Friday Mishmash

Aha!  I knew if I waited long enough, Marathon Photo would drop their prices on the Houston race pictures!  I was able to get three downloads from the race (and I didn't have to deal with any exorbitant shipping prices either) and now I can get them printed at Walgreens for a reasonable cost.  Here's what I bought:
CC, me, and Julia, getting close to the starting line - apparently I was SUPER PREPARED as I have my hand on my Garmin, ready to push the start button, ha!
Crossing the finish line, woohoo!!  One final round of JAZZ HANDS!
Right after we'd been medaled - you can better believe we stopped for an official picture!

Recently, I placed an order with Tervis for some gifts, and I needed to add to my order to get free shipping, so I treated myself to a new water tumbler:
I love mermaids, and this felt especially perfect for water.  Makes me happy to see it, and I've been really good about drinking and refilling it several times during the day.

I just realized that the same issue I have with the price of postage stamps has transferred to paying for shipping.  I fully admit that nothing irks me more than paying 49 cents for a freaking stamp.  I remember when they were 8 cents - not that I was buying them back then, but I was aware of the price because I had a pen pal and my Mom gave me stamps for my letters.  Which is why I pay my bills online or via auto-draft, because I'll be damned if I'm going to pay nearly 50 cents to pay a stinking bill!  LOL, can you tell I'm fun to live with?  Maybe the price of stamps wouldn't irritate me quite so much if we actually got our mail in a reasonable time frame, but our local postal service is pretty bad...the local news did a story about it a couple of months ago because so many people were complaining.  And don't get me started on when you order something from Amazon, they ship it UPS, only to turn it over to the USPS for local delivery, which adds an extra three days - grrr!  But I do like that I get free shipping with Amazon (our son shares his Prime account with us), so I'm a little spoiled when it comes to paying for shipping.

Wait a minute...is this a Friday Mishmash post or a Cranky Shelley post?  Hard to tell at this point!

Jeff got our new faucet installed on Sunday, with a minimum of angst and cussing - not bad considering the fittings were rusted and he was working on his back inside of a tiny kitchen cabinet.  I just want you to know that I suffered too - I had to hold the flashlight and hand him various wrenches that didn't fit and brace the faucet - it wasn't easy for me, either.  But we (hah, notice how I'm taking credit now?) got it done, and this was the result:
Oooh!  Aaaah!  So pretty!  The faucet came with a new liquid soap dispenser, so we (the royal) put that in as well.

It has a pull down sprayer, but the spray is SUPER COOL.  Looks normal from this angle, right?
Check.this.out.  It's like a figure eight!  I don't know why it thrills me so, but obviously it's the little things in life that make my day.

Have a great weekend!  We are doing a local race tomorrow - weather should be great so here's hoping I can just run and not freak out beforehand.

  1. Wow - spiffy faucet! You do know this will be the start to a whole kitchen remodel, right? :D

I hear you with shipping. The dumb thing they do here when it gets transferred over to the post office is then it goes from Albany - and hour away - over to Connecticut and back adding stupid time. I would rather they just tell me it's in Albany and I will get the damn package myself. Or worse, when the PO gets the box and then it goes on a trip around the country for whatever reason. I'll check tracking and see it went from NY down to Baltimore or something. WTF?? No wonder the postal service is going bankrupt.

I use Snapfish for photos. They are always running deals and you can get large prints for really cheap.

    1. Seriously - does this comment make any sense? I've had 2 cups of coffee, too. I'm mortified that my job involves good grammar and typing skills.

    2. Well, as you saw from last week's FMM, I did go there with regard to a kitchen redo, but then remembered that I haven't won the lottery, so that was a no go, sadly. :( :( :(

Agree with Helen on cracking up at your comment - it was all over the place, just like the postal service!

  2. I could crank right along with you re: postage. It irks.

OMG I have faucet jealousy. We need a new kitchen faucet and I just told Mr. Helen I really want one with a pull down sprayer. Of course, now I've gone down the rabbit hole of maybe a whole new sink...

