Mason Turns Three!

Time is moving so quickly - it feels like I was just holding our first Renegade baby, Mason, in the hospital after he was born:
Newborn Mason!

And now he's turning three years old!  His birthday is on Saturday but his mamas had his party a week early, probably because of the busy holiday season but mostly, I suspect, just in case Mason's brother decided to show up early...yep, that's right, Mason is going to be a big brother very soon.

Mason's party theme was the Lion King, and while there were many cute parts to the party, I think the cutest was the dance that he wanted to do for everyone - he had one of the songs from the movie ready to play on CC's phone and once he had our attention, performed for us:
Do you remember the last time you danced, unembarrassed, and with joy?  I don't.  I hope Mason keeps this up because it really was adorable, and I love that CC and Loretta encouraged him to express himself like this.

I think there were seven boys at the party - everyone played together so nicely except for Aiden, who slept through the entire thing:
A party pooper but we forgave him, haha.  I was a little afraid to hold him but Diane babysat me the entire time and promised to grab him if I went down.  Luckily we all stayed conscious.
Tee ball - don't you love the outfielder's stances?
Mason up to bat - it was hilarious because you never knew which way that ball was going as each kid hit it differently.

Being the youngest (well, except for Aiden), Logan had some coaching going into the party regarding waiting for cake until everyone sang Happy Birthday.  I believe at this point he'd already sung it twice - he was being so good but it was funny to see the look on his face like COME ON I SANG IT, LET'S EAT!
Blowing out the birthday candle!
Me:  Hey Mason, what kind of cake are you eating?  Mason:  Green.
Silly Jeff in a mask.
Me:  Hey Logan, what kind of cake are you eating?  Logan:  Red.  It looks like he was just eating a handful of icing - I think both he and Mason pretty much ignored the cake and just went for the icing.

Me:  Hey Jeff...  Jeff:  Green.  ;)
Presents were opened (we shopped for his gift at Universal Studios - who doesn't want a Tonight Show race car??) and once again I was really impressed at how sweet all the kids were with watching Mason open everything - there wasn't a lot of helping, which we all know is hard, regardless of your age, LOL.

We enjoyed helping Mason celebrate his birthday.  At this age (really, by two) I don't expect any of the kids to be super affectionate nor do I push for a hug - boundaries are important for all ages - but when I bent down to tell him goodbye, he surprised me by reaching out for a hug!  That was the icing on my day.

  4. Awww! I remember that point with some of my cousins and friends' kids, where they no longer want a hug. It's heartbreaking, but thankfully they usually grow out of it and allow hugs again eventually! And there's going to be another new baby too?! There were a few years right when I turned 30 that EVERYONE I knew was having a baby, which was awesome for all the baby snuggles :)

  8. The only time I dance unembarrassed with joy is when alcohol is involved. LOL. Since I don't drink much anymore, I guess I also don't dance much either. Looks like a fun party and I do hope you feel better and better. Take care. xxoo
