This week I was once again reminded of just how grateful I am for the blogging community. It's not only the wonderful support I receive when I post things like my loose skin, or my weight reveal; it's the "atta girls" you all give me for doing my workouts and running - things that I really put a lot of effort into. Compare that with having to spend time Thursday evening with someone who is very opinionated and didn't have a problem letting me know how "trainers don't have your best interest at heart - that they push their clients to the point of injury to make themselves look good" (my experience with my trainers has been nothing but positive). And how "running is terrible for your feet and knees, no matter what kind of shoes you wear or how careful you are to train." I just don't know why this person feels that I need to hear crap like this...it sure makes me feel crummy, because of course I never stick up for myself beyond a few weak sentences, which then get run over by more and more opinions. Sorry if this is vague - I really try not to disparage anyone publicly on my blog, and I do like this person, except when this becomes the subject matter. Needless to say, it was a long night. I was glad to come home and check in on my bloggy friends - y'all have the right attitude!

So...guess what I'm doing on Saturday? Why, I'm going for a run! With my running partner, Jeri! And my new Nike + thingie that will track my mileage! I'm looking forward not only to the run, but to keeping track of how many miles I go (and I seriously cannot believe I just typed that - did you not see the picture of the old me (or "larger than life" as POD so eloquently put it) in my previous post? That person could barely ride a mile on her bike and had no intention of ever running a mile - or more!). But the sun is supposed to be shining, the rain will have stopped (shakes fist at sky...stop with the wet stuff, already!) and I am ready to GO! BTW, my first 5K is three weeks from today - I've passed scared and am now approaching excitement about it. I know, I'm crazy. Just ask my Thursday night friend.

  1. I hate running. It's not fun, the "girls" bounce way too much and other things jiggle...a lot. Couple that with a bad foot/ankle and bad back and well, running seems like the worst possible use of my time. Of course, now that I'm embarking on the road to healthy, I kind of have this thought way in the back of my brain that I could eventually run a 5K. If the mere thought of me running a 5K is in my head, then I KNOW you can, without a doubt, actually run a 5K in three weeks! You're gonna be a rock star!

  2. Some miserable people just aren't happy unless they can make everyone else around them miserable, too. Make sure you stay away from that person in the future. She's a happiness suck-dryer. You don't need her or her negative b.s. in your life! Plus, I'm pretty sure she is JEALOUS of you and what you have accomplished. Too bad, so sad for her.

  3. YOU are definitely one of the bloggers I am so glad to have "met" Shelley. I am definitely in your fan club. I have some acquaintances who are like that about my exercise too so my solution (if I like them) is to just refuse to discuss that with them. You know it's sort of like avoiding religion or politics at a dinner party. Hope you have a great run tomorrow!

  5. Enjoy your run tomorrow!
Running can be bad for your knees but usually only if you already have bad knees. I've never had any problems what so ever when I ran. Yes in the beginning when I didn't have the right shoes on.

So just go out there and enjoy it!

  6. Good luck with your run, Shelley! I'll be thinking of you. Don't let Cruella (or Cruello) get you down - "they're just jealous," as my mom would always say.

  8. I'm so excited I was the winner. Thanks so much Shelley!

I don't know why people have to be so negative but there's a lot of jealousy on the weight loss front and I've lost more than one friend over it.

Good luck with your run this weekend. I hope the rain stops here one day as well!!

  9. I know those people and I really believe they are just using those excuses to have a reason to NOT exercise. I think I WAS one of those people, but you know you are awesome so forget them!

I love my Nike+, I'm totally addicted to it!

  16. Hai there,

Answering your question: yes I wear a monitor. I just recently bought a Garmin Forerunner (comes with a monitor also) but I only use that for running outside. I already had a Polar heart rate monitor before that and I still use that in the gym. In fact in my gym it's a rule you wear one. If you don't have one, you can buy it there.

At fitness I try to stay within the zones but don't do that at running otherwise I probably would be walking  but I believe if I train on the right rate in the gym eventually it will pay off in my running.

  17. I used to have a "friend" like that who was always negative, and it was my husband who pointed out that friends wouldn't say those things if they truly were your friend.

I talked to this person on a daily basis, was always there for her. When we moved an hour away, I never heard from her again! Because I was no longer convenient to her.

I hope your run went great today!! Our sun is shining, but its cold - 25 degrees, and the snow is dirty and ugly again. :(
