Happy Halloween! Paco is going as a caged animal. Really, he gets to spend the evening locked in his crate because he scares the small children when they ring our doorbell...which is not the trick-or-treating experience I want them to have!
BTW, Paco poses nicely for me most of the time...I just have to get him where I want, and then keep saying "wait...waaiiittt" and he will stay there. But the instant I say OK, this happens:
I'm freeeeeeeee!

Speaking of pets, my running club friend Dayna came over the other day to borrow the Super Runner cape for a Halloween costume. We stood outside on the driveway chatting for a few minutes - Paco was running around, and Kip came up to meet her. She left, but a short time later I received this text:
I almost drove off with your cat! He snuck into my car - saw him in the rear view mirror and stopped. When I opened the door he flew out! Lol
DYING. Kip must have been like "I did NOT mean for this to happen when I got into her car" - and as she lives quite a way from town, I'm glad Kip made himself known pretty quickly.

So when I'm not knitting this weekend, I'll be relishing this book.
My CBFF's books together:
I still get creeped out by the man arms on Tina's cover.

I got inspired by a bag of tiny orange and white pumpkins at the grocery store, and brought them home to make a pretty fall tablescape for my dining table:
So festive! So autumnal!
Of course, it wasn't looking good at the start:
What I had, in addition to the bag-o-pumpkins.
A bit sparse. I texted this picture to Helen, who sent back a picture idea, so I went to the craft store and bought a garland of fake fall leaves, some ribbon, and candles. I was pretty happy with how it came together. I should do this more often as it really brightens up the dining area!

I'm still working on my Christmas knitting, but I couldn't resist starting a hat with this colorful yarn:
It's almost finished - all the colors are so pretty!
Have a great weekend - we're only (ONLY, haha) running 9 miles tomorrow.
Happy Halloween to you too. Good luck on your 9 miler tomorrow. I wonder what the weather is doing in Texas this weekend? Here in Orlando we are supposed to have record breaking cold weather for this time of year. We don't usually get below 40 before mid December.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Have a great weekend.
We are supposed to be in the low 40s tomorrow morning and I am GIDDY with anticipation of getting to run in brisk weather!!! I may even wear gloves, wheeee!
DeletePaco's JOB is to protect you from squirrels, UPS men, and assorted people who think ringing the doorbell is a good idea. He just doesn't understand he gets to have the night off is all.
ReplyDeleteLove the fall tablescape - it came out so great!
Paco is never off duty in his mind, that's for sure. ;)
DeleteThanks for your help with the tablescape - I love it!
Wednesday on Fresh Air with Terry Gross (NPR), Terry interviewed Amy Poehler about her book, and it was a great show. You can hear it online if you go to NPR and hit the Fresh Air link. Amy is quite delightful in this interview, and of course, funny. There's a lot of Leslie Knope in her!
ReplyDeleteOoh, thanks for the head's up on this - I'll be sure to listen!
DeleteNah, I don't believe Paco would scare anyone...haha. we don't get trick or treaters in our neighborhood anymore ( kids are all grown) but when we did, our dogs would go nuts everytime. The doorbell would ring. I have to say i'm really not sad to not be handing out candy!
ReplyDeleteI like handing out candy for the first hour or so, but then, I wish they would all come at once. It's like I just sit back down and the doorbell rings again!
Deleteomg......I can only imagine Dayna's expression upon seeing Kip....not to mention Kip's expression when the car started moving!! Thank you for my early Friday morning laugh....see you in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI know, I busted out laughing when I got Dayna's text because I was picturing her face, too!
DeleteOOh, saw in the comments that you will have cold weather for your run! Yay--it will be like a brand new experience!!
ReplyDeleteLove how obedient Paco is. Sophie needs to come to Miss Shelley's school of dog training.
As you know, she basically listens to nothing that I say.
I like Tina Fey, but I don't know Amy--I'll check out that podcast later today.
Tablescape is gorgeous, and hat is beautiful. Is that a fun pattern to knit?
I wonder if our training methods would work on a dachshund...I can assure you that Jackie was not nearly as well behaved as Paco, LOL.
DeleteThe hat is fun to knit - it has a simple pattern that has been easy to memorize. Jury is still out on whether it will fit me or not...I might have needed to make the medium size instead of the small. Going by the old knitter's credo of "it will block out" at this point, haha.
Oh I feel so much better knowing that Jackie was not as well behaved as Paco!
DeleteI ordered Amy's book, too! Mine's coming Monday. Too fun! Haha, and I could just HEAR you saying "Wait, waaait" to Paco! Awww, reminds me of our old Thursdays ;)
ReplyDeleteLOL - yep, you've definitely heard me tell Paco to waaait many times! I miss our old Thursdays, too. :(
Deletehahahaha my dog Riley was also relegated to the back yard during our trick or treating last night. She scares small children with her in your face I want to be your friend approach.
ReplyDeletePaco has the bark bark bark, then tail wag, then confusion as to why no one wants to be his friend after that kind of greeting. It was a long night for him and us - thankfully it's only once a year.
DeleteLove, love, LOVE the tablescape!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks! :)
DeleteYour table is beautiful! I have the decorating ability of...nobody, so I'm gonna steal this idea. I just don't have the decorating eye!
ReplyDeleteHubster just returned from your town - he'd not been back in a while and raved about the weather!
Steal away...and enjoy!
DeleteIf your husband was here in the last week, yes - he got to experience some wonderful weather. October and April and usually the best months here. :)
Kip was probably saying "What the what?? Not what I planned!"
ReplyDeleteI don't know if my cat would get in a car or not. Pixie was a stray when we found her (so who knows where she went) and we had a hard time getting her to stay inside at first. We lived on the main road in town and after burying a few strays getting hit by cars in front of my house over the years, I wasn't going to do that with Pixie.
Now she just loves being inside. Probably because that is where the laps are :D
Paco was a stray and I think that's why he's always underfoot - he never wants to be out on the streets again!
DeleteHope you had a great Halloween. We don't celebrate that but I noticed they celebrate it in Germany. My manager was in China and Hong Kong for business last week and on their last night in Hong Kong they wanted to go out for drinks but it was super busy: the busiest night in Hong Kong of the year because of celebrating Halloween. Never knew that.
ReplyDeleteMy niece has started knitting recently. She makes shawls but ... doesn't use needles but both her hands. She showed me how to do it but it looked difficult to me. Basically you knit from one hand/arm to another and back. Shawls look great, I ordered one and pay a small amount for it so she can buy something nice.
