WWU - Paying To Feel Better

When we last spoke - well, I spoke and I'm assuming you all were listening intently - I was complaining about my dumb glute/hamstring issue.  I mentioned going to my chiropractor, which I'm not 100% behind as a general rule, but I have to admit, he looked at my posture and without me saying anything, immediately said my right side was twisted and as he gently poked at spots going down the side of my leg - "Does it hurt here? OW, yes.  Does it hurt HERE?  OW, yes.  How about here? OW yes."  So even my skeptical brain has to admit that he knows that he sees, and better still, he made me feel better.  I need to not let two and a half years go by between visits; I was a little mad at myself for letting it get that bad when I could have been running without pain had I just taken care of myself a little better.  I let the cost of going to the chiropractor deter me from going, and that's just silly considering how much better I felt after only one visit.

The day after my chiro visit, I ran 2 miles with Diane, and my glute/hamstring didn't bother me at all until I was at mile 1.75 - and even then, it wasn't nearly as bad as it's been.  So that was promising!  On Saturday, I decided to only run 3 miles, just because I didn't want to push that glute/hamstring area too much.  I had a good run, and I have to say, after nearly three months of hurting with every step, I'm really pleased with this.  Plus, now that I can move better, I can get a fuller range of motion with my hamstring stretches, so hopefully this is the beginning of the end of this pain.

Afterward, Jeff and I had to skedaddle home to open up the house for the tile guy; we changed there and then headed out to Blue Baker, where the rest of the Renegades soon showed up.  I got to hold Logan while his parents ordered breakfast, and that sweet baby immediately laid his cheek on my cheek:
He's the best hugger - he stayed like this for a long time.

Eventually I shared him with Jimmymeow, and he leaned into him, too:
We all pretty much promise him the world when he does this - how can you not?!
Karen got him next - Logan loves to play with her pretty fingernails!
A little naptime with Mom...

And then he was awake, refreshed, and full of energy.  Standing on the chair was super fun!  Plus he kept looking at his bare feet, almost like HEY WHERE DID THESE COME FROM?  Babies are much better than any TV show when it comes to the pure entertainment of watching them.

  1. Sounds like your chiropractor has magic hands! Much like that baby...

  2. Wow, good news about the chiropractor. And I'm glad you're limiting the distance of your runs--3 miles is actually a good distance any day, any time! But once again, Logan has stolen the show!

    1. I would like to get back to running 5 miles for my long run on Saturdays, but I'm also good with three...heck, I'd love to just run without any aches. And yes, Logan steals the show, but how can he not??

  3. I wish I could find a chiropractor I can trust. My experiences with them have not been good.
That baby!!! I just want to squish his chubby little cheeks. I wonder if playing with a baby lowers blood pressure? It has to!

    1. You can see everyone's happiness level rise when Logan is around - so I'm sure that goes to lowering BP as well. :)

  4. I'm really curious what the chiropractor did that helped your hamstring/glute! My right one has been noticeably weaker with a little bit of soreness for a while - not enough to affect my training, thankfully, but something I want to look into now that I'm done. I'm glad whatever it was helped! :)

And oh my goodness THAT BABY! I'd promise him the world too. What a cutie!

  7. After going to the same chiro for years for neck and lower back issues, I finally realized he wasn't helping me long term. So I've started going to a new one and he's been so amazing. I too deal with hamstring issues (mostly my own fault because I don't stretch after working out), so going to the chiro along with making myself stretch for at least 10 minutes before I go to bed has helped a lot. So keep on with those stretches, lady! :-)

  9. I am so glad the chiro helped! YAY!!! That's great! Is that something people go to once a month or more? I do massage once a month but would love to have it weekly. Or daily. Ha!
