WWU - The Week That Wasn't...

Life, in the form of starting out exhausted thanks to the race on Sunday followed by the epic Ikea trip and panicked packing, just got in the way of running and going to the gym last week.  I wasn't even upset about it; it was a stressful week and the best thing for me was to not fret over trying to get my run in while I was so physically tired.

But on Saturday, I was set to run.  The weather was great - in the low 50s, with low humidity.  Although it took me about 20 minutes to find the water bottles for our hydration pack/belt that I put in a special place because I knew I'd need them, I still managed to get everything ready for the run.  Diane is training for the Silos Half Marathon in May, so she had 8 miles on tap.  She and Jeff met up extra early to run a 3 mile loop, and then the rest of the Renegades and I showed up to join them for our run.

Well, all of my stress got to me - it's not just the crazy week of the renovation, but some other issues, and I had been awake since 3:00 am, my stomach was a mess, and I maybe ran a mile with Jeff and Diane before deciding to walk.  I tried to get them to continue with their run, but they ended up walking back to the park with me, planning on running once I was back at my car - it was dark and they didn't want me roaming the streets alone, which was nice.  Unfortunately, as we were walking back on the sidewalk, Diane caught her toe on an uneven part and went flying - it was horrible to watch, almost slo-motion, as she fell face-first to the ground.  I thought for sure she'd hit her chin, but she managed to break the fall mostly with her forearms, so she really didn't even have any road rash.  She was super sore, of course, and worried about her Garmin because she felt it smash on the ground, but it wasn't scratched either - go Garmin!

That was it for all of us - we decided it was time to head on over to Blue Baker.  I texted the rest of the group to let them know, and we changed and left.  When Karen and Andi arrived, we found out that Andi had tripped and fallen as well!  She was in a different area, but how crazy that two of our runners fell that morning.  Her palms were scraped up but she was OK otherwise, thankfully.  Here's our two warriors:
They've fallen - but they CAN get up!

I was at the counter ordering our food while Jeff was at our table, chatting with our baker, Chris.  When I got to the table with our breakfast, I noticed that we didn't have any ciabatta bread, which was unusual.  Jeff showed me where it was:
It was still in the oven!  We were going to get fresh, warm-from-the-oven ciabatta bread this morning, woohoo!
Butter was procured by all, and when Chris handed us these lovely loaves, we dug in.  I usually don't bother with the extra bread, but I did this time...I mean, there's a time and a place for moderation, but warm-from-the-oven bread?  That is not the time.

One last item from our morning:
Mason showed his Renegade colors by continually snatching bacon from Loretta's plate - he knows what's good!  It was pretty cute to watch him enjoy bacon as much as the rest of us do.

  1. I blame the full moon on all the wipeouts. I hope things get better for you. I feel you on the stress and I'll be hitting the snowy streets this morning to try to run some of it off!

    1. Ah, I didn't connect the full moon, but you are right - it was out and maybe that caused the falls!

  3. Diane is a true runner - worry about the Garmin first and the rest later lol! Glad none of your trippers were seriously hurt. As I'm in the been there, done that club, I totally understand that shaken up feeling after a fall.

    1. I know, she was laying there fretting about her Garmin while Jeff and I were trying to see if she was bleeding!

  4. Your run just wasn't meant to be. Glad no one was hurt.

I'd skip a day of exercise to have breakfast with Mason! He's such a cutie!

    1. It really wasn't. I have to stop going on autopilot when it comes to running and listen to my body more.

Mason was very entertaining that morning, for sure!

  5. The older I get, the more falling is a BIG DEAL. I'm glad no one was hurt too bad. And bread fresh from the oven? That's a good reward for a tough morning. You're getting more exercise than ever with all the moving you've been doing!

    1. I agree - I was impressed that Diane used her forearms instead of her palms...less likely to break a wrist that way.

  6. Sometimes running reduces the stress and sometimes it just adds to it - good on you for knowing the difference! The road will be waiting there for you when you need it. Fresh bread is almost always a good thing, though, and you have to eat it before it's gone!

  7. Geesh! Poor Andi and Diane! No one was meant to run that day.

I hope you have slept better since then and the stress calmed down a bit!
