Wednesday Workout Update

Remember when I said that I set my phone alarm every evening so I'd remember to do my planks and floor stretching?  Well, more often than not, my helper is right by my side:
I use my phone's stopwatch as a timer, and when I hit 45 seconds on the plank, I took this picture.  That Paco, he's such a team player.  "Mom plank?  OK, I plank too."

I was very surprised to get an email from the race director last Friday, saying that they had one race jacket left over in a size large, if I wanted to exchange my medium.  You know I jumped on that offer quickly!  At least I can wear it now and not look and feel like a stuffed sausage:
The bonus was that I got it in a different color - they lost most of their larger sizes due to a printing error and when they tried to reorder, the black color was sold out, so they went with this (which I think they should have done in the first place).  I'm much happier with this fit; I just wish my running buddies were able to get this color, too.

I had a great run on Saturday - in fact, we all did.  Jeff ran with Kasey and Andi - they did 5:1 intervals.  I ran with Amy, Julia and Becky, and we did 1:1 intervals, but we were running much faster than normal.  Around the 1.5 mile mark, Amy looked at me with big eyes like "holy cow, are we really doing this??" - I thought for sure I'd lose my momentum, but it never happened and we ran and chatted our way through five miles, with each one getting a little faster!  It was a good confidence-building run, just in time for our half marathon this Sunday.  We'll be in Sugarland (and I can't help but think that Buddy the Elf would love the sound of that) for the USAFit Half Marathon.  The weather is looking good for Sunday and this should be a fun way to close out my long distance running for a while.  Plus we'll get to see our young runner, Love, officially complete her first half marathon - she's had to be patient and train for seven months to get there - quite a feat for an eleven-year-old!

  1. Bonjour Shelley,

    Nice to hear from you!

Wow you are a star! I couldn't do what you do!
You look great in your race outfit.

    Good luck for the race!

  2. OK, I'm cracking up that the director is still calling that a jacket. Whatever. You got a better size and color and that's all that matters. Good luck on your half this weekend - here's to minimal pain and no blisters!

  3. Woohooooooooo for a great run! Good luck next Sunday but I'm sure we'll be in touch before that so I probably will say it a few times more.

This "jacket" at least looks better than the first one. But like Helen I still don't think it's a jacket. I was trying running jackets on at work this morning :) We sometimes sell specialties in our DIY stores and they are thinking about some running clothes. I didn't like all of it (the fabrics of the shirt sucked) but the jacket felt good and worth buying. It's nameless though but that will make it not expensive.

Oh I love love love Paco. I would love to meet him someday. After Bella he's the cutest and sweetest dog I know.

    1. I have to say, I cracked up at seeing the picture of Paco - I mean, I know he's there when I'm planking, but to see that perspective, and the look on his face...

    2. He looks like he's saying: "planking? I don't need that, I can easily win the sexiest hottest dog alive contest" :)

  4. Awwww, Paco! That's pretty much what Jude does when I'm down on the floor too :)

I like the new "jacket!" Much better color, and glad it fits better. That's one thing that is tough about race shirts, sizing seems to be all over the place, and not nearly enough races have the option to exchange (I mean, I know why they don't, but still, can't everything just fit me perfectly?!)

That's a great run on Saturday! I find myself sometimes going slower because I'm chatting, that's awesome you were speeding up.

    1. We usually go slower when we chat, so bonus runner points for talking AND running faster? Where is the scorekeeper, anyway? ;)

  5. That jacket is beautiful! I have a Run Disney one similar to it. I get a LOT of use out of it!

  6. That jacket is a way better color than black. I had that happen with a race shirt...they "forced" me to take the pretty blue instead of the half marathon gray. Yeah, twist my arm for a fun color.
Good luck this weekend!!! It feels like you "just" completed a half. Way to go! (And, is there anything better than sharing a runner's first half marathon with them? How neat.)

    1. Believe me, it feels like I just completed a half marathon, too! I don't know how you manage to do so many each year.

  7. Sophie needs to take planking lessons from Paco. She tries to lick my nose when I do planks--like she's trying to revive me or something. And I love the new jacket. Funny what a difference color makes in the total appearance of something.

    Good luck Sunday!

  8. I need another dog!! I am SO close to convincing Tony to get another one - almost. Love Paco.

I got my hat in the mail yesterday - I love it!! And considering it was only 4 degrees when I left the house today, much needed. I'll post about it tomorrow - thank you!!!

  9. I love the picture of you and your dog helping you do planks! My cat tries to help me when I lift weights. Your new race shirt looks great on you. I like tie color. I find it frustrating when the information on the race form doesn't state whether the shirt is gender specific. Then you get the shirt and it doesn't fit. This has happened a few times but I have been able to switch sizes at the expo. Now, I email the race director in advance to see how the shirts are sized. I have had good luck with receiving responses.

    1. That is a great idea, emailing the RD for sizing clarification. Plus, they might get the hint that they need to be clearer on the registration forms. ;)

  10. Pixie likes to get on the floor with me when I do floor exercises, but more rolling over so I rub her belly than actually participating in exercise LOL!

I like the color of that 'jacket' better, but still they could be brighter!

    1. I agree on the brightness. Did they forget that these were for runners??
