Cranky Shelley - Unreasonable Edition

Sometimes, things happen that take away the tenuous grip of control that I have on my life.  Like that stupid, stupid flood in my bathroom - yes, the bathroom that we just redid (but I'm not bitter).  I went from experiencing a thrill of "wow, this is so pretty!" almost every time I walked in there to feeling overwhelmed about the repairs needed now.  Which makes me cranky.  And when I get cranky, I tend to be unreasonable in my reactions to things.  For example, I'm stressed and mad about the bathroom, so what do I do?  I unfriend someone on Facebook.  Yeah, that'll help.  The thing is, I'm sure that person wouldn't even notice...but somehow, the crankiness I feel over the bathroom situation transferred over to "why in the world am I Facebook friends with this person?" - and once I hit the unfriend button, I felt a strange, stupid satisfaction.

********************

Another thing that's making me unreasonably cranky?  Chobani Flip yogurt - specifically, their Almond Coco Loco flavor.  I tried it when I was in north Texas last week, and DANG, it's good.  Coconut Greek yogurt!  Yes, the toasted almonds and dark chocolate pieces that you "flip" in are extra tasty, but just the coconut yogurt tastes fantastic, and I'd love to buy some and top it with my own fruit and granola for a change from my normal plain Greek yogurt.  Do they sell it without the flip toppings?  NO!  Come on, Chobani - let me buy a container of coconut-flavored yogurt without the extras...I'm trying to eat (somewhat) healthy over here!
I both recommend and do not recommend you try this product...it's too good, if you know what I mean.

********************

I hate my refrigerator.  Yes, I went cheap when our old one kicked the bucket and bought a smaller-sized one than we had before, and yes, I do like the energy savings that comes with running such a small fridge, but I want to slap myself whenever I come home with more than a couple bags of groceries - I can't fit everything into it!  And also yes, I just went grocery shopping...hence the unreasonable crankiness.  I could just, oh I don't know...buy less groceries??  But it just seems dumb, in the large land that is Texas, to go small when it comes to grocery shopping.
The important food groups - fruit, veggies, dairy and watermelon.  Oh and Gatorade, because it's stupid hot here and we sweat a lot.

********************

You know what?  I'm out of crank.  Either writing it out for this post helped, or maybe it was the bowl of cherries that I ate while typing away, but in any case, I'm done.  I'm sure you're relieved...and hey, if you are feeling unreasonably cranky, feel free to share in the comments - maybe it'll help you, too!

  1. Ugh! That yogurt thing is annoying! I wonder if enough bloggers wrote to them, they would think about selling it separate.

I am happy writing helped with the crank! Hee hee! I enjoyed the post! Taking your retaliation out on FB sounds like something I would do, lol.

    1. Good idea about getting bloggers to write to the company - they do seem to listen to us.

  4. I have to be honest that I love me some cranky Shelley because you make me laugh even though it wasn't fun for you at all.

I'm glad I wasn't the girl that was unfriended :) I would sure miss you on FB.

  5. The Flip yogurts were being given away at the RNR Portland expo. Oh my goodness, yummy. I don't think they are sold in stores here, though. Well, not my store anyway...weird, now that you make me think about it.
I can't imagine how cranky I'd be with a bathroom flood/remodel. I'm angry every morning looking at a shower that hasn't magically cleaned itself overnight.

    1. RNR has some of the best giveaways at their expos - almost makes up for the high entry fee!

I LOL'd at your shower anger. Totally get that.

  6. You have every right to be cranky about your bathroom! And I know what you mean about the Chobani Flip...I LOVE the key lime one and wish they would make it separately. I think we should all email the heck out of Chobani and make them bend to our will?

I would like to congratulate you on what you did with your crankiness....you wrote about it and ate some cherries. Seems like a heckuva victory to me :-)

    1. Ooh, key lime? I bet that is a good one, too. Seriously, we should all email Chobani and get these in separate flavors!

  7. The bathroom disaster would have me running for the hills or in a state of constant crying. Let the crank out any way you can. Glad you're feeling a bit better.

    1. Well, I kinda did run for the hills for a couple of weeks when I went to visit my kids...which is probably why the crank was so strong - I came home and realized how much there is to take care of with the bathroom!

  8. Everyone is allowed to get cranky once in a while - don't sweat it! Speaking of sweat, I was actually thinking of buying gatorade to drink after my Insanity workouts because I sweat so much - do you buy one that is calorie free and do you think it helps vs. just water??

