Friday Mishmash

Hey, did you hear about the latest skinny app for photos?  It's really effective:
Hmmm, I guess it might still need some work - it only made the top half of our bodies skinny.
Take two - nope, now just the bottom half is skinny.

Hair growth app:
Makes your hair long but there are unfortunate side effects to the body...

OK, this one just made me laugh because Barbara's giant hair and glasses makes her look like a mind reader:
Funhouse mirror exhibit at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History - we entertained ourselves for quite a while there!

I've been doing a lot of knitting lately, and Paco has been doing an excellent job of keeping me company.  Sure, it might look like he's napping, but he's near me, so that counts, right?  Usually he sleeps under the footstool, but this week he picked the couch.  You know how they say babies looks so cute when they're asleep?  I think dogs do, too:
It slays me when he puts his head on a pillow to sleep!
Sunlight!  Must move toward it...
I call this one "chicken legs" - I think he calls it "stop waking me up with all the picture taking"...

Speaking of knitting, my citrus shawlette is finished!  I soaked it in a special wool wash and then pinned it out on foam boards to straighten it out and also open up the lacework on the edge (this is called blocking):
On the guest bed - took less than a day to dry.
On me - I love it!  Too bad it was 90 degrees when we took this picture.  Here's hoping the weather will cool down soon so I can actually wear it (and long sleeves, too).

I think the leaf design on the edge came out really nice - I could see them developing while I knit, but it took blocking for them to really pop out clearly:
 Leafy...

We have 9 miles on tap for tomorrow.  Then Blue Baker, then a nap, because (honestly a nap probably would have happened anyway) Jeff won tickets to the A&M-Ole Miss game, which doesn't start until 8:00 pm.  Considering we wake up at 4:00 am on Saturdays, this is going to be a long day - but I'm excited about getting to go to the game!

Have a great weekend!

  2. Your shawl is so beautiful. Paco is so cute. Have fun with your running this weekend you got this!
If you haven't already checked out this new knitting book you must you will love it. "Knockout Knits" by Laura Nelkin. I might just end up buying this one her designs are lovely. Lots of shawls in this book like I say you will love it. Have a great weekend. I am still working on my endless sweater but now I am tempted to cast on something new:)

    1. I've heard of Laura Nelkin and will have to check out her book for sure.

So you only have one project going? If I have a big one, I like to have a smaller one as well...sometimes I need to see more progress than what comes with something like an endless sweater (that term is a perfect descriptor, btw).

  4. Oh google accounts you do baffle me, here's hoping 3rd time is the charm with me commenting. I think the shawl is beautiful and I love the color. Paco is a very handsome boy. AND, go Aggies, beat the. Rebels. Of course I won't be rooting for the Aggies on Nov. 15.

    1. Ach, sorry for the comment trouble - glad this one made it through! It will be fun to have Missouri in town on Nov. 15 - with the SEC still being new-to-us, it's a different crowd and so far, really enjoyable.

  5. I wish my part-time job employers would hire you to make shawlettes for us to wear instead of the dumb black and white penguiny scarves they give us lol! And, yet another reason you should be visiting me in CT - you could definitely wear that after sun down right now ;)

Getting up at 4 then running 9 miles would cause me to not only take a nap but also to drink a large coffee around 4 in the afternoon if I needed to be awake in the evening. Have fun at the football game!

Good idea on the afternoon coffee - we will have to stop at Starbucks for a caffeine infusion!

  6. Good luck with your 9 miles! I'm doing 9 on Sunday, squeezing it in while watching my friends run the Chicago Marathon. Are we on the same training schedule, and I'm just now noticing it?

And awwwww, Paco :) Dogs are really adorable when they're sleeping.

    1. What race are you training for? We must be close on our schedule, although I think our training lasts for more weeks than yours?

  7. Okay, I'm looking at all those pictures at the top, and thinking--that is a lame app--those look like funhouse mirror pictures. LOL. Paco is such a handsome boy. LOL at the head on the pillow and moving to the sun. His short-legged cousin does that too.

And the shawlette!!! Gorgeous out flat, and even prettier on you. I can't imagine even trying that on in 90 degrees! And it looks really pretty on the teal shirt.

Good luck on the 9 miles--eek! Just keep thinking about that cinnamon twist waiting for you! The game--even I know that that is an important game! Must have been in a movie sometime. Have fun, and I second Helen's suggestion of a 4pm coffee!

    1. I suspect that there really is a funhouse mirror app ("there's an app for that!") but those were real pictures.

Thanks for the compliment on the shawlette AND for the great advice on the shirt color! I brought it to knitting guild last night and got a lot of ooohs and aaahs over it. :)

You know, I think 9 miles means that Jeff and I should each get our own cinnamon twist. And heck yes to that afternoon coffee - it's gonna happen for sure!

  12. Wow, Shelley, GORG scarf! Amazing. And I like the color with your top. Great combo. I also like how you arranged/are wearing the scarf.
Paco & the thought bubbles his Ma gives him just crack me up.!
I can almost hear you 3 laughing at your goofy images in those mirrors. I would be quite entertained myself.
Well congrats on your win, Jeff. (Tickets) Have fun!
    Hope your run went well.
Tomorrow Jillian Michaels is coming to my town for an event. I'm looking forward to seeing her in person. She's been kicking my butt for 6 years now. Ha

  15. Love the shawl! Very pretty.

Love the photo's of Paco, isn't it funny how dogs always search for the sun to lie in? Bella always lays on the couch next to me. She was always in the other corner but lately she comes more to me and lay down next to me, that will be nice and warm when winter comes :)

Hope you had a good run and a great game.
