FMM - Two VERY Different Sets of Pictures

I usually plan what I'm going to post on Friday based on what pictures I've taken during the week.  But we had a rain event on Wednesday that was so wild those pictures will be included as well, even though I'm sure you guys are all woohoo, weather pictures, how exciting.  I get it.  But I'm gonna post them anyway!

First though, I have to document my birthday gift from Allie:
A BaByliss hairdryer!  I've been wanting one ever since January, when I used the hotel's hair dryer.  So when Allie asked what I wanted for my birthday, this was at the top of my list...and she came through with this beauty.  I sent her the above picture when it arrived.  I have the best daughter ever!
The next morning after I'd showered and dressed, I took a before shot.  My hair had been wrapped in a Turbie Twist for about 15 minutes for the pre-dry.
Six minutes later* I was done, completely styled.  SIX minutes!  That is fast for my thick mop of hair, let me tell you.  I loved the new dryer - it was much quieter than my old one, the handle is smaller and easier for my small hand to hold, and I know you can't tell in the picture, but my hair is very smooth which is nice because I have no product in it to help with that.

This is not an ad for BaByliss hairdryers, I just wanted to share my glee with you guys.  Before using one, I wouldn't have believed that one hairdryer could be all that much better than the next one, but I'm a believer now!

And now...the great rain event of June 4th 2019.  We woke up to heavy rain and when we looked out the window, we were shocked to see that our backyard was quite flooded:
Well now, that's a lot of water!  Our house was in no danger of being flooded, but this was not something we expected to see.

Of course when something like this happens, we go check the green area in the middle of our street - it's the drainage area for three streets, and once in a great while it will fill up during a storm:
Filled, and water was running over the road at this point!
We still had a few feet to go on our end of the street but this was a sight to see - a real gol'darn sight, I tell you whut.  (Sorry, my Texan incredulous talk came out for a moment).
Eventually Jeff left for work and while I stood in the garage taking pictures as he was leaving, he stopped at the head of the street to take a few - the last two in this group were from him.  If we had a kayak, we really could have forged the mighty pond on our street!

And then, about an hour and a half later:
The rain stopped, the drains caught up with the water, and the potential for kayaking was gone...and the grass and plants are already looking greener.  No need for sprinklers for a while now!

Shortly after the rain had stopped, I happened to see a Facebook post by our local weatherman.  He showed a radar picture and said that our area was in the bullseye of the storm - yeah, no kidding!  From what neighbors say, we got between 7 - 9 inches of rain.  Every time we have this much rain fall in such a short time I think we should get a rain gauge, but it would have overflowed pretty quickly unless they make one that's a big tube.  We'd need a Texas-sized rain gauge to keep track of these Texas-size storms!

We have a dry, hot weekend ahead, with no plans beyond running and breakfasting with the Renegades at Blue Baker.  I still get tired pretty quickly so that's enough excitement for me.  I'll have an update about what's going on with my herniated disc on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

*I cannot write or say anything with the words "six whatever" without hearing the words "SIX. INCH. RIBBON. CURLS.  Six inches!" from the movie Elf, when Jovie's boss at Gimbel's gave her grief over using too much ribbon at the gift wrap center.  Just thought you should know that.

    1. Mine is lighter than my old hair dryer but I will say I've picked up several BaByliss dryers at Ulta recently and there are some heavy ones.

  2. We have been deluged with rain lately! This week our street turned into a lake, which we affectionately call Lake Roanoke (the street name). And then....it's gone! LOL

My hairstylist uses BayBliss products. She swears by them!

  4. As someone who blow dries their hair nearly every damn day, I totally get your excitement at your hair dryer. Finding a perfect hair dryer is akin to finding a perfect hair dresser!

So, 6-7 inches of rain in Texas creates a temporary river then nicely absorbs into the grass and drains. Fascinating! Here that kind of fast, heavy rain would flood people's basements. Which IMO is another reason to move where there are no basements!

    1. Maybe that's why there are no basements in Texas - the rain would flood them on the reg. So we don't have flooded basements but we also don't have basements to take cover in during a tornado warning. Hmmm. :|

  5. SIX MINUTES?! That makes me want to get one AND wash my hair every day (currently only doing it maybe twice a week). What an awesome gift!

    LOL "I tell you whut"

    1. This would have been so nice to have when I was working out and running so often - many times I considered cutting my hair off so it would be faster to deal with after all of those post-workout showers!

  6. Wow even I am impressed with the amount of rain yall had! I just had to let my southern twang out a bit. I'm sure you understand.

I have a 10.00 cheapee blow dryer so I understand your excitement over getting a new awesome blow dryer. I too have thick heavy hair, and as long as I keep it short its not to terrible to dry it.

We went three whole weeks here last month w/o a drop of rain, and now it seems the rainy season has started. I tell you its a feast or famine situation here in Orlando, with the rain.
Hope you have a nice weekend.

  7. I was in Arlington, Texas several years ago for a conference when we had the rainstorm of all rainstorms. I've never in my life experienced so much rain in so short a period. Everything was flooded but a few hours later, the streets were back to normal. So obviously you folks are experienced in those rains and your storm drains are designed accordingly!

  8. I've never heard of that brand of hair dryer before, but if I could get smooth instead of frizz, I'd be elated. So. Much. Product. goes into trying to tame my hair. And if I had your Texas humidity? Forget about it!

  9. Boy those Texas flash floods really are something! I’m gonna have to investigate that hair dryer!

  10. My hair is almost to my waist and takes forever to dry. I need to look up that blowdryer STAT!

  11. My stylist uses Babyliss too!! She also uses a Babyliss flat iron - it just gliiiiiides right over the hair. I'm excited for you about your new hairdryer! Happy belated birthday!!
