Friday Mishmash

A happy Paco update:  I have to tell you that after years of him suffering with seasonal allergies that became year-round allergies, we've finally hit on something that is working.  It's a new prescription pill called Apoquel, and it's like we have a new dog.  Paco is so happy and energetic now - I knew he was miserable with the allergies, despite everything (diet changes, steroid injections and pills, Benadryl, cortisone cream, special shampoo) we tried, but I had no idea he had so much life left in him - he's running around and is as playful as he was when we first got him, nearly eight years ago!
I called him over to get a picture but he got distracted by the ceiling fan.  Sill, look at the inside of his ears - they aren't red!  Amazing stuff, this Apoquel.

I did a double take when I saw this at Sam's Club a while ago:
A 50s-style microwave oven.  Something seems a bit odd about this...

Something that has been around for a while is a t-shirt folder.  Not what anyone needs, per se, but it was definitely a want for this neatnik.  One belated birthday gift from my kid later, and this was the result:
FOLD ALL THE THINGS!!!

I love this contraption!  It's pretty amazing to see the amount of clothes I can fit on my shelves - I should have taken a before picture but I was too excited to get started.  Just know that the bottom shelf was stacked to the top with less shirts - I added some that were on hangers once I realized I had so much room.

And while we're in my closet, I got a frame for the photo that I bought of Capitola, and hung it up along with my cool surfboard hook:
So cute!  I have a thing for hooks, obviously.

Knitting update:  I've nearly finished with my citrus shawlette - it was surprising to me how fast this one went, even with the leaf design on the edge.  I should have a picture of me wearing it next week, but wanted to pin it out a bit so you could see it now:
Am deeply in love with this piece - one of the most satisfying knits I've done.

Remember that super sweet pink baby sweater I made last year for my friend's first girl baby?  Well, that baby just turned one, and look at what her mama did for her:
Abby wearing the sweater, with her dolly wearing a matching sweater (and skirt, too).  Love it!

I'm working on some other projects but they are top secret (read:  Christmas gifts) so I can't divulge too much.  I needed some yarn for these projects, which isn't sold within 100 miles of me, so rather than order it online, I called the knitting shop in Pacific Grove,  Monarch Knitting, that I liked so much.  Their customer service was excellent - I was trying to coordinate two colors and the woman I spoke with actually took a picture of the yarn and emailed it to me so I could see it together:
Tosh Merino Light in Mandala and Begonia Leaf - this is going to be so much fun to knit!

Have a great weekend!

  2. Call me silly but I'm sitting her with tears in my eyes because I'm so happy for Paco and for you for having a happy dog. As a dog lover and one of Paco's biggest fans I couldn't be happier. What a great way to start my weekend in a couple of hours.

Wow girl, I thought I was organized but you definitely beat me to it. Look how neat and clean your tshirt closet is. Love it!

Ah the girl and her doll are adorable. My mom used to dress me and my 4 year younger sister in the same too when we were kids. It looks adorable on photo's.

  4. Did Paco have "hot spots" on his body? Our lab use to get them every summer and we were told it was allergies. She didn't get them this year and we didn't do anything different with her. Oh how I hate to see our dogs hurt or uncomfortable! Oh, and many years ago I use to work at the GAP and we had a T-shirt folder! I got so good at it that I could fold shirts that same way without the folder. You bet I folded my shirts at home like that too!

    1. His entire body was a hot spot - it was really bad.

I first saw a T-shirt folder at a store and that's when I started wanting one!

  5. Hooray for relief for Paco (and you too, I imagine)!

The shawl looks so delicate and pretty - almost more like crochet than knitting.

I'm pretty sure those photos confirm that I am definitely jealous of your closet! As I said in my post yesterday, mine looks like something exploded in there.

  7. Look at you go on the knitting! Of course you know I LOVElovelove the last picture of yarn. Yummy. Any your shawlette is so pretty, especially seeing it knit in that vibrant yarn!

And the t-shirt folder? You've about got me hooked! That is an impressive looking closet there.

The 50's microwave oven? Yes, people. They did not have microwaves in the 50's. Well, they did, but they did not look like that. However, if they made a retro toaster oven in blue, I would be very interested in that :)

Ooh, and I love the blue frame. Good choice!

And you know, I do believe I've seen retro toasters in colors! Kitchen present??

  8. Aw, glad to hear about Paco! Nice to have your puppy back. I've taken over Hannah's room as my closet, and it's a disaster - I need some of yours (and Hannah's!) organizational skills! Happy Friday!

    1. An entire room for a closet? That would be too easy to get out of hand...too much space!

  9. Oh, I so want that t-shirt thingie! I've seen demos a couple of times and it's an amazing tool. Unfortunately, it's not a "must" item, so I've back-burnered it for now.

Good news for Paco! Hope it keeps working!

    1. I tried to broker a deal with a friend who also wanted the T-shirt thingie - I'd buy one for her and she'd buy one for me...that way neither of us would have spent money on one, just spent it on a gift. Never got her convinced, so a birthday list item it became. :)

  10. Hoooray for Paco!! It is so hard when there is a problem with our babies. So glad there is something working!

And I guess I didn't realize you are supposed to fold t-shirts? I just stuff them in drawers LOL

    1. I think I wouldn't mind it so much if they were stored in drawers...but out in the open like in my closet? Neatly folded and stacked makes my brain much happier. :)
