Mitten Monday

OK, I know it's a couple days before Christmas and most people are busy doing holiday things, so this is a light post...in fact, I can pretty much guarantee that this entire week will be fluff posts (fair warning).

After my success in knitting full-sized mittens, I wanted to try making a mitten ornament.  I found a free pattern, dug through my bin of leftover yarn, and in less than an hour, I had this:
So tiny!  So cute!!!

For scale, here's a full-size mitten next to the tiny one:
It's almost TOO cute!

Then, I made another:
And then, I got curious...
Yep.  Perfect size for Kip.  By they way, have you ever felt a cat's paw turn to Jello?  I did, when I tried to put the mitten on him!

I also made a different pair of mittens - no fingers!  I call these my "Recycled Mitts" because I made them with yarn from a cowl that I unraveled...I loved the yarn, but as it turns out, I wear only wore the cowl a couple of times, so I figured I'd rather see the yarn on something that I'd use more often, rather than hiding in my closet.

This pattern is 75 Yard Malabrigo Fingerless Mitts, if you're interested in making a pair.  Very easy to knit!

This picture is even posted on a Portuguese knitting blog - the owner asked for my permission to post the picture, and of course I said yes.  I've linked it here, hopefully with the English translation.

Mittens - for kittens, for ornaments, for actual hands...another fun project that keeps me entertained!

  4. Kip's mitten slayed me dead lol! Those are so cute.

I'm sure your kids are home now so I understand the fluff post thing. More important to spend free time with your family than writing blog posts. Merry Christmas!

  6. Love your fingerless mittens. Have you tried wearing them while knitting? I found my fingerless gloves, but haven't tried them while doing handwork. I think the mittens might be more comfortable.

    1. I haven't worn them while knitting - they're a tiny bit big, so I wonder if I should block them?

  8. Kip's face cracks. me. up. "WTF lady?" His feet look so tiny - I am so used to seeing Pixie's giant feet that other cats look like the are walking on toothpicks.

    1. Kip is small. His brother cat is ginormous...not sure if these would fit Henners, but of course you know I'm going to try!

  10. I love the tiny mittens! Would they be large enough to hold a gift card? I might want to order a set for next year. :)

    1. These aren't gift card-sized, but I will work on that and if I do, sure - orders might work for next year! Thanks for the idea. :)

  12. I Love those tiny mittens!! Several years ago a friend of mine did tiny stockings. She sold them as a fundraiser. Perfect size to stick a candybar inside and use it instead of a bow!! Love the fingerless ones too!!!
