FMM - We Need to Discuss the Mighty Thor

Specifically, the movie Thor: Ragnarok.  Now, I might just be the last person on earth, or at least in the blogisphere, to see this movie, but you guys, it's funny!  Who knew??  I haven't watched any recent superhero movies beyond Superman (with  Christopher Reeve) and some of the Batmans, so this was a pleasant surprise.  Thor: Ragnarok had me laughing right from the opening scene, and it continued for the entire movie.  And it wasn't just Thor who was funny - pretty much all of the characters in that movie had me cracking up.  I'm not a fan of movies with a lot of action/fight scenes, and I guess that's why I never was interested in seeing any of the Marvel movies, but this one made me realize that I've been missing out.

Thor: Ragnarok is on Netflix now, which is how we ended up watching it - Sam suggested it one evening while he was home, and I fell down the Marvel rabbit hole and ended up watching quite a few other movies in the Avenger series.  We didn't watch them in any particular order; Sam owned several and had access to them via the cloud, so we went with that.  Just so you know (again, in case I'm not the last person to know this), there are 20 movies to catch up on before Avengers: Endgame opens in movie theaters this coming May.  I found a list on Buzzfeed that recommended watching them in a chronological order vs release date order, so I made myself a spreadsheet because I will never remember if I've seen them all at this point without some help:

After being entertained by more of the Marvel movies, I finally understood who Captain America is.  Still trying to figure out what Iron Man's deal is but we'll get to him next.  I also love that Stan Lee has a cameo in each of these movies and I always get a laugh seeing him unexpectedly pop up.  But mostly I am enjoying Thor.  From when he holds his hand out for his hammer to fly into it and sometimes that doesn't happen, to when he holds his hammer to the sky to charge it with lightening, to his genial nature and funny confusion about how things are done on earth, he's my guy.  Also:
Hey Thor.

Tell me - AM I the last person to discover how funny the Marvel movies are?  Thor:  pro or pro?  There can be no cons with this guy, trust me.  Also, where can I find a t-shirt with the single A from the Avengers logo on it?  I feel like wearing it might help during my workouts.  Or maybe I need one with Thor's hammer - that might be better for lifting weights, right?

Have a great weekend, and please chime in below with your thoughts on Thor.

  1. Ahh, Chris Hemsworth, how I love thee (my snister actually got me a huge cutout of him, ha!). <3 Thor Ragnarok is actually quite different from the first two in that Thor is so funny (he was more serious in the others). I liked the other two, but loved laughing at that one in the theater. And love that they have humor in most of the Marvel movies!

I’ll be curious what you think of them all since you aren’t in to all the action/fight scenes. I’m not either, so I’ve stopped seeing them in theaters, save for Thor cause he’s my fave <3 I liked Captain American too.

And make sure you watch the promo scenes from between movies, like the one where Thor gets a roommate!

    1. I found that with the fight scenes, they didn't last so long that my interest waned... plus even those scenes had humor with this movie!

Thor gets a roommate?? Oh I have to see that!

  2. I haven't seen any of the Marvel movies mostly because I don't think I like comic book characters? I can see the sex appeal of Thor he is one gorgeous looking man. Now after reading this I might see the one you recommend.

My grown son loves these movies but so far I have resisted. I usually go see the new "Star Wars" movies that are coming out yearly now, and secretly think our generation which was the original movies were the best!

    1. Same, comic book characters (aside from Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead) weren't interesting to me. But if you like Star Wars, I think you will enjoy Thor: Ragnarok.

  4. The first two Thor movies were AWFUL but Ragnarok is in the top 3 Marvel movies...period...for me. I'm a Captain America girl...but Thor is pretty darn easy on the eyes...and he really is hilarious!

    1. I saw the first Thor movie after seeing Ragnarok and it was different but I didn't hate it. I mean, how can you be hating on something with Thor in it? ;)

  5. I'm further behind than you. I just don't watch these types of movies as I never really was into comics books. I've seen the first Spiderman (is that even Marvel), and I've seen Black Panther. We discovered Luke Cage on Netflix a couple years ago and have watched that, but I have to be honest, by 2-3 episodes in, I'm saying how dumb it is. I think my mind just doesn't get it.

    2. I loved it, but maybe more for the absolutely gorgeous cinematography. And the women power! I feel like I need to watch it again.

  6. Love the Marvel movies. If you like Thor, when you get to Infinity War the exchange between Quill and Thor is hysterical! Yep, I love the mix of humor and action in these movies. They're like chick flicks for people that don't dig chick flicks - aka mindless fun.

    1. OK I saw Infinity War over Christmas but I'm going to rewatch it because I was getting mixed up with some of the characters. It's starting to make more sense now, and I'll definitely look for that scene!

  7. My husband is a big fan so I have seen most of them and really enjoy them. The Guardians movies are my favorite but they all are good. You can usually get those shirts pretty cheap at Walmart.

    1. I did see the Guardian movies when they came out but I didn't connect them with Marvel. I know, that was pretty dumb...

  8. I’m like you— just wasn’t interested in action/ fight scenes. But hearing that it’s funny, I’m gonna have to watch it!

  9. My husband and daughter are both HUGE Marvel fans, so not only do I see all of them...I'm there at the theater on opening night with tickets that were purchased months in advance. Then, my husband buys each movie as soon as it is available to stream. There is usually a Marvel movie playing in our house every weekend. Thor is my absolute favorite character, but I also love Ant Man because Paul Rudd is just so funny. And the Guardians movies are fun too. The funny thing is that none of us ever go see a DC movie (except for Wonder Woman).

    1. I love this so much! I saw Ant Man and am a Paul Rudd fan as well - looking forward to seeing Ant Man and the Wasp. Agree about the Guardians movies...I saw them when they were in theaters but didn't make the comic book/Marvel connection back then.

  10. I've seen all of the Marvel movies - it's a thing that my 21 year old son and I have been doing for years now - he's my Marvel Movie Buddy. It started when I took him to see Spiderman when he was 5 and we just kept going! I personally believe that Chris Hemsworth is the most perfect male specimen - I mean...he's just flawless! I love all of the Marvel movies - I think they're great. :) Welcome to the club Shelley!
