Friday Mishmash (you know when I write it out I have no idea for a title, right?)

I'm beginning to think I need to buy Paco a doggie sweater - he's been shivering so much, even inside the house.  Maybe the cold is affecting him more as a senior citizen?  Lately he's happiest when I cover him up during the day - he'll stay like this for hours, and not even get up to follow me like he usually does:
I love that he sticks his feet out from under the blanket - I do the same thing at night.

And before you ask, I won't be knitting him a sweater.  I'm not that fast of a knitter and I don't think he is knit-worthy, to be honest.  But shhh, don't tell him.

I'm not sure why, but I've been losing quite a few of my succulents lately.  Currently on death row are these three:
The one on the left was so lush and full of greenery just a couple of months ago - I really have no idea why these are not doing well.  I still have quite a few alive, but in the last little while I've probably lost half a dozen or more plants.

I like to entertain myself by taking pictures, and I got some fun shots from above recently:
Leaving Arcata.
Flying into San Francisco - Golden Gate Bridge and Angel Island.
Stanford University in Palo Alto, just south of San Francisco.

On our next trip, I caught the sunset as we flew toward southern California:

It was really quite cool to fly west just as the sun was setting - I loved seeing a different perspective of the sunset...how often do you get to see one from above the clouds?

Have a great weekend!

  1. Since Chicago is so gray, especially in the winter, I when I'm flying and we get above the clouds. The sun! It's just the coolest thing. It never gets old.

Cocoa likes when I pull the blanket over her too. Crazy dogs!

  2. The star of your blog sure looks comfy and warm under his blanket. Paco has the right idea of how to hunker down in cold weather. I do that too stick one foot out from the under the blankets.

It looks like the weathermen got the forecast for cool/cold weather right for once. The high today is only supposed to be 69 which, is very strange considering we saw 86 yesterday. Not complaining since we are all tired of the heat and humidity.

    Have a great weekend!

  4. Paco must love his blankie! My first dachshund used to love to bury herself in a blanket, but none of my dachshunds since her have done that. Although Sophie does love it when I put a blanket over her when she is on my lap.

That picture you got of the Golden Gate bridge is super!

The succulents! They are so irritating to me. I had three in a pot, and the only one I really liked died. I will say that I put my two jade plants outside for the summer and they got sprinkled very lightly almost every day with all the other little trees, and they did so well! They're back inside now. Maybe a little outside vacation would make them feel better. Of course, with your weather, it might be hard to pick a good time.

    1. Jackie loved to burrow into blankets - she was the best little heater in bed!

I can't believe that just a few days after I took that picture of the Golden Gate, the air became so dense with smoke from the fire. Shocking how quickly things can go bad.

And you are correct, it's hard to figure out when to put succulents outdoors here because I've had them burn, freeze, and drown. But why die indoors, then? Dumb plants.

  5. What, Paco is not sweater worthy????? Since Baylee's fur never grew back in some spots after I shaved her back in May, I now have to put a doggie coat on her when it gets cold. I would love to have a sweater for her but it would have to be custom made I'm sure because even the ones that are labeled X-large do not fit a Labrador. Your SanFran pics are beautiful. I would love to see the Golden Gate bridge from either the sky or the ground!

  6. Aww, Paco looks so adorable under the blanket! I saw Aldi is selling animal coats! At least the ones here are :) I get why he is not homemade sweater worthy ;)

Did anything change in your house during the reno that would affect the succulents?

I love looking at cities (and the country) from above on a plane and trying to orient myself!!! So fun!

    1. Ooh, we have an Aldi but I've never been inside...I will have to check it out!

I think the succulents would have died several months ago had they been affected by the renovation - they were away from their sun source for a month, but other than dust, nothing else should have gotten to them. It's a mystery.

  7. You should get a little heated fleece blanket for Paco - I bet he would be in heaven! Is it cold by your windows? I wonder if temperature change is doing anything to your succulents.

    1. Paco loves laying on our bed when I have the heated mattress pad on. :)

It wasn't really cold by the windows when the plants started dying...I'm sad that one of my prettiest plants is gone.
