Friday Mishmash

It must be the weather, but weirdly, I'm not very hungry.  That does not happen very often, so I'm actually taking advantage of it and - are you ready for this?  Not eating.  I know - brilliant!!!  Once again, I amaze and astound myself.  Might as well ride this wave for as long as it lasts, because I know it won't last long, lol!

A while ago, Jeff won a free Road ID bracelet, which I promptly stole (side note:  there seems to be a bit of a theft theme in our marriage).  Anyway, I finally ordered it - that whole "not running" thing kinda put a damper on my enthusiasm over getting a new one for a while, but I managed to rally myself.  They have a new Wrist ID Slim, which is really neat - it's a smaller stainless steel engraved plate on a rubber bracelet.  The cool thing?  It will also fit on most of the support bracelets out there (like the Livestrong one that Janell sent me a while ago).  Road ID also sells additional colors for just a dollar each, so you can match every outfit, should you so desire...and you KNOW I am all over that!!!  I'm thinking that when I finally get back to running, I will treat myself to some extra colors, just for fun.

I have a yellow and a maroon band, but I need - NEED - a purple and a lime green one!

A few people asked in the comments from Wednesday's post what I wore to my hot yoga classes.  You would think the answer would be "as little as possible" but I found out that less is not necessarily better when it comes to hot yoga...on Monday, I wore my knee-length yoga pants and a sleeveless top, which worked fine when I did regular yoga classes.  Well, having such bare legs made some poses more difficult - there are weird configurations where you're wrapping one leg around another (arms, too) and the sweat made everything slip and slide.  So last night (do you like how I slipped that tidbit that in - I went to yoga AGAIN - twice in one week - go me!) I wore a pair of my Nike running capris and a Champion C9 (Target brand) top, and I was much more comfortable...while I could not imagine running in this heat in capris, they worked great for hot yoga.  I took a quick picture on my way out the door - hair scraped back into a pony tail, no make up - hey, it's not very flattering, but it worked!
This is a racer-back top, which felt really good in the heat.   Plus I liked the loose body.  And of course the color was fun! :)

So swimming.  There is not NEARLY the amount of fun things you can get for swimming as you can for running.  Even the few swimming t-shirts I've seen just didn't feel right for me - I'm not a competitive swimmer, but I am proud of myself for taking the plunge (I know, that was bad).  A few weeks ago I was messing around on the Running Chics website and found this:
It's me!  Not sure what I love more, the swim cap, the goggles, or the fact that she's swimming with her head out of the water!

Here's a picture my friend Terry took of me when I wore the shirt to our weekly lunch on Wednesday:
I love this shirt - I'm a Swimming Chic!

During our lunch, Terry also got a picture of me and my "halo"  - do you see it?
After I dried my hair and threw on a headband (summer hairstyling - it's getting lazier by the day!), I noticed a ring of short hairs sticking up at the top of my head...and flashed back to when I first started swimming, Coach Joni mentioned something about how a swim cap will cause hair breakage...and there it is.  Luckily, if I actually just style my hair it won't be noticeable.  But I feel kind of "official" now as a real-deal swimmer.  I know, I'm weird.

Hope you all have a great weekend, and come on in, Tropical Storm Don - Texas is waiting for you!!!

  1. You must be as early a riser as I am! I can't believe I'm the first Friday commenter - makes me happy. I got up and took friends to the airport at 4 a.m., so I'm be ready for bed by 6 p.m.!

Love the tee shirt - and dare I say you are chic in just about every area of life.

That road ID is a great idea - 2 of my kids are big runners and I always tell them they need to have some kind of ID on them when they do distances. I'll be looking into that. Have a great w/e, and I bet when I publish this I won't be the first commenter! GRRR

  2. I know it seems really bad that you can't run, but look at all the fun things you are doing now - swimming, running - it's awesome!

Yesterday I went to the pool and alternated kicking for 100 and swimming for 100. Today I can barely walk, and I'm still tired! You are a STAR for swimming so much - it is hard.

  3. You are so funny with the matching colors of even your road i.d.! And you just reminded me that I have not been wearing mine when I run at lunch - thanks to your reminder I just threw it in my purse for today.

Hope the temps stay down for my run - wish I could send you some of our rain - we've had the wettest July since 1898!! Almost 10 inches of rain.

Hope you have a great weekend Shelley! Love the t-shirt!

  6. For regular yoga (I am not the hot-yoga-type because I am the vaso-vagal-syncope type), I either have to wear my spandex shorts (home-alone yoga) or my mid-calf capris...I'm not sure why exactly but anything in the middle seems to get in my way during some part of the class. Weird, I know.

  7. That shirt is so you! And for me you were already a swimming chick and a gorgeous one too!

I love that Road ID bracelet. Maybe I should think of getting one too since I usually run my long runs on roads where there are few houses and not many people. You never know what might happen. And you should definitely buy other colors because that's who you are: my stylish friend.

I hope you will have a great weekend Shelley. Big hug from across the ocean for you.

I gotta say how great you are looking - that smile compliments all of your outfits and swimming certainly seems to be agreeing with you!

  12. You're so pretty. :) Look at the shoulder muscles you have!

Love the adorable shirt. Thanks for sharing about the hair breakage. I'm thinking that might be my problem with wearing a hat. I have a bunch of little hairs like that. It's the new trend. ;-)

  16. You made me chuckle at getting matching wrist bands to match your outfits - you are so funny.

I LOVE that swimming shirt. That would be me too, swimming with my head out of water because I have my contact lenses in!

    Have a great weekend!!

  17. Yay exercise clothes! And yay yoga! When you do tree pose, you should either rest your foot above or below your knee, not on it, so it doesn't get stress on it, or something :) Happy weekend!

  22. I cried at the end :) This was it, nothing more to read or to see.
The hub kept asking in the car what had become of Harry after 19 years: what was his job, was he working at Hogwarts bla bla bla LOL I said it wasn't important but he thought it was, he wanted to know if he was head of the school or something :)
