I'm Ready!

Ankle surgery is set for tomorrow morning.  I have been prepping like a madwoman all week - cleaning house, grocery shopping, taking care of crazy things like getting out of the jury duty that I was scheduled for on October 6th (and dang it, this time it was at the court close to my house, not downtown like I always seem to get).  I've pre-registered at the hospital, did my bloodwork, picked up my crutches and washed the dog (it seemed like a good idea although he didn't think so).  I had lists upon lists going last week - the knowledge that I'll be pretty much immobile for up to two weeks had me a little worried.  But it's all good now.  Today I just have to get my bedding washed, dig out the extra pillows I'll need for elevating my ankle, and call the anesthesiology place to preregister with them (hey, thanks for sending me the notification to do this on Saturday - nothing like waiting for the very last minute).

Then, the fun begins.  No, not the surgery!  Kelly is coming up to spend the night and go with us to the hospital, as Jeff is teaching and can only drop me off.  At least he's in town this week - next week?  I'll be on my own.  Anyway, Kelly very nicely insisted on coming here to take me home after surgery, get me settled, and make a drug run pick up my prescriptions.  The fun, you say?  Will be tonight, in the form of dinner, Red Mango (sadly, they don't deliver so this will be IT for a while), and quite possibly some shopping - why not go out with a blast, right?

Here's just about everything I'll need for my recuperation - and I thought it was funny that Paco posed with the stuff, because of course, he'll be right there, helping me with every step (and barking at the crutches - so far he's not a fan):
Basket full of little wrapped presents sent by my mom - I'm to open one a day to keep me entertained (kind of like an advent calendar), random library books, new sudoku book, Bridesmaids DVD (I've seen the movie but heard that the outtakes are hilarious), my netbook so I can stay in touch with you all, TV remotes, dog cookies (Paco needs treats, too) and emergency chocolate in the form of Dove Promises.

OK, I'm ready.  Fingers crossed that by doing this, I'll be back to running, pain-free, soon.  That would be wonderful!

  1. Shelley, I'll be thinking of you. Fingers and toes crossed that they'll get everything all fixed up so you'll be better than new.

Maybe you could train Paco to pick up your order from Red Mango? (Just kidding!) He looks concerned - it's funny how pets sense things are different even before they happen.

How sweet of your mom to send you a care package in advance.

I'll be sending you good thoughts and all the best for a speedy recovery!

    Take care...xo Debbie

  9. Definitely keeping fingers crossed for you and sending positive vibes your way.

Isn't Kelly the sweetest to help you out while Jeff is away. She's a sweety.

Paco is going to love those 2 weeks with Mommy because he can keep her company while she's in bed.

    Good luck sweety!

  14. That's so nice of Kelly to do that for you! And how funny that Paco is barking at your crutches. He needed to be in the photo because he was part of the prep, right?
I'll be thinking and worrying and praying on your behalf tomorrow so you just take it easy and let the doc work his magic.

  20. You know what's funny? I did all that stuff too, but I was WAY more obsessed about the food than you LOL! You just did "grocery shopping" I cooked for days! But you did prepare the most important dish--the little baggie of chocolate!

Looks like you're ready, and you have plenty of good advice from your other commenters, so I'll just say ditto!

Are you having a last swim this morning?

  23. You KNOW that I am thinking positive thoughts for you! Stay ahead of your pain, don't try to tough it out. Make certain Kelly gets all of the discharge instructions since you will probably be in a lovely haze. Be calm but focused on your surgery and healing. See you on the other side with some sort of doo-dads on your crutches!

  24. Best thoughts for you Shelley. Just think - in 24 hours you will be on the road to recovery and can get rid of the dang ankle pain finally!

I am glad Kelly is coming, although jealous cause you guys do so much fun stuff together (not the surgery part, but the other stuff).

  25. I've been following your blog since early summer. I enjoy reading about your adventures. I've been mostly lurking, but I wanted to send you good wishes. I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts during the next few days. I'm currently on crutches for a broken metatarsal, so hang in there. My only suggestion would be to get some gel ice packs--the flexible flat kind that have have 6-12 pillows. I used them on my foot the first week after I fractured the bone (while it was elevated) and it was great. I also didn't have to worry about them leaking if I fell alseep. Take care! and heal well!
