Friday Mishmash

The winner of Obsessed:  America's Food Addiction - And My Own, by Mika Brzezinski is:

Kim!!!

Congratulations!  Please send me an email (40somethingsjourney@gmail.com) with your mailing info so I can give it to my contact.  If I don't hear from you within a week, I'll have to choose another winner.

Last weekend Jeff and I went to Petco to buy cat food (or cat fud, as I always spell it, thanks to Gary Larson)(OK, here's the cartoon):
And yes, I can see Paco trying this!

Where was I?  Oh yes, cat fud.  We did our usual zig zag through the store, stopping to pet the dogs up for adoption that were brought in by a local shelter, then we went and said hello to the rats (still none cuter than Civi!), and then we meandered through the fish section, where this made me laugh so hard that I had to take a picture:
If this is a shortage, I don't want to know what their regular inventory looks like!

A while back we installed a new ceiling fan in our bedroom - I loved it, especially the remote control, but wasn't happy with the light - it was not very bright at all, and when it was on, it had a yellowish cast.  I bought new bedside lamps when we repainted our bedroom, and that helped with the lighting issue...I figured the shade on the light was too thick to let much light through.  Well, my parents are here visiting and I showed my Dad the light.  He fixed it in about two seconds.  Guess what?  It has a dimmer on the remote control, and obviously, it was set on dim.  Which is how I was feeling after seeing that easy fix - who knew???  OK, maybe it said that the light had a dimmer in the directions, but obviously I didn't read them!

Speaking of my bedroom, I finally bought the chair I've been wanting!  I sold an old piece of furniture, and then got a 25% off coupon, so it ended up not costing me very much out of pocket.  And yes, I need to hang some pictures around it, but I haven't decided if what I have looks right, so I'm holding off:
Paco approves, although he hasn't tried to sit on it yet...and I thank his shedding self for that!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Love the color and style of chair. I am sure Paco will enjoy it pretty soon. Don't worry, I probably never would have figured out the dimmer switch.

  3. I can remember laughing and laughing for a really long time the first time I saw that Far Side cartoon (some 20+ years ago, sheesh I'm old)! Like, for some reason I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I'm easily entertained, obviously. :)

    Love that chair!! So pretty!!

  7. OMG...PACO!!!! Funniest dog ever!!! The Far Side had the funniest cartoons ever....MOST of the time. Some were so FAR off the side I didn't get 'em. Like you, I cracked up at the goldfish shortage. Maybe too many of them were purchased for cat fud! :) Have a great Friday Shelley!!

  9. Oooh, I love that chair. I have a similarly-colored chair I picked up at a yard sale despite the fact that it matches absolutely nothing in my house. So basically, I'm redecorating the living room around a $10 chair. LOL

  10. Haha I think Paco has probably tried to get
    the cats in the dryer.
You were feeling dim, hilarious. Oh--maybe
my technology issue will help you feel better.
Siri stopped cooperating on my phone. She
was really being a knucklehead. She couldnt
hear me right, always repeated everything
completely wrong. I thought maybe something
went wrong during an update or something, &
searched troubleshooting tips. One of the first
ones dealt with settings--make sure she is turned
on. Ahem. She wasn't. Haha. Oops. (Maybe I
turned her off when we were out of the country??)
Anyway, hurray for your oh so techie Dad! Yay!
Soo nice to have a visit from your parents too!

I'm glad you got the chair! Woo hoo!

Happy Mothers Day, Shel!! Hope it's splendid.

  11. It's just a matter of time before we have a photo on your blog with Paco sitting on the chair LOL. Love the chair by the way.

That note at the goldfish made me laugh out loud. I follow this page on FB where they have photos of these kind of things in Dutch, language mistakes. Like recently: two for the price of one, maximum of one per customer.

Have a good weekend my friend.

  12. Gary Larson and The Far Side - thanks for the funny reminder! The chair is too cool. Be sure to post an "after" photo too when everything's in place.

  13. Love the chair, very chic! I really, really want to find an antique library card catalog to use in my entryway...I'm on a QUEST! I predict Paco is going to eventually claim that chair for himself :)