    1. I thought I could do a new farmhouse sink (in STAINLESS, so pretty) but we'd have to cut our countertop and have raw edges showing, so that wouldn't work. Plus I want granite or something nicer than the formica that's currently there...the kitchen remodel rabbit hole is very expensive!

  3. I hear ya on shipping costs and stamps! I share my prime account with my kids and every now and then my suggested items are so random and so not me. My son is a techy while my daughter will be searching for cosplay stuff. Now I have some of the oddest suggested items come up that I'm like where is my crafty stuff!!

    1. Haha, I know what you mean on the Amazon suggestions!

  4. So sharing your prime account? How does that work? I could share mine with my mom maybe.

LOL on all the shipping furor. I actually like our USPS here. They are usually pretty speedy. Unless they lose a package. AND THEN THEY COULD CARE LESS. Oh, okay. Anyway, my thing with Amazon Prime is that TWO DAYS. Can you count Amazon? I don't care which shipping service you choose, YOU are the ones responsible for getting it to me in two days. Ahhh. That feels better :)

Love your race photos. Cool that you could wait and get a better deal on them.

And I would be fascinated with your faucet shower sprayer too! Does it come out straight, in not a spray? It looks like there might be a button on the back for that?

    1. Check your settings - Sam did it so I don't exactly know how it works, and he's the one who gets the free movie rentals, but that's OK...I'll take free Prime.

I hear that if you don't get your package in two days from Amazon, if you call and complain they'll make amends - not sure how, especially if you didn't pay for that particular shipping (because Prime), but it might be worth a shot.

The water does come out in a regular stream, but I like the sprayer - feels like I'm pressure-washing my pots and pans, LOL! And yes, there's a button on the back to switch back and forth.

  5. I've been getting Tervis emails like crazy this week. So much so that I am going to have to unsubscribe even if that means not getting their lousy 10 percent off my purchase...lol. Yay for a discount on race pics. I need them to offer that on my Disney races!!!

    1. Tervis does send out a ridiculous amount of emails, don't they? I click "mark as spam but do not unsubscribe" - that way, I don't have to see their messages, but if I want to buy something, I can easily find their latest one in my spam folder and get whatever discount they are currently offering. I do this for a lot of online businesses. Helps keep my inbox clearer, plus I'm not tempted to buy things I really don't need but suddenly look so tempting with their email!

  6. That figure 8 is schweet! I am happy the install went well :)

Another blogger asked about sharing Prime - now they have it limited to certain family members. You used to be able to share with up to four people, I think! A few people use my account.

I am annoyed lately with Amazon giving packages to USPS, but only because we don't have a mailbox and I have to drive to the PO to pick it up. Ha! UPS would deliver if it stayed with them :)

Sorry your PO is not one of the good ones :( That is super frustrating.

    1. See? That's why Amazon needs to stick with just UPS - I'd be so annoyed if I had to drive to the Post Office!

  7. Great photos. I hate when they are so expensive.

Nice faucet. My kitchen needs updating but my hubby is NOT handy.

  8. Great photos of the race - and that faucet is awesome!

  9. I want a new faucet for my kitchen so badly. But you know, I have a husband...

I have never run a race where they lowered the price of race photos. I hope that's a trend...

    1. I wonder if lowering the race photo price is becoming a trend because most people don't buy them when they are so expensive? This was pretty quick - less than a month after the race.

  10. That's a very pretty faucet, totally understand that you're happy with it.

    Love the race photos!

Since my country is so small, almost everything you order is delivered the next day. Some even if you order for noon deliver it the same night. And most of them offer free shipping costs or it's free if you spend a certain amount of money.

    1. I can't imagine getting whatever I ordered the next day (well, without paying a lot of money in shipping, anyway). Lucky you!

  11. I love the race pics!! Um, holding the flashlight is probably the most important part of any plumbing project, so definitely take most of the credit :D
