WWU - Fragile, Weak, Strong

I've had two private workouts since my surgery, and while they have been great and it's so good for my mental health to be moving and pushing myself a bit, I have noticed a couple of things that need improvement.

First, I'm noticeably weak.  Everywhere.  I know my muscles need to be built back up, but this is more like a lack of stamina.  My arms get so tired while I work out, and it's not muscle tiredness, it's just weakness, if that makes sense.  My legs are in a similar boat...weirdly not as weak yet that left leg, which was affected by the irritated nerve, doesn't always connect with my brain when it comes to doing some exercises.  It can do them, but it just doesn't do them at times.

The other thing that I have to work on is keeping my form correct.  I can't let myself get sloppy while I work out, and that means I have to concentrate a lot more than I used to in order to keep my core engaged, my tail tucked, my ribs pulled in - my back can't afford any dumb moves on my part.  I have to protect it and I feel a little fragile when it comes to doing things that I used to do without thinking.

I have been really happy to get back to the gym and I'll be rejoining my group, finally, in December.  That can't come soon enough!

  1. I think your second point is why it's so great that you're working with Jared on this stuff! It's so easy to get sloppy form, even when things feel fine, but trainers are always on top of that :) I'm happy to hear you're going back to the group in December too! Yay!

    I would imagine the weakness is just a result of you not being able to do much for such a long time, and it'll build back up through PT and your workouts.

    1. It's funny, Jared circles me as I'm doing each exercise - I know some people might feel unnerved by that but I'm glad he does it as he catches me pretty much the instant I'm not in proper form.

  2. Some of the weakness has to be due to your inactivity for so long, but I'm sure you're still experiencing effects of the gabapentin. Just keep on keeping on, my friend!

    1. I didn't think about the Gabapentin effects but yeah, I'm not off of it entirely so that probably does add into the mix. Thanks for the reminder! :)

    Sometimes I think that we ALL should be focusing on form a whole lot more!!!

    1. Maybe I was just a lazy exerciser in the past, but I swear, once you've had an injury, form paranoia sets in, LOL.

  4. I don't blame you a bit for being very careful and cautious with your training as you are recovering from your injury. Glad Jared is on it to make sure your form stays good through out the workout. I agree with the others your strength will come back as you are able to do more. Good to see you making progress.

  5. I actually think you're going to be surprised at how fast you rebound now that you can have regular workouts again. It doesn't take much to bring it back. Also, take measurements so you have your starting point and then one day in a few months when you feel like you haven't gotten anywhere, measure again. I bet you'll be shocked.

  7. That is great you are going to rejoin your group! And being weak and having your form not be on point totally makes sense. Time to relearn all that, yay ;) But you have such a great support crew, you're gonna kick butt!
