A Little Housekeeping

In all the excitement of answering the AMA questions for Friday, I forgot to announce the winners of the Utah Valley Marathon race!  Sorry about that.  The winners are:

Cody Garrett
and
ooc2008

Congratulations!  Please email me (40somethingsjourney@gmail.com) and I'll get you your free entry code.  If anyone would still like to run this race, I have a 15% off discount code for you - use "sb15" for that.

********************

I've been blogging for almost 9 years now, and sometimes I just don't have a lot to say, or sometimes I am busy and don't have time to write a post, or sometimes we go on vacation and boy howdy, is that ever a lot of work, getting posts written and scheduled on top of packing and getting the pets taken care of.

All things considered, I've been pretty consistent with keeping up with my M/W/F schedule.  I like to write, I like to blog, and I like the interaction that comes from you guys via comments and emails.  But I don't like the self-imposed pressure to come up with my Monday posts.  Let's face it, the Wednesday posts are easy as long as I've been exercising, and the Friday posts can be anything as long as I put in a picture of Paco the Wonder Dog, LOL.
Yep, he's always ready for a quick pose...I've trained him well.

So, in the interest of avoiding burnout along with avoiding posting anything more inane than I already do, I'm going to let myself off the hook if I don't really have anything good to say on Mondays, which means that you may come here on a Monday and not see anything new - hopefully that won't happen too often, but this is where I'm at right now.  Thanks in advance for understanding.

That said, if you do have anything you'd like to see me write about, please let me know either in the comments or via an email.  I'm definitely open to suggestions.

  1. I'm with you on not always having a lot to say. I'm open for a topic on Friday...

    1. How about your job? I'd love to know more about why you chose the P.A. route and what you do on a daily basis.

  2. I don't mind the chit chat posts. Some ideas... what I'm reading, what I watch on tv, what's in my cart (or pantry, or kitchen), my 5 favorite places in my town. You've probably done those before, but never helps for an update.

    2. Thanks for the suggestions, Kim - and it's good to know the chit chat posts go over well for you. :)

  3. Well you know I get the whole struggling to post thing. I went from daily to a couple times a week and now I'm lucky to write once a week. I'm fine with that though since I never really blogged to attract readers anyway, even though it seems I do have a few who hang in there.

Is that a recent photo of Paco and plants? The plants are so green! And they're outside!

    1. Yep, that picture of Paco was taken on Friday. We are very green here but I'm still holding out on buying anything that might freeze, just in case we get one last blast of winter...it's a long shot at this point, but it has happened in the past.

  4. That's the best part about having a blog, it's up to YOU when you want to write - no worries, we'll still be here Wednesday's and Friday's! Although I have to admit, I'll be on the train (like right now) and think "oh, it's Monday - let me see what Shelley is up to!"

    1. I know Debby relies on my blog to know what day it is, LOL!

  5. Well you know how I feel about this - I'd much rather write when I have something to say than stick to a schedule. I view blogging as a fun hobby, so I don't ever want to pressure myself into keeping it up or writing forced posts. I'll read whatever you have to say whenever you post it :) I'd also follow nothing but Paco pictures.

    1. Your recent post was helpful for me in making this decision on relaxing about always having a Monday post. :)

Paco is a good blog dog.

  6. Well, you know I get the less posting thing. Either I have nothing to say, or I have a lot to say but don't want to take the time to sit down and write it! If you wanted to keep posting on Monday, bringing back something from your archives would be great fun. Haha, something I have never thought about doing for my blog :)

  7. Blogging is a lot of work for sure, it's not only writing th post, but responding, and making comments on others. For those of us who do it for pleasure it should never feel like a chore. I understand how we all get caught up in our "schedule" and then feel that we have to stick with it. The beauty is that you can write when ever you feel like it. Even if you don't have anything to interesting to write about but you want to pop on the blog for just a quick hello, do it. Your loyal readers will still stop by no matter what you have to say. I understand not wanting to post every Monday (I get that cus lots of times I get caught up on the weekends and don't have a post ready), but if you are at a loss for topics, try maybe a weekend wrap up, or weekend foods, or a weekly wrap of your workouts, etc.

  8. Oh PS: I wanted to say that I appreciate that you visit our blog on Sunday for the weekly wrap even though that is your day off from blogging! :) Your comments make me smile.

  10. It's your blog...blog when you want!!!

In lieu of words a blog post filled with pictures of the animals would work too...just saying! :-)

  11. I get it! Sometimes it's hard to think about what to write about. It shouldn't feel pushed. You amaze me that you can do MWF anyway. I can barely get one day a week in mine :)

  12. I get it. I'm posting less now because I am so busy and what I'm busy with probably would be totally boring to read about LOL! I have never scheduled posts (other than my Friday What's Blooming) or prewritten them. It would be awesome to be that organized!

  13. As someone who comes and goes in the blogging world (and is now down to 3-4 posts a MONTH not a week) I've always found your consistency amazing! Especially since your posts are so fun and there's so much of interest in them.

So obviously you get a total pass from me! It's far more important that you keep it fun for YOU so you stay blogging for the long haul.

I totally understand that self imposed pressure, and it's always interesting for me to hear other bloggers talk about it--partly because it exposes how it is really is SELF imposed. No one on the reading end feels any sense of entitlement to a bloggers freely offered prose! At least I don't when I'm a reader. Yet we who write often feel its some sort of unspoken obligation. So thanks for this! :)

  14. I don't mind, it's your blog you write as often as you want to. Although a monday post every week about the fur babies ... wouldn't mind that.

I don't miss blogging at all, part of it is because we have our little group on FB and I have my own page about my hikes on FB. It's easier for me to keep up with that than blogging.

    Great photo of Paco.
