Friday Mishmash

File this under "someone's trying to tell me something" - twice now, I've tried to buy a little Fossil wallet at the gift shop where I volunteer.  I've been wanting something small to carry my ID, cash, and a credit card or two, when we're out and about, like when we were walking all over the Riverwalk in San Antonio, or when we're at race expos - Fossil makes one that would fit into the front pocket of my jeans, and since I get a discount at the gift shop, I might as well buy it there, right?  And since Rosalie and I get to order the Fossil wallets, purses, and now jewelry for the gift shop, I picked out exactly what I wanted.

Well, the one that I liked from the springtime line didn't come in looking like the picture from their website - it had a floral print with a big hot pink splash of color on it, but the one that came to the gift shop was mostly peach, with a dime-sized bit of hot pink.  Cute enough, but not what I wanted, so I didn't buy it.  No worries, a customer bought it.  Then a few weeks ago, I got to place another order, and among everything, I chose a bunch of those tiny wallets in all kinds of colors, with one specifically for me.  Guess what came in yesterday?  Pretty much everything EXCEPT for the one I wanted.  Seriously??  I'm trying to support the gift shop, but Fossil is not making it easy for me.  Sheesh!

I walked outside to take a picture of my dying/dead lavender plant to show my mom, when I saw Henners looking extra cute, just lying under the Sago palm plant:
He's taking cover under the shade of the palm leaves - smart kitty!

The greenery in the pot next to the palm is weeds, I think - nothing was there, and then suddenly all that green stuff came up.  I'd pull it, but hey - it's green, and I don't have anything else to put in that pot, so we're just gonna go with it.
Here's the lavender - is it dead?  Dying?  Should I leave it - will it reseed/come back next year?  (p.s. hey mom, here's the picture...I don't think I actually ever sent it to you)

I just realized that most bloggers show you what's blooming in their gardens, but here I am showing you what's dying.  Welcome to summertime in Texas - it's hard on plants!  Here's another example:
This was a red day lily.  The yellow/orange ones always seem to survive the summer heat and continue to bloom off and on, but this red one blooms for about a week in the springtime and then looks like this.  We really need to find something better for this spot.

Come back next week for more of what's dying in my garden!  Haha, kidding - I hope.

File this under "a little creepy" -  Kip would not stop licking my fingers the other day, so naturally I had to document it:
I don't get you, Kippers.

********************

Paco has been busy going on Pokewalks in the evening with us, which he loves, especially when he catches one:
Paco found an Oddish - good boy!
And then, this is him for the rest of the evening - out cold.  I think we're maybe only walking about a mile, but he is exhausted afterward.  It's a far cry from when Jeff used to ride the bike with Paco pulling him by the leash, for a mile, at full speed...oh, my aging dog.

A hot weekend is in store for not just Texas, but the entire country - all we're going to do is our usual run, breakfast, and then shelter in place in the air conditioning.  Stay cool, peeps!

Have a great weekend!

  1. I don't play Pokemon Go but am intrigued by what it's all about. I saw kids outside my gym playing it this week!
Perhaps the fall line of fossil watches will have one that you like (and will actually come in the shipment)!

  2. My poor plants look like yours. It's not as dry here...I just do not have a green thumb! 😋

  3. Fossil is my favorite handbag! I must confess, the one I'm carrying now is probably 6 years old? Let's not think about those germs... I've been ignoring my yard lately but looked out there this week and saw I have a Calla Lily blooming from a plant my oldest son gave me 15 years ago for Mothers Day. It is never bloomed before. Hmm...

    1. Fossil bags and wallets last a long time! There are so many cute styles...luckily I can talk myself out of buying them 99% of the time and just enjoy changing up the displays at the gift shop instead.

Pretty cool about that Calla Lily blooming now!

  4. My lavender has come back the past two years without me doing anything to it. Maybe yours will reseed. I'd still water the soil occasionally to keep the seeds moist.

    1. I am still watering that plant, and only feeling a little foolish doing it - but hey, if it will help it to reseed, then OK. :)

  5. My plants are dying too. It's been a hot summer in the NE.

  6. "Shelter in Place" LMAO! I've been surprised at how many plants and flowers just keep going even with the awful heat/humidity. But you know patio pots are a challenge - they just need extra care even when it's normal weather, whatever that is. I can't help you with your lavendar because my thumb is so brown I'm always just excited when something grows!

I just got back from a HHFH run - hot, humid, freaking hard. I think we're all having the sort of temps that make runners wonder if it's even worth it lol!

  7. I guess I need to check out the pokemon phenomenon.

You know how you said the cats being at peace might mean one of them was dying? Well for a split second I saw the word dying right above the picture of Henry, and about had a heart attack. That is a great picture of him.

I have to agree--the picture of Kip is oddly creepy. I could just see a twilight zone episode where the cat is licking and licking someone's finger, and suddenly, he just bites the finger off!

Poor Paco. I know just how he feels :)

    1. I don't actually know what to do with these Pokemon creatures, but as long as we're out walking, I figure I might as well catch some, LOL.

  8. I actually love the picture of Kip licking your finger - crazy cat! Yep, that used to be our Ed - when he was young I could jog two miles with him no problem, but then as he got older 1/4 mile walk would make sleep for hours aftewards!

  9. Cocoa is not fond of looking for Pokemon because it takes all the attention away from her. Yep, she's all about herself...

  11. Aww, good job Paco!!! :)

LOL @ Kip - salty fingers, maybe?!

And I can't wait to see what is dying in your garden next week! We've had SO little rain here this summer. Definitely nothing like the drougth you have in TX, but VERY dry for us!

    1. I hope my "what's dying" report doesn't look too bad next week, but dang, it's freaking HOT, like air dryer blowing hot, today.

  12. Our old cat use to go crazy over our ears. I think she liked ear wax or something. Kind of gross and very strange LOL. She would also lick my eyelids.

I have some plants that look like that. Interestingly enough, they are lavender! I got some on clearance at Lowe's for $1, so I figured I wouldn't be out much if they didn't make it. I actually am going to keep them in the ground because the root system might still be good even if the top died.

    1. Hmmm, maybe lavender just dies out in the summer, no matter what part of the country you live in?

  13. LOL at what's dying in my garden :)

Just keep walking with Paco to catch Pokemons, the exercise is good for him and he'll get used to it. Love it that you take him on your Pokemon catching.

Your pets are lovely as always.

  14. Hello! I just found your blog and I'd just like to say that you've got a kindred spirit up here in British Columbia. Weight loss journey (did it once, and sadly must do it again starting today), fitness journey, same age (55) long-time happy marriage (36 years, almost), blogger, searching for the perfect little pouch to carry stuff when out in walks/hikes/bike rides. Since I dont always have pockets, I'm looking for a pouch that I can sling across my body that's big enough to hold my phone and driver's licence and *no bigger*, lol. Think I'm gonna give up the search and just sew one. Should I sew one for you, too?

    1. Thanks for the offer, Nita - sounds like you are quite creative! I just shove my phone into a magnetic pouch when I need to run/walk with it (it's called the Running Buddy Pouch if you're interested). Glad you commented - your blog looks so interesting!
