FMM - Plants and Paco

While we haven't done anything regarding our plants outdoors yet, I did get a bit of spring fever and repotted several of my indoor succulents this week - I want to see if they'll grow bigger if I move some from tiny pots to larger pots, which is how I ended up with five tiny plants in one pot:
I swear these haven't changed size in a year so it will be interesting to see if this works.
This crazy plant has actually grown a bit, but I saw a picture of one similar to it on Instagram and it was really full and lush, so I'm hoping it will do that with more room to grow.

Here's a real experiment - I got this baby to grow from a discarded leaf, so I replanted it into a bigger pot to encourage it to grow like its big siblings:

It's really tiny right now - but not bad considering it came from thin air, basically.

Here are the siblings, and I guess one might say, the donor plant that created the baby:
They turn pink with winter sun but will end up mostly green with a pink edge on the leaves, once we hit the summer months.  I like how succulents change like that.
It's not super tall but the baby has a long way to go to catch up to this one.

Here's my disappointment - the string of pearls:
After nearly two years with this plant, I expected more.  I want lots and lots of strings, not four!  If I ever see a lush string of pearls plant for sale locally, I'm going to buy it because I'll be 90 before this one gets to the look that I want.
I moved things around on this rack as well.  Seeing this picture makes me realize I have a lot of empty pots that need filling!

Paco got his stitches out on Tuesday but wasn't feeling our traditional vet selfie:
Stop bodering me, mom.

In the never-ending saga of that poor dog, he's got another skin infection, which the vet thinks might be a stress manifestation from the foot surgery/anesthesia - he certainly wasn't licking or chewing on his skin because he was coned for two weeks.  He also developed a pressure sore on his tailbone, geez!  So now he's on a strong antibiotic, we have spray for his hot spots, and we bought him plusher dog beds - one for his crate at night and one for my office:
I'd say he's comfortable, wouldn't you?

I hope this is it for him now - Paco deserves to have an uneventful, normal life after everything he's gone through over the last few years!

Tomorrow we are just running in our regular area, not racing, so I think we're going to try and get 4 or 5 miles in, with the idea of becoming stronger for the shorter 5K distance.  I have a couple more chances with 5K races this spring to hit my goals so hopefully this will help!

Have a great weekend!

    1. I know, poor pup! He's doing much better though, so fingers crossed this all works and he'll be just a normal dog soon.

  3. It has been winter-like cold here still but we've had bright sunny days so my planting bug has been i effect as well. My contribution was to put out my flowery spring flag lol. Every time I see succulents I think of you and wish I could send them to you!

Oh gosh Paco! Poor guy really does deserve a break (as well as your wallet).

    1. Heh, the only thing I've done outdoors was to put up my cheery Easter egg garden flag! GMTA. :)

  4. I hope Paco feels better soon! Poor guy.

I don't do succulents but I did plant my cherry tomato plants and they are starting to come up nicely. Looks like I am going to have a bumper crop of them around May I think.

I hope your run goes well with no pain. Have a great weekend.

  5. I have loads of succulents and am guilty of continuously taking discarded leaves and starting new plants. Seriously, I have a problem!

  6. Boy, I hate to hear that Paco is still having some big problems. I like buying doggie beds at Home Goods. They always have a good price on them.

The succulents. I think they like it outdoors better than indoors. My mom's are doing great on her deck, and my friend in Anaheim has some amazing succulents on his patio. But for you and me, its just too cold for them in the winter. My jade plant has lost almost all of its leaves. And my other two that have survived haven't grown much. I definitely think you should invest in a plush string of pearls plant!!

    1. I got the dog beds at TJ Maxx after looking at them online and at Petsmart - holy cow, they were very expensive! We are getting a Home Goods soon and I am sooooo excited!

I agree with you on the succulents liking the outdoors, but nah, not where you and I live. That is one thing I love about visiting Santa Cruz, is seeing all the succulents everywhere you go.

  7. Spring always makes me anxious for new plant growth. One of my favorite plants is called a pregnant onion. They are beautiful when really big. You should check them out.

We had our own dog drama this week too. I thought my little rat terrier was having a stroke! Turns out she wasn't but several tests and a night at the vet's on an IV and she came home yesterday afternoon. She is now being treated for several things including high blood sugar and liver disease.

    1. Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry about your dog! I hope she's feeling better - and you as well.

I looked up a pregnant onion - cute! I'll have to see if they are available locally.

  8. I love your love of succulents. Everytime I see one I think of you!

Yes, I hope Paco gets back to normal soon. It's no fun when our furbabies are uncomfortable. But nice to see he feels comfortable in his new bed.

  9. Poor Paco - he just can't seem to catch a break! Hope the new beds and sprays bring him comfort. Check out my blog on the flower show (the second post). I have a great picture of the string of pearls, coincidentally! I'm thinking of getting some myself.

  10. I'm living spring vicariously through your photos. I see leaves on your trees! Big (soft) puppy hugs to Paco from Zuzu and me (🐶)

  12. I've toyed with succulents. Do they do well indoors. Our climate is not conducive to outdoor plans.

I do think running longer does help with 5k speed. Good luck.
