Friday Mishmash

I was so wrapped up in writing my race recaps that I forgot to show you a few other pictures from last weekend!  At the expo, I was able to add a couple of states to my running magnet collection:
Most of the states that I've run in - I still need Hawaii, though.

And here's the view from the 24th floor outdoor balcony of the Hilton:
The Toyota Center is right next door, and the logo is lit up in red at night - looked cool, but of course I didn't get a picture of it.  Weirdly, neither Jeff nor I realized that this was so close - the Houston Rockets (basketball) play there, and you could win tickets for their game on Friday night at the expo...but we had our own game to play with our Renegades!

Near the same area where we found the cool "Houston" graffiti wall, we also came across a Simpsons graffiti wall - you know I love The Simpsons, so I had to get a picture:
I especially like the Principal Skinner graffiti tag by El Barto...

My friend Andi went to Ikea after we were finished on Sunday, and very nicely offered to pick up the chair that I've been wanting for my office - it's too big to fit in Jeff's car (I tried - bought the chair and had to return it about 5 minutes later when we couldn't finagle it into the car), but she has a van, so now my office is stylin':
I took the sweet quilt that Debby made me a few years ago off of my wall and draped it on the chair, thinking it needed a little bit of color, and was pleasantly surprised to realize that the black accents in the fabric worked perfectly with the black color of the chair and the whole set up just popped!  Love it when things work out like that.

Speaking of things working out, last week at the hospital gift shop, our boss asked Rosalie and I to make up a display with some new handmade Valentine's Day themed jewelry.  It was a little overwhelming at first, because we had to make it fit using whatever jewelry stands were in storage, plus we still had to display the watches and other jewelry, but we were really happy with how it turned out:
I love getting to be creative at my volunteer job!

And now, I have to apologize to Ikea.  Remember when I bought that set of drawers with a filing drawer?  And remember when I showed you how the file folders wouldn't fit into the drawer?  Well, I ended up setting up my new files and was just going to have them sit in the drawer all wonky-like, but the more I looked at the drawer, and the two metal rods that came with it, I realized that they were supposed to go in the plastic rails...only, I couldn't fit them in there for love nor money.  Neither could Jeff, until he got some funky awl-like thing from his toolbox and made the holes in the rails bigger - and now, I have a file drawer the way it is meant to be:
In my defense, the holes on the plastic rails are much smaller in diameter than the metal rods - in fact, one of the rods is slightly bent from how much we had to force it in to fit.  Still, I was wrorrr...wrorrr...WRONG (see Fonzie if this doesn't sound familiar to you).   But I'm happy it worked out and I have a proper file drawer now.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I like all your pictures!Cool sky line of Houston, and I love your Valentines display of jewelry. Isn't it funny how we all collect magnets for our refrigerators? They all have themes too.

So are you still resting from last weekend or back at it?

Supposed to be cold here this weekend. I think I will be hungered down with some knitting not sure what but it is finally time to start some new things!

    Have a great weekend!

  2. I love your fun running magnets! Are you collecting states where you've run or only states where you've raced?

I need you to come spend a couple weeks with me and help me decorate. 10 years in July I'll be in this house and still have very little on the walls because I can't ever figure out what I want!

    1. States where I've run (although we invented our Panqueque 5K in Santa Fe, that wasn't a real race). Except for NM, I have raced in all of those states...

I would love to help you decorate! My favorite thing is using what you have (because usually that's what you love) and making it all come together.

    1. From a guy selling them at the expo - he had tons of magnets and stickers. Magnets were only $3 there, but I see that BaySixUSA.com has them, although of course they're more expensive (and no Hawaii, boo!).

  6. Yay for the file drawer hack! I love the Simpsons. Mostly the older shows. I don't watch it so much anymore. John and I quote from the show a lot. Seems like there is a line from that show for pretty much any situation!

    1. I know, just about every funny line I say is from The Simpsons!

  7. That's funny what Lori said about the Simpsons. I never watched it, but I feel the same way about Seinfeld--a line for any situation!

That's funny about the Toyota Center, because across the street from the hotel in Anaheim we are going to is the Honda Center. I guess the car companies are doing okay financially?

Love the jewelry display, especially since you get to do something fun and meaningful at your volunteer job. And love the chair of course, and that you figured out how to use the file drawer.

p.s. why is there a mermaid on the BCS Marathon poster??

    1. Oh yeah, Seinfeld is another quote-worthy show, for sure!

That's a mile marker from the 2013 BCS race - the local high school art students make them, and then after the race they are auctioned off (the markers, not the students...that would be weird) for charity. I love mermaids, so I was happy to win this one. :)

  8. I love the chair and the quilt on it, but not sure I'd even have the decorating sense to do that!

    Have a great weekend!

  9. I wish I would have gotten magnets for all my races! That's a great idea. I'm going to make copies of the ones I already have and put them on my desk at work!

  11. Lovely chair and the quilt goes perfectly with it!

And you did a great job at the hospital store.

I have sent you a package last Friday by mail. Can you let me know when you received it? I didn't use a track and trace because of the shipping costs and it would be disappointing if you didn't receive it.
