What I Did With My Extra Hour Yesterday

(apparently, actually scheduling this post for publishing wasn't one of the things...)

I don't know why, but when the time changes in the fall and we get back the hour we lost last spring, it always feels like the first day has way more than just one extra hour in it. Maybe it's because I can be floofing around looking at earwarmer patterns on Ravelry, only to check the time to see that it's just 9:15 am! What is usually a guilty pleasure at wasting time scrolling through patterns when I could simply be knitting wasn't - I'd satisfied my search quest and still had the entire day ahead of me.  So, along with some normal things like boring kitchen cleaning and laundry, I also:

Knit on this hat:
Cables!!

Now, cables aren't particularly hard, but you do have to count your rows and then use a cable needle when you get to the cable round, but after so. many. months. of not knitting due to brain malfunction, it was a marvel to see this hat progressing.  Side note:  I've been slowly tapering off the Gabapentin and was on 600mg/day when I began this hat; today I start my last week of Gabapentin with 300mg and then I am DONE.

I can watch this on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac computer...but can't figure out how to watch on our TV, ironically.

Watched the first three episodes of The Morning Show on Apple+ TV, which I didn't know I had until I got an alert on my phone informing me that a free year was included with my new phone.  That was a neat revelation, and I loved the new show.

Transcribed a conversation that our Nest camera captured on Halloween night.  Backstory:  Our street is very hit-or-miss when it comes to getting trick or treaters, and since Jeff was out of town, I decided to forego handing out candy.  I turned off all of our outside lights and didn't have any lights on where they could be seen through the front door windows.  At one point the doorbell rang and Paco shot off my lap to bark his way to the door.  Later on I watched the camera footage and cracked up at their astute logic regarding Paco's barking:

(kids run up to door)
Ding Dong it!
(princess rings doorbell)
(Paco barking)
A dog!
(serious faces)
That'll wake them up and then they will give us candy.
(giggling)
(more dog barking)
(girl looks up)
They have a security camera.
(they all run away)

Misinterpreted Paco's tap tap tappy toes for wanting to be let outside numerous times before finally realizing that he was leading me to his empty water dispenser - which, to my defense, is located right next to the back door, and I haven't been the person filling it in months thanks to my back - but poor dog, he was thirsty and I just kept making him go in the backyard.

Livetracked my blogger friend Darlene, who was running the NYC Marathon - her very first - yesterday!   I'm so impressed with what she accomplished; congratulations, Darlene!!

How was your first day of the time change?  Did you feel like you had all the time in the world yesterday?

  1. Yes!! It felt like the longest day ever! I went to bed early, so then I got up at 6am. It just seemed like a really long day. And Sunday is my day of rest, so I sat in my chair for the longest time knitting. Oh, but I did go out and stack some firewood that just got split so I didn't have to do it this week :) Also, after church, I stopped at Costco, and on the way out they gave me their Christmas catalog, and I found several things that I will get myself for Christmas :))

  2. I hate the time changes - both of them! They make me crazy because everything either feels too early or too late. My day started with me making myself stay in bed until 5:30 (new time). Yesterday at 3 I was prepping dinner and Bobby asked me why I was starting to cook so early. I held dinner off until 6 but my stomach was saying it was 7 UGH! And we both ended up putting on pajamas at like 3:30 because it was starting to get dark out lol. So crazy!

    1. I would really be happy if we could just stick to one time zone. I don't know why the time change is still happening...and considering how many people are affected by it, twice a year every year - well, it's silly. I'm all for traditions but this one has to go.

  3. I don't know that I got a lot of "extra" stuff done but it did feel like a longer day that is for sure. Like Helen, Mike and I got into our bed clothes earlier than usual for us. I have decided to have early dinners so as not to go to bed with food on my stomach so I also identify with her prepping dinner early. Funny enough I feel asleep last night at 8:30 which was 9:30 the old time so my sleep schedule feels off.

    1. I'll tell you who has had the hardest time - Paco. His dinnertime is 6:00 pm and I was trying to make him wait as close to that new time as possible but he was antsy pants, starving to death, LOL.

  4. That is so awesome you are almost done with that med!!! And your cables look great. I bought this cable pattern years ago and still have not figured it out. My brain is like, HUH?!

I am glad to hear The Morning Show is good. I saw a lot of people saying they thought it looked terrible (but I have not seen a preview but I didn't know why).

I felt like I had more time in the am yesterday to run which was great!

    1. Cables can be tricky but danged if they don't make a hat look good!

I heard some negative things about The Morning Show but I liked it and was intrigued...I'll be watching it through the end.

  5. Darlene is truly amazing! I can't believe at age 67 she took on her first marathon--and NYCM at that. I met her once and she is a dynamo!

Glad to hear your getting off the Gabapentin. Welcome back to the world!

  7. Well, I used that extra hour on Sunday...it took me an hour to run the marathon. Oh the pain.

Nut I did it. Now that the weather is getting cold, I want to resume knitting.

Can't wait to read about your return to running. I'm not giving up hope.
