WWU - Glad I Am Not 59 Just Yet!

Jeff ran his age on Saturday - 5.9 miles!  I ran half his age.  It was HOT.  I was really glad that I'm not 59, or even near it...and I already have plans to switch over to running my age in minutes in a couple more years, which sounds pretty reasonable considering my June birthday.  But getting back to Jeff - he did really well with his run.  I don't know if my threat of driving him to the emergency room and just pushing him out the door and going on to breakfast was enough to make him slow down a little bit (this is what 32 years of marriage will do to a person), but he kept to a slower pace than normal, and he came in looking good, so it was a win on all accounts.
I mapped out his run so that he would hit 5.9 miles at the Stripes convenience store, where (conveniently!) he could get an Icee as a reward and to start his cool down.

Diane and I had our last run together for a while - she's gone to cooler climates for the next month to visit family.  I'm totally jealous of how nice her runs are going to be; I'm sure she'll be feeling sorry for all of us left behind to deal with the Texas summer weather.  It was fun to run with her this last month and I really appreciated how she let me do what I needed in order to work on my running without intervals.  Like, at mile 2.25 on Saturday:  we were facing a hill and I just needed a break.  We walked up the hill, which ended up being a quarter mile, and then I felt like I had a second wind and we ran the rest of the way to hit 3 miles.  I could have struggled up that hill, but the short walk made all the difference in the world!

The gang, minus Jimmymeow, who'd gotten up to answer a phone call.

After everyone came in, we went to First Watch, which is a new breakfast/lunch restaurant in our town.  We were so excited to have a nice breakfast place as another option - our town is sorely lacking in breakfast joints - and we were all pretty pleased with our food.  You can eat healthy, or you can indulge; it's nice to have options.  Plus, you get some "dressed field greens" with a lot of the meals, which is pretty awesome...having salad with your breakfast automatically makes it healthy, right?
I ordered the Bacado omelet, which yes, I chose because of the name (bacon, avocado and Monterey Jack cheese inside).  I ate about half, plus I had some of Diane's lemon ricotta pancakes, and a bit of Brian's potatoes, which were both excellent.  Love that our group plays "pass the plate" with our meals!
Jeff had Eggs Benedict Florentine, the rest of my omelet, and some of Diane's pancakes.  Oh and he wisely ordered a side of toast, which was really delicious; mulitgrain bread, fresh strawberry jam, butter...you can't go wrong with that.

Monday I walked a 5K with Jenny; even starting at 7:15 am, the sun was out and we were baking by the time we finished.  Yesterday I ran with Cary, and despite it being 79 damn degrees at 6:00 in the morning, the run went pretty well, which is about all I can hope for this time of year.  I'll run with Jeff tomorrow; I haven't actually run with him in about a month, so it will be interesting to see how I do, now that I'm not running intervals, with him...each running buddy makes for a different run in both feel and flow.

  1. Oh my, all the breakfast plates look so good! Here in the Netherlands it's not so common to go out for breakfast and there aren't many restaurants here that serve breakfast for that reason. But I found out this week that there is a breakfast/lunch restaurant in the next town that serves American breakfasts. Am planning to visit it one day and after that you can tell me if it looked like an American breakfast.

You did great on your workouts. Personally I think it's good to have different running buddies because everyone is different. It keeps your runs challenging.

    1. It sure does - and what's also neat with our group is that if you want to push it, there's someone who's faster, or if you need to take it easier, there's someone who'll be there for you.

  3. OK, I'm looking at that chalkboard and while I literally never order hash, I think I would order that one as smoked brisket is one of my favorites. All that food sounds fresh and delicious!

As the humidity and dew point has built up this week, I've felt your running pain. I think the hardest thing for me is cooling down so I can actually get dressed for work lol! Good job ending Jeff's run at an icee.

I hope you guys have a good run tomorrow and remind Jeff that the faster runner has to accommodate the slower runner. Besides it's hot in TX!

    1. I know, that smoked brisket hash sounds good and is on my "need to try" list for sure!

Sorry you are getting a taste of our wicked humidity for your running...it's just gross. I have the same issue in getting dressed for my volunteer job on Thursdays; it's pretty icky to be putting on clean clothes and instantly sweating in them.

  4. Did you know that the Director of the Boston Marathon runs his age in actual miles each year? He is well into his 50's too. I hope his birthday isn't in the summer months..lol

    1. I have heard that, and I cannot fathom running 50+ miles in a single day. Or week, for that matter, LOL!

  5. That Sarasota half marathon I ran in March is sponsored by First Watch! I thought at first it was a bank--the name doesn't make me think food. The omelet sounds and looks yum!

  6. I like the idea of running your age in seconds. Even I could do that, and I don't run!

  7. Wow, that breakfast place does sound tasty! And I'm with you and Helen on trying that brisket hash!

Your running is going so great this year. You have actually challenged me to get out and take a walk in the morning and "get it over with" for the day (plus its wickedly hot here later in the day, no humidity though.)

  8. That's my favorite thing to get at breakfast - Texas toast with fresh butter and grape jelly - I could just eat that and be happy. But I've been known to get corned beef hash too! :D

Great job on the run Jeff!

    1. Did you know that toast is becoming the next big food craze? I think I read that there's a toast restaurant in San Francisco. Come into my kitchen, I'll make you toast and it won't cost you a thing! ;)

  9. OK, am I the only one giggling over your comment about pushing Jeff out the door at the emergency room?

  10. We've been so humid lately. It made me think of you and how I couldn't stand having it so humid all the time!

I love breakfast places. We have a fair number around here to choose from that aren't even chains, which is really nice. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day!

    1. With as popular as breakfast is, it's been really strange that our town has not jumped on the bandwagon. Hopefully this is the start of something...

  11. As I've said before. Love your friends!

Yes, every run with a different person is very different. You are lucky to have so many people to run with esp. your hubby.

Not jealous of your heat, though.

Jimmymeow?! I need to hear the story behind THAT name! Your group looks so fun!!!

    1. That name came from our Texadega Nights trip - he was using a new app and that was his suggested username - actually, it was Jimmymeow4 (because Jimmymeow 1-3 were taken??). Anyway, we will never let him forget it, LOL.

    2. LOL! Awesome! Don't let it die!
