.  This was our last week of the off season, so everyone just did their own thing when it came to routes and distance.

Diane and I, along with Cary's mother Cindy, who wanted to try running, set out to run the new road and hopefully get a picture of the house with four garages.  It was still pretty dark on our first pass, but we did an out-and-back and dawn was breaking as we made our turnaround, so Diane was able to take this picture:
This house has two full-sized garages on each side, and they don't meet in the middle - they are completely separate from each other.

It is interesting to watch these large house go up - lifestyles of the rich, if not famous, right here in our town.  Of course now I'm curious as to how much driveway this kind of garage layout will require.  I will say, new home construction makes for a nice diversion while we are running all the miles, so you'll probably be hearing more about these houses in future posts.

But back to the actual run.  Cindy has been exercising at a gym, and walks her dog, but running is a different feel when you're starting out.  That said, she did great!  Kept up with us as we ran intervals, and I daresay she liked it.  I put on my former USAFit organizer hat for a moment and had her turn back partway through the run, as Diane and I were planning on running farther than Cindy should be considering it was her first run outdoors.  I think she ended up running close to 3.5 miles which was a little more than I'd recommend to a running newbie, so hopefully she wasn't too sore afterward.

Diane and I met up with Loretta at the intersection as we came close to the end of our run - our group isn't big, but it's nice that we cross paths with each other along the way.  We were close to finishing our run, which turned out to be about 4.7 miles, when Diane mentioned that she was going to run on and get to an even 5 miles, and you know, I seriously was going to stop at 4.7, but eventually my brain caught up to my legs and I ended up running with her to hit 5 miles, too.  I hadn't run 5 miles in over three months; it has been really nice to ease up on the mileage during the worst of our heat and humidity for a change, and I don't regret doing that at all.

The sunrise Saturday morning was so pretty!

After everyone came in, we hung out with our little Renegade babies:
Logan, who was stretching out after his morning walk in the stroller...
And Mason, who rode along with his mama CC on her 7 mile run!

We all went to Blue Baker and waited for Jeff and Julia to show up - they ran the Hispanic Forum's Run for Education 5K and Jeff placed second in his age group so they had to wait around for the award ceremony:
He moved up in age groups with his latest birthday, which helps in these smaller races.

He was pleased to win a medal especially as it was hot and sunny by the time this race started (which is why the rest of us didn't run it again this year), and walked into Blue Baker wearing his medal like a champion, LOL.

This week is more running, more walking, and come Saturday, we officially start training for the Houston half marathon in January!  Yikes, that sure rolled around fast.

  1. Oh my gosh that sunrise photo is gorgeous! But I have to admit with that ball of fire sun it sure does look like it was going to be a hot day. This morning as I slogged through crazy heat and humidity (for us in September) I was thinking about how much I admire you Texas runners who rarely get a break from it. I even wondered what would happen to my pace if I had to deal with that all the time.

I'm looking forward to following along with your Houston half training. Maybe it will motivate me to run further than 3-4 miles haha.

    1. I think we get so beat down by continually running hot and humid weather that we start to feel like this is all running ever will be...until we get that first magical cold day, ahhh. Not happening soon for us, unfortunately. But I really am so glad we didn't push the miles this summer like we have in the past.

  2. I see a lot of those big houses going up around here too--more so on my bike rides than runs. It's crazy to think that so many people have that kind of cash, isn't it?

    1. It is - I always wonder what they do for a living, because we have a few family practice doctors living in our neighborhood. Maybe it's just how they choose to spend their money, but yowza. The property taxes alone would kill me on a big house like that!

  3. Super fun post--to see all the fun stuff that goes on besides the running! Its so nice that you've got a group of real friends that enjoys each other's company as well as the running.

  4. It's funny how people choose to spend their money. A big house just isn't on my wish list LOL.

You little renegades are adorable. And building healthy habits early.

    1. I like a nice house, but I also like not being house-poor. Been there, done that (when we lived in southern California).

The Renegade babies are cute, I agree. :)

  5. Woohoo congrats to Jeff!
Is the house with the 4 garages the one house you talked about in one of your other posts? Perhaps the house you thought was a multi family house? awww the renegade babies!

    1. Yes, this is one of the houses I talked about last week, but this one isn't the multi-family house, at least not in the layout that we could see. Maybe they have his and hers golf carts for the second garage? Or maybe they collect cars??

  7. I wonder if this is one house or something like a duplex with the garages positioned that way? It looks interesting at any rate LOL
