Friday Mishmash

The winner of the Krill Oil is:

Congratulations!  Please send me an email (40somethingsjourney@gmail.com) with your mailing info so I can give it to my contact.  If I don't hear from you within a week, I'll have to choose another winner.

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful comments on my five year post - you guys are awesome and every time a new comment would come in, my day was made anew.  Honestly, I didn't know where I was going when I started this blog...but I'm really pleased with where it's at right now, and I love the interaction that I get from you, my wonderful readers!

My parents have been in town since last Wednesday (which is why I've not had time to respond to comments, much less comment on most of your blogs - sorry!).  We got to watch our youngest kid walk the stage at graduation, and had a little party afterward:
The graduate looking toward the future...and tassle-hat man, and cupcakes!  We all got a kick out of that crazy yellow hat - one of the academic advisors or professors, I'm not sure which.  This kid earned two degrees; one in computer science and one in mathematics.  I know not from whence those smarts came from, but they sure weren't from me!

Last year when my mom was visiting, I sent her home with my favorite race t-shirts so that she could magically turn them into a memory quilt for me.  I love how it came out - she picked a bright orange fabric that is printed with Hawaiian flowers, and edged it with blue - I think it tied all the shirt colors together very well.  It's so fun to look at this and remember my earlier races - the pale yellow shirt in the middle of the top row was from my first-ever 5K...ahhh, such good memories:
So cute, right?!  I love it!

And if you're thinking that I look sick in that picture, it's because I am.  I started getting a cold on Sunday and yesterday woke up with my chest burning and congested.  Went to the doctor and got a diagnosis of sinusitis AND bronchitis.  Yay me?  Anyway, he gave me a steroid shot along with some antibiotics and prescription cough medicine, so hopefully I will be 100% really soon.  Big weekend ahead, lots of fun stuff going on (that I'll blog about soon), and I don't have time to be sick right now!

I don't know how it is where you live, but around here, renewing your driver's license in person is a royal pain.  So I just kept doing it online, even though I didn't resemble my picture after I lost weight.  But this go-round, I got a letter saying that I HAD to go in person to renew.  Two hours later, here's my new license (along with the old one, for comparison):
Yeah, I guess it was time for an update.

********************

I may or may not be running a nighttime trail run 5K tomorrow night - depends on how my chest congestion is doing.  I've never had to miss a race due to illness, but I am quite beat and don't want to overdo it just for a little race.  Playing it by ear at this point.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Start from the top: again congrats to your boy for his graduation. Very well done and you look great as a family on the photo.

I'm happy for you that your parents are over for a visit and your Mom has made a great quilt. What a good idea to do that with race shirts.

Sorry to hear you are sick, especially now your family is over. Hope you get well soon and in the meantime: take it easy.

We can't renew your driver's license online, we have to go to the town hall and do it there. And it was definitely time you put a new photo on it. The old one isn't you anymore.

Have a great weekend my friend.

  4. Hope your bronchitis is going away quickly!

Congrats on having TWO college graduates. Do you know how rare that is? (Plus, that they are both moved out of your house?)

The quilt is fantastic. I think t-shirt material is a little hard to work with. Your mom did a great job!

That has to be the most glamorous driver's license photo I've ever seen!

  5. You win the internet for having the best drivers license picture!! Seriously, you look stunning. I would speed on purpose just so I could get pulled over and show the policeman my picture - "See how great my DL pic is?? Can you believe it Officer? What? No I haven't been drinking today!!" :)

That's a very cool quilt! Love the colors in it!

Congrats on having a smarty-smart graduate! You must be a proud mama!

  7. Well, shoot, I thought you looked cute in that quilt picture. That shirt is awesome (and so is your quilt, S had one made of his race shirts years ago, what a treasure).

Night time races are the best (I've done 1). I hope you feel better enough to to do it. Good times.

  8. Congrats to your son! So excited and smart to boot! :D Hope he finds a job quickly.

The quilt your Mom made is amazing - what a great idea!

Feel better, I wouldn't push the race if you aren't feeling good, could end up making you feel worse!

  10. I had to renew my driver's license last week too! In Illinois you can renew it by mail if you don't have any accidents/tickets, but you have to go in for a new picture every other time - so every 8 years. My old one was horrible (bad hair and sunburn - woops!), so I was happy to get a new one :) Gosh, I barely recognize you in your old picture! You look so much younger and happier now, which is a lot to convey in a DMV picture.

Congratulations to your son! Those are two really smart degrees, wow!

  11. Isn't it amazing how much a face changes when it loses weight? My face was the same way...I swear I carried 5lbs of fat up there. I was always jealous of people who had a fat body but still had a skinny face. I hated that even just a head shot looked plus-sized!

  12. Congrats to the graduate! The quilt turned out awesome! You look younger in your new license. Feel better!

  13. LOVE the quilt! I know you're proud of it, both for the races completed and for the love your mother put into it.

I need to get a new license photo, too. I can only hope mine turns how half as great as yours did.
