YMX by Yellowman Review AND Giveaway!

You could have knocked me over with a feather when I got an email from the crew at YMX, offering to send me a Tri-Sport Jersey, and also one for one of my readers...ME???  I was stunned to have made it onto their radar - let's face it, I've not had the best year with traditional workouts.  And I also don't have the sleek, fit, young body that I would think they'd want representing their products.  But I have to say, my self-doubt began to ebb when I read this in the email "We love your posts on weight loss and the active lifestyle you display" - and I realized that yes, I am active...just because I can't do my favorite activity right now doesn't mean I've sat around doing nothing all year.  So I happily accepted their offer, and this is what they sent, and what one of you will have the chance to win:
This is the YMX Tri-Sport Jersey in Winter Flower Red.  Suitable for everything from running around the town to bike riding, running, walking, or anything else you can imagine.  It has three pockets on the back of the shirt that you could stash a water bottle in (if you were biking or walking- I think it would bounce too much if you were running), or a small digital camera, phone, lip balm, snack...shoot, for a longer walk, you could load this up and be hands-free, yet have everything you might need!

Along with the gorgeous prints and patterns that YMX has, they use "MadKool" fabric, which is unlike any technical fabric I've ever seen...it's incredibly soft and smooth and really feels nice against the skin.  My jersey has UV protection of 50+ which I have a great appreciation for, especially after I got sunburned through the technical shirt that I wore at Beach Palooza.

I'll be honest - you all know I am a bargain hunter when it comes to, well, everything.  And at the price of this shirt - $119 - I wouldn't have even considered buying it.  But now that I have one, I will admit that I've been stalking the YMX website, drooling over some of their other patterns, and thinking that in the future, I may just treat myself to another top - maybe a short sleeved one in the spring/summer.  It's that nice.

Additional thoughts about the jersey:  It's really fitted.  I am wearing an XL and it's definitely body-skimming.  Usually on technical shirts I wear a size large, to avoid having anything tight across my stomach.  YMX recommended ordering a size up for a relaxed fit, and I still wouldn't call this fit "relaxed" on me.  Also, the long sleeves are really long - I don't normally have this much of an issue with long sleeves.  That said, the fabric is thin and comfortable enough that it doesn't look or feel funny even though it's bunched up on my wrists.
Long sleeve visual - but as you can see, it looks (and feels) fine bunched up

YMX has generously offered to give one of you, my lucky U.S. readers, the same jersey - sweet!  To enter, just leave me a comment telling me you want to win - I'll let random.org pick the winner and announce it on Friday, December 9th.  Good luck!

FTC:  YMX gave me a Tri-Sport Jersey to review - opinions expressed are mine, all mine!

  1. I shouldn't even comment on this. :) I hope YMX reads this: what would be better than international advertisement for their products when a random girl from Holland wears this. So dear people from YMX: please be kind and gimme, gimme, gimme a shirt :)

Shelley I'm so curious how yesterday went for Jeff and Sam. Please don't keep me waiting too long. Much more interesting for me than a shirt I can't win LOL.

i tend to be cheap when it comes to me -- wouldn't blink an eye to spend $119 on a shirt for any of my kiddos though.

  9. I wore a tri tank style shirt for my last marathon... stashed my shot bloks and bag of pretzels in the pocket!

I suppose the price is like anything else... once you really get into a sport, you're willing to spend a little more, right?

I'll take the shirt when I win.

  11. You seriously are Sporty Spice, you know that, right? I mean that your style is athletic and fun, like this top, and although you shouldn't really wear workout gear as regular clothes, your regular clothes can be influenced by workout looks.

  12. That shirt is gorgeous, and speaking as a woman who apparently has monkey arms, I'm loving the sleeve length -- most of my long sleeve shirts kind of look like "floods" for my wrists, LOL!

    Fingers crossed....

  16. Hi, Shelley. I love the YMX shirt on you and would love to win one.

I actually found your site because I wanted to ask if you'd post about a study I'm doing. While it's hard losing weight on your own, it's not necessarily easier with a spouse or partner. Sometimes partners/spouses undermine weight loss through acts like complaining about healthier food, gifting high-caloric foods, or even through abusive language/acts. I'm creating an anonymous, online survey to assess for partner undermining and to learn more from those who experience it.

To be eligible to take the survey, participants need to have experienced this in their current relationship (of at least the past 2 years), and have been participating in a weight loss program for the past 5 consecutive weeks. For more info, see http://tinyurl.com/Clark-Study

  19. I've never heard of that brand before but yowza - $119! I would be afraid I'd mess it up in the laundry!

That being said, I do like long sleeves in the winter under my jacket - it keeps me warmer somehow.

    Happy Monday Shelley!

  20. Oh you look so cute in that shirt. I would love to have one and stop wearing the Johnny Cash black outfits I wear all the time. I could use some splash of color in my life. Please put me down as interested in winning....as always, you inspire me, Shelley.

  27. I wouldn't mind winning this shirt. It's fabulously grand and you wook mahvelous. But I won't cry if I don't win.

On a side note I was contacted by a group that wants to give a years worth of free tanning spray-on chemicals. Do you think I should take them up on it? I think in my 55 year old skin, with a spray-on tan, I'd wook mah-vehlous too, just like fine Corinthian leather.

  36. Yep, it would be nice to win. (although maybe NOT good to get me started on the shall we say, more 'luxury' items.)

You DO look so good here. You look so small. I know you work hard to stay there.

I appreciate that the folks at YMX recognize your athleticsm. You are such an inspiration to us "forty somethings", and obviously many other age groups.