    1. I buy the regular Gatorade because I cannot stand the taste of artificial sweeteners. I usually drink about half the bottle; I also drink some water, too...but I'm a very salty sweater, so I feel like this does help after a workout.

  9. I'm with the other commenters--glad the cranky
    edition helped. Happy to help!

If you weren't horribly cranky & downright miserable
to live with over the bano disaster, then I must
bow down to you or ask your secret. It seems so
impossible a situation, but I guess we all deal
with what comes our way somehow. Better than
we think we will, I guess. Sorry you are going
    throught that.
I was surprised to see Chobani intro those
yogurts. It seemed like such a step backward
or so conforming to what all the other companies
do. (Make it less & less healthy, into dessert.)
I feel confident in your abilities to coconut up
some plain Greek yogurt. (Without using coco
    M&MS -cheating!)
Wishing you a very cheery week my friend!

ps--now that you are 50, do you plan on doing
    a crazy hormone edition? :)

    1. I am proud to say I haven't had coconut M&Ms in forever - maybe close to two years now? That crack needs to stay at the store and out of my mouth!

You are right on the Greek yogurt companies doing a little backslide - I noticed that Fage has a new mixed fruit flavor (Fruyo?) that is higher in sugar and calories, too. But dang. That coconut yogurt was GOOD!

Oh and as for the crazy hormone edition, I honestly think I dealt with most of that in my 40s - things seem to be relatively settled in that aspect, thankfully. :)

  10. Is it wrong that I kinda like Cranky Shelley???? :)

I've unfriended someone like that before. He was a jerk in college and he's still a jerk today - why is he on my friends list??? (Well he's not anymore - it felt good to let him go!!)

Glad you're feeling less cranked now!!

  11. Hope writing the post helped :)
It might be a good thing that I haven't found chobani yogurt here!
Sucks about the bathroom hopefully it will all be fixed soon and hopefully won't cost much.

  12. Hey, isn't that part of what a blog is for, ranting?? I know I do! I totally know what you mean about hitting that 'unfriend' button. Yeah, it might be irrational, but if it makes us feel better, who cares :)

Last Thursday night on our evening walk, I was SO cranky that my husband started walking faster than me, leaving me behind, so he couldn't hear my bitching! Of course, he was smiling and teasing me, because he's awesome that way :)

    Here's to a better day!

    1. Too funny about your husband - do you find that the faster you walk, the more you rant? Or is that just me? ;)

  13. Danon Oikos makes a coconut Greek yogurt too! Maybe they carry that where you are? I'm obsessed with their banana flavor, it's so good with some granola and white chocolate chips.

And I do find crankiness about one thing transferring into other areas. It's not that reasonable, but also not too uncommon :)

  14. This post made me LOL - Cranky Shelley® is kinda funny.

I think un-friending someone when you're cranky is way better than eating which (used to be) my first reaction when something made me mad. Eat McDonald's - that'll show them!?!

    Oy the heat........

  15. Crankies United. My car was hit in the parking lot on our way to San Antonio Dad's Day Weekend. I'm upset that the gentleman who hit me is trying to claim back injuries - he hit me. Moron!

I love that coco loco yogurt. It's my new fav dessert item! Everything tastes better when it's dessert.

    Great post!

  17. First line of this post --best line ever!

I'm never cranky so I found it difficult to relate to this post :)) LOL, its more like 'what can't I relate to! '

  18. I'm with Jill...I question if it's ok that I love Cranky Shelley and her rants!!! You certainly have reasons to rant, but do so very eloquently and with humour! Everyone needs to let it out sometimes! I had bad crank when I had to wait almost an hour after my appointment time in the doctor's office Friday, and my husband and I pissed each other off big time on Saturday, but we're in love again today...these things do pass. May your week ahead be crank free Shelley! Take care.

  19. We must be on the same wavelength, my post today started off as a crankfest and by the end I felt much better! Blogging as therapy, I guess!

  20. Phew, checked FB and we are still friends :D

I was cranktastic last week. Sometimes it feels so good to just vent it all out! With hashtags #ventingforfreedom! :D

  21. I'm having mini crankyfest now, but I'm thinking a little 20-minute nap will take care of it.

I tried the honey/banana Chobani flip and I wasn't really wild about it. For coconut yogurt, I just stir some unsweetened coconut flakes into my yogurt and let it 'steep' in the fridge all day. Works for me, and it has less sugar. :)

Off to check FB and see if there was any need in replying to this post. :)
