Friday Mishmash

I don't really pay much attention to my blog stats (and woe be it to any potential advertisers who ask me what they are), but over the weekend when I logged on to write my post, I noticed that I was nearing a milestone in pageviews:
999,999 page views - only took six and a half years!

And then, boom:
1,000,000 pageviews!

Anyway, I was impressed for a hot minute.

I have some - well, we used to just call them old, but now they are vintage - Christmas ornaments, and I wanted to display them prominently this year.  Cue a little browsing on Pinterest for inspiration, a round up of both glass and crystal vases and bowls, and I had a pretty new display for my mantle that didn't cost me a thing:
Welllll, it didn't cost me a thing until I decided it needed some tiny lights.  But other than that, I already had everything...I just never put it together like this.  The vintage ornaments are in the large glass urn in the center, except for my old Snoopy ornament, which is displayed by itself.

The Santas that normally adorn the mantle are in my entry:
I'm glad I changed things up, as it feels like I'm seeing everything with a new appreciation.  BTW, my mom made most of the Santas in this picture.

The official Turkey Trot race pictures came in a couple of days ago:
Starting off - don't we look happy and optimistic?
A hill right at the beginning...at least this means we'll have a downhill finish!
Finished - love the synchronized Garmin shut-off.
Exhilarated and exhausted - I pushed it toward the end!

I've been a bit discombobulated this week - trying to get a lot of things done, but not really finishing any one thing...I keep flitting from one thing to another.  It's like my brain won't settle down and let me concentrate on something for very long before...SQUIRREL!!  I know that's a joke about dogs, but it's also a family joke about my attention span.  As an example, I give you my current knitting projects:
Making good progress on four of 'em...finishing none.

With that, I'll wish you a happy weekend.  I have stuff to do!

  1. Very pretty and creative Christmas decorations! I like how your pictures turned out from your race. I so get having the "squirrel" attention span. I haven't been able to concentrate on my knitting lately at all do to a serious family health crisis. We almost lost my step month the Thursday before Thanksgiving and her recovery has been rocky they are in AL and I am down here in Fl always waiting for the phone to ring right now she seems to be on the upswing so maybe things will settle down and I can concentrate on my own life again. Have a great weekend.

    1. I'm sorry to hear about your step mom...I hope she gets better. A loved-one's health crisis will pretty much always throw my concentration down the drain.

  2. 1 million!!! Congrats! I don't know if I have that stat on my page, but now I'm gonna look :)

Love the race pics--some of your best, I think!

Oh, between you and Lori, I am slowly getting the urge to decorate! Such a great idea. I have a lot of ornaments that I don't put out. I think I'll look for some nice glass containers.

Love the knitting projects! That's completely normal to be working on four projects at once, right? I especially love the color and the look of the seed stitch(?) project! Seed stitch is one of my favorite stitches, but I don't do it that often, because its so labor-intensive.

Wishing you a weekend full of knitting! And a little running! And a cinnamon twist :)

    1. It's always a crapshoot on race pics, but I was happy with these. :)

I had all of the glass and crystal containers - they were all around the house. Some were holding yarn, some were in my curio cabinet, some were in my "too-tall, can't reach" spot above the microwave. It was fun to see the mantle come together with what I had lying around.

Ahhh, the seed stitch. I love how squoshy the cowl is, but yes, it's labor-intensive and it's getting heavy, too! So once my hands get tired, I switch to a smaller-needled project.

  3. Year's ago I read in Runner's World this very important race tip: resist the urge to look down and shut off your Garmin as you go over the finishing mat because your head will be down in every photo. LOL!

I changed some of my Christmas decorations around too and it does make things seem fresh. I also left some packed away. Isn't it funny how just changing things around sometimes means you "need" something new. Not that I'd know anything about that *ahem*

    1. I remember hearing that RW tip about the Garmin! Wonder if I'll keep it in mind for next week's race? ;)

I have a lot of my Christmas stuff packed away, but at least I got it reorganized this year. Thirty years' worth of stuff...I don't use a lot of it anymore, but I can't seem to let it go, either. Back to the attic, I guess.

  8. OMG I LOVE the idea of the glass bowls of ornaments! I'm not putting a tree up because we are traveling, but I could totally do an ornament bowl so at least there is something!! Oh thank you for the inspiration.
