Friday Mishmash

This, as most bloggers can attest, is a thing of beauty to see:
I'm trying to not be so lackadaisical about writing my posts, and lately I've had several ideas that I've actually followed through with and written about.  Go me!

It's been killing me to not have a sock project going on my needles, but I really wanted to make some more progress on the shawl I started a month ago.  Plus I needed to knit a hat for someone who is experiencing hair loss thanks to chemo, so naturally that took priority.  Here's the shawl - as I knit each round, I'm increasing the stitches, so it's taking longer and longer to do:
I pinned it out so you can see the design...it's coming along, but I suspect it won't be finished for a while.

And here's the hat.  I was in a quandary trying to choose a pattern; something about it being a chemo cap was throwing me, and I tried to find one that wouldn't be too warm, should she want to wear it indoors, and not too tight, but not too loose, either, considering that with no hair there was less volume to take up space.  Finally decided that I was overthinking it (and really, I'm sure I was more disturbed by why I was having to knit it than anything else - cancer sucks) and I went with a tried-and-true pattern that I've knitted before:
This is Jen's New Sweetie Pie Hat, using Madelinetosh Vintage yarn in Baroque Violet.  About halfway finished in this picture.

I have to say, the comments from Monday's post were pretty great.  Not only did I learn a lot from you guys as to what your unfavorable trendy things are, but I realized that there's even more things I can't get on board with - to wit:
  • goat cheese
  • beets
  • ponchos
  • dystopian novels
  • reverse French manicures (I never knew there was a name for this, but yes)
I also have to say, that back in my early teen years I did wear a poncho (and I'm pretty sure I might have paired it with guachos, which was quite the look).  Not sure why they've made a comeback, but we had them for sale in the gift shop at the hospital, and they sold out quickly.  Anyway, that was fun and I love the interaction between you guys in the comments - thanks for participating!

This will probably only be funny to runners, but the other night, several of us got together to surprise Cary with a belated birthday celebration.  Throughout the evening, everyone kept commenting on how nice each other's hair was - you see, we normally only see each other when our hair is in a ponytail, or under a cap, and it's always a morning hair/sweaty hair combination...never a good look.  We took a picture to document this rare occasion:
A little grainy as it was dark and we were sitting outside, but you get the idea.  Also, we were sitting on high chairs, so I stayed seated for the picture, as I would have been shorter had I been standing...and yet, I'm still the shortest one in the group, LOL!

Rainy weekend is forecast for us - and yet, we'll still be out there running.  Crazier than usual, but hey, why not?  Have a great weekend!

  1. Y'all look so nice. Beets and Goat Cheese are definitely not for me. I love ponchos though! It's like wrapping myself up in a big old blanket and it being acceptable to walk outside in it.

  2. Are you guys getting rain from that Pacific hurricane? And do you know WE are getting rain from that by the end of next week?!!

Hmmmm, I do love a roasted beet and goat cheese salad. YUM. I do not however like the beets my mom used to make. I think maybe from a can and then thickened with like a beet gravy. GROSS!

You are so sweet to make that hat and I'm sure the recipient will love it.

    1. We are actually getting a rain event (with some flooding) from gulf moisture...and now Patricia will be adding to it, apparently. How crazy to see that storm go from west coast to east coast - hopefully by the time it hits you it won't be too strong!

My dad likes a roasted beet salad at a certain restaurant in his town - bet it has goat cheese on it as well. You both can have that! ;)

  3. Such pretty colors for your shawl and hat. You guys clean up nice for your group picture of "good hair"
I hope your just getting rain from that storm and no wind or flooding. I guess you have to train even in the rain. At least it won't be too hot right?

    1. It's weird to do a long run in the rain - it won't be hot, and I don't think it will be cold, but I wonder if we'll get chilled before it's all over? We will find out!

    2. I ran a 20-miler in a hurricane while training for MCM. We thought we could get through it before the worst of the wind and rain but ended up in soaking downpours. The minute you stop, you will be chilled to the bone. Have dry backup clothes waiting!

    3. I'm definitely going to pack dry clothes, top to bottom, for this run!

  4. I really like goat cheese! Really any kind of cheese. I don't like beets.

John and I get that at our cafe on the rare times we are at breakfast after a shower instead of after having biked there. The "we clean up nice" kind of thing LOL!

I love the colors of the yarn in that shawl.

  6. OMG, totally remember wearing these red gaucho pants with a red and white checked shirt and a red turtleneck underneath and I thought that I as the bomb.com wearing that outfit!

Sorry, but I don't think there is a cheese I don't like, and goat cheese is one of them :D

    Happy Running in the Rain!

  7. That is so nice of you to knit a cap for your friend that is going through chemo.

I definitely get excited when I have blog ideas for all week and even more excited when I actually write them down. Have a good weekend!

    1. Seems like so many of my blog ideas come during a long run, and I promptly forget them by the time I finish, so I look at this as a massive victory, LOL!

  8. Oops. I commented inside my head but forgot to write it down :) Yes, that is why I like goat cheese--it goes so well with the roasted beet salad :)

The scheduled posts--I know the lovely feeling that gives you. Plus, the fact that you had that many ideas to write about!

LOVE your shawl, pattern and colors. And the hat is gorgeous. I have to remember to look for that color--beautiful.

  10. It's so sweet of you to knit a hat for the person that has to go through chemo. You are so sweet.

You know the F1 was in Austin yesterday and these days there's a very young talented Dutch driver that is in the competition. The qualification was postponed to Sunday and would be at 3 pm our time. When it got around 3 pm R. got nervous and asked me if I could ask my friend in Texas if it was still raining. You know the rest of the story LOL

Must be weird to be running in the rain instead of all the humidity you had lately.
