Friday Mishmash

I know I'm sort-of repeating myself, but for me, it's still a big deal to see my name in a magazine, so when it was put on the shelf at our local bookstore, I had to buy a copy, and of course, share it with you:
So exciting!  And now I feel I must add a bouquet of sunflowers to my cart on my next trip to the grocery store - that picture looks so appealing, doesn't it?

Recently I got the chance to custom design my own T-shirt for free - I decided to do a knitting-themed one, since I'm kinda into that (not sure if you have noticed, lol).  I came up with this:
I think a lot of knitters can relate to this sentiment...

I love the shirt, but pulled a typical Shelley move when ordering it - I picked XL as my size, so it's a little big on me.  Note to self:  you are not an XL.  It will work, but if I do this again, I'll be better at gauging my size (for the record, this is an American Apparel woman's cut shirt - verrrry soft and nice!).  The shirt is from dressunited.com.

I was so busy with working on the bathroom and bedroom that I didn't even get a chance to knit until Wednesday...I think that's the longest I've gone without knitting since I started!  I'm happy to report that the bathroom is completely done now - I found some inexpensive colorful things for that high shelf:
I wanted to put some bright things up there that didn't break the bank, and everything I bought was a bargain (e.g. the orange vase cost $2.40)...I'm quite pleased with how it looks!

The bedroom is painted now - we went with the lighter gray of the bathroom ceiling (SW Tinsmith) for the bedroom walls, and white for the bedroom ceiling.

I bought a new duvet cover and sheets from Ikea - originally I was going to get the sheets in their turquoise color, but they were out of king-size when I was there, so I bought the dark gray.  I actually love how the bed came out, but I still think I need some color (maybe in the form of a rectangular throw pillow?) on the bed.  I also bought new bedside lamps and while I'm loving the crispness of the white shades, that is something I could change out, later on, to add some color.

With painting the room gray, however, the old gold chair that used to sit in this corner does not look good, so we have an empty spot (and nowhere to sit down and put on our shoes):

I have a few more pictures to hang, but it's hard to put things on the wall without furniture to "anchor" them, so I'm waiting until we get something there.

We don't have a lot of furniture stores in town, but I did see this chair at World Market that might look good in that corner:
It's not on sale at the moment, so I'm not in a huge rush to buy it, but it would be nice to get the room more finished looking; maybe there will be a coupon or something in the Sunday paper and I'll be able to get it!

Finally, I wanted to give a big "Get Well Soon!" shout-out to my running buddy Erica's mom, Blanche - she had hip replacement surgery on Monday.  She always asks Erica about Paco, so it was fitting that he helped to make a card for her - I sent it with Erica before she went to be with her mom, and these were the pictures she emailed me (posted with permission, of course):
Erica's mom and dad - how cute are they?!?

Have a great weekend!

  1. What a cute card Shelley.

I love your bedroom especially the big windows. Must be so nice to wake up and stay in bed a little longer to look outside.

And I would be proud to seeing my name in a magazine. Keep showing and telling us because you deserve to be in them.

    Have a great weekend.

  5. I was just about to send out a knitting SOS for you! I was wondering why we hadn't heard anything!

Love that you're excited about seeing your name in the magazine. Its so fun, isn't it?

Love the peacefulness of the bedroom. I agree with the accent pillow--perhaps a KNITTED striped or log cabin pillow??? And the chair is divine.

I love that you are thoughtful enough to MAKE a card for the parent of a friend. And its so clever too. How did you learn to do that?

    1. A knitted pillow??? Oooh, something to consider!

Paco was a very good model with the card - he posed patiently with the Milk Bones and didn't even go crazy trying to eat them when I was finished with the photo shoot. I uploaded it to PicMonkey to add the words, then uploaded that to Walgreens to print the picture (what did we DO before the internet?!) and then glued it onto cardstock. Fairly easy, actually. :)

    2. I was going to suggest a knitted afghan/throw. You could 'pop' a few colours in there! :)

  6. You know a jewel-toned pillow would look awesome in the bedroom. Burgundy or royal purple. Or shall we call it garnet and amethyst?

I have to say that all of the rooms in your house seem so big.

    1. Thanks! Over the years I've moved toward a more minimalist way of decorating - I should look for a picture of our first apartment so you could see the difference.

LOVE Erica's parents! And the shirt. Must get one for my knitter daughter, who must have been switched at birth because I have NO talent for knitting or anything crafty :(

  12. Totally stealing your bedroom color. My husband doesn't like grey but I don't really care because I'm the designer :)

I'm going to go buy that magazine just because you're in it. CONGRATS on that. How fun!

Oh and I'm a little bummed that you can design your own shirts now. I will still be here for you for any "complicated orders".

    Have a great weekend!!

    1. Jeff was not on board with the gray at first, but loves it now. Of course, having to listen to his doubts as the paint went up made me second-guess the color...oh marriage. So fun! ;)

P.S. Glad you are still available for complicated orders, as anything beyond text and font changes is beyond me!

  13. I love your bedroom! It feels so calm and clean. Believe it or not, we've still got the ORANGE carpet that's in our bedroom when we bought the house 13 years ago - I hope to replace it this year finally!

Aw, that last picture is too cute! Enjoy your weekend!

  15. Really beautiful room! I agree, the blue chair would be beautiful. I'm sure it'll go on sale sooner or later...:) I joined a book club about a year and a half ago. When with two of my book buddies at the American Library Association Conference, we all bought "Book Club" T-shirts...it was a take on the "Fight Club" movie. Anyway, I bought an XL. It was tight. I was uncomfortable wearing it. Today, I put it on and could not believe how big it is. I could wear it as a dress and even the shoulder seams fell down my arms. There was so much shirttail, I couldn't hardly tuck it all in my jeans! That's another NEW for me...tucking in a shirt! Not only am I not an XL anymore, now I'm a 'tucker'!
