Friday Mishmash

Thanks to an email from reader Laura, I now know that Paco has a brother:
Bruddahs from anuddah muddah!  Benji and Paco.

Laura recently adopted Benji and was trying to figure out what breed he mostly was - Paco is a fox terrier mix (according to several vets who've seen him over the years) and I think Benji is as well.  I might be a bit biased when I say how cute they both are.

I suspect Benji is probably as devoted to his owners as Paco is to us.  Paco is my shadow, and when I'm at my desk, this is usually where he is:
Wedged in between the spokes on my desk chair...apparently the blanket is too far away from me.
I just lobe you so much, Mom.

This one is for Lori, who has a beautiful garden and is always treating us to her "What's Blooming" posts on Friday:
My one day lily plant that isn't orange.  It only blooms sporadically, too - most of the time it's just a clump of green.

Sit and Knit update:  My mom requested a pink poufy baby hat for a shower gift, and I also needed to make one to be included in a display that my knitting guild will have at our library later this summer, so I knocked both of them out:
Wouldn't these be adorable on twin baby girls?  I have a friend who's trying to get pregnant - is it wrong that I'm hoping she has at least one girl??

I've also been making good progress on that pink shawl:
I pinned it so you can see the lace pattern - it's coming along, although I still have over 150 stitches left to pick up, so this is definitely a long-term project.  The white stripe you see is my lifeline - I need to move it to the row of stitches that the needle is on.  With this in place, should I make a catastrophic mistake, I'd only have to unravel to the lifeline.  Of course, my fingers are crossed that I won't have to do that!

My birthday is on Monday, and I've already been receiving treats via email - so far I gotten:
  • Yogurtland - 16 oz free (that's A LOT of yogurt - might have to share it with Jeff)
  • McAlister's Deli - $5 off coupon
  • Starbucks - free drink (time for my annual Frappuccino, yum)
  • IHOP - free pancakes (haven't been there in a long time, but their Harvest Grain and Nut pancakes might be calling my name...)
  • 20% off coupons at Jo-Ann's Fabric, Lone Star Quiltworks, and WC Mercantile (yarn!)
If I work this right, I will hardly have to pay for any meals this weekend!  Too bad Blue Baker doesn't have a birthday rewards program - but I plan on treating myself to a cinnamon twist tomorrow, after two months of not having one.

Have a great weekend - our monthly AIM post will be up on Monday!

  1. Enjoy your weekend and your birthday treats! Even though it is a few days early Happy Birthday!
I always love your knitting pictures. Last fall you inspired me to learn how to knit which I did plus I learned how to crochet too. Its so much fun making some of your own stuff.

    1. I love that you started knitting because of me! It is fun, isn't it? Good going with the crochet - every once in a while, there's something on a knitting pattern that requires a bit of crochet, and I am not adept at it at all.

  4. Aw, another Paco! Love it! I'd love to get another dog, but with Tony in and out of the hospital, having a dog is just one less thing I have to worry about - I'll live vicariously through your dog! :D

Happy early Birthday - love all the birthday coupons - have a great weekend!

    1. Yeah, better to not get a dog. They do cramp your style when you try to travel or need to not be home, that's for dang sure!

  5. Wow, I need to take lessons on getting birthday freebies! 16 ounces of froyo!! And a cinnamon twist! And just in case I miss it, because I'll be at camp, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Paco--do you think there's some border collie in there? Because he's so darn smart, and also wants to please. Fox terriers might be smart, but I don't think they're particularly interested in pleasing you. At least that was my experience with the one fox terrier I trained : /

I LOVE your daylily. I'd like to get some specialty day lilies one of these days. The shawl is beyond gorgeous, and the hats are beyond adorable!

Oh, and 20% off at WC Mercantile?! You have my permission to go wild! And to get some Love Pie afterwards!!

    1. Border collie might be a good guess...I always thought whippet because he could run for miles when he was younger (and he was FAST, too).

Love Pie...that is an excellent suggestion!!

  6. That shawl is beeeyuuuutiful! I love the lacy look.

Dang - those puppies look like twins! Don't you just love the looks that animals give? Like they are checking to make sure you are still there.

I haven't gotten any freebie things towards my bday yet. I am jealous.

  10. Happy Birthday Weekend, Shelley! I'm thinking you should just declare the whole week yours.

Wish we had a Yogurtland here. Our local fro yo places only spring for about 6 ounces of birthday fro yo. (Which is about how much I usually eat!)

  13. Paco is so adorable, so is Benji but you know Paco has a special place in my heart. I hear you on the shadow. Right now I'm behind my laptop at the dinner table, on the seat next to me is Bella. She always wants to be where I or R. is (she's having a hard time to decide whom she loves most LOL )

The baby hats are so cute and the shawl is going to be great, I can see this is a difficult project but you're doing great on it.

Hope you have a great day tomorrow and I'll congratulate you tomorrow of course.

  14. Happy Birthday!! Mine is on June 3rd :-) This is the second year I have booked the day off work and just had a "me day". I love all the birthday freebies too. I got my free Starbucks, and my free Sephora gift (I'm a make-up freak!) and there were others too that I didn't partake in. Funny my gym said I could get a free smoothie but I actually would have had to go work out and well.....that didn't happen! lol I can't believe how you have advanced with your knitting!! AMAZING! You go girl!
