Friday Mishmash

Thanks, you guys, for the comments on Wednesday's post.  It helps to know that I'm not alone in getting another dumb running injury, and I appreciate all the tips and commiseration.  I had another session with the PT yesterday.  I was there for almost two hours and came home with quite the list of exercises to do at home (they keep adding things each visit).  My fingers are crossed that all of this works, and if it happens to work rather quickly, that would be extra good!

We pick a Runner of the Week every Saturday in our running club.  The chosen one gets to wear the special Super Runner cape that Amy sewed, and is encouraged to take a victory lap around the parking lot before our long run...afterward, when daylight has arrived, I take pictures of them posing in the cape.  Each week I think "this is my most favorite pose ever" and then the next week I think that all over again.  But last Saturday, Sarah took it to the next level - she flew!  Look...she's airborne:
Fly, SuperSarah, Fly!!!

Also, Sarah has a unique stretch that always reminds me of PeeWee Herman doing the Tequila dance, so naturally I asked for that pose as well...and then, of course, I had to do a side-by-side comparison:
Yep, it's the PeeWee stretch all right!

My lucky streak continues with knitting - I won a bunch of mini skeins of Anzula's For Better or Worsted yarn (which I first fell in love with at a yarn store in Tallahassee):
I have a rainbow striped hat in mind for most of these lovelies...

Anzula is located in a former meat-packing plant and they are trying to raise money to put in air conditioning, so they've been spreading the word about their Indigogo campaign through knitting bloggers with these mini skein giveaways.  I entered a couple and was lucky enough to win (helps to find a giveaway that doesn't have a lot of entries...better odds).  They are located in Fresno, California, which, if you've ever been there, is just about as hot as Texas for much of the year.  I can't imagine working in an unairconditioned warehouse, but I'm glad they are willing to do so, as their yarn colors are so beautiful.  I hope they reach their goal before next summer hits!

My mom also sent me a knitting care package!  Four skeins of Madelinetosh DK yarn in Baltic, one of my favorite colorways, along with some handmade buttons.  I've already sewn one onto my fuchsia sweater, but here are the rest:
The little ones in the bottom picture are made of Fimo clay, and will be cute sewn on the brim of a hat.
I'm thinking of making a sleeveless sweater/vest with this - often during the colder months I'll wear a long-sleeved t-shirt and a down vest; this would make a pretty substitute for the down vest!

Sit and Knit (and wait for that hamstring to heal) update:  This may come as a shock, but I don't have a hat to show you this week.  I know, what is wrong with me?!  Actually I started another one, to have a project going that I can do while I chat with my fellow knitters, but mostly I've been knitting away on my sweater.  I had a tricky moment when it was time to unravel the provisional cast on and start the other half, but my runner/knitter friend Cary helped me out with that, and I was off and knitting again.  Here's how it looked a couple of nights ago - this is the top part of the front and back, and you can see where I joined the shoulder seams together:
I finally got to use the giant safety pin-like tool that I've had in my knitting supplies for nearly a year.  One of those "I'm going to be glad I have this someday" purchases...and I was!

And here's how it looks now - I've joined the front and back and am now knitting the body in the round.  Round and round and round of seed stitch...I have quite a lot to do still, but it's a great distraction from not getting to exercise:
Once I'm finished with the body, I'll add on the sleeves and the collar.  I'm excited to see how it's coming along!

Have a great weekend!

  2. Interesting: I have never knitted a sweater this way. I always knit the front and back separately and sew them together after I finished both of them. Love all your knitting colors.

Keep my fingers still crossed that the PT and exercises work for you and you will be running painfree very soon again.

  5. You would think a former meat packing plant would have big walk-in coolers that they could use to stay cool :D

I almost want to try some crotchet. Almost. I certainly do *not* need another hobby (finally in agreement with John about that).

  9. Hope your hammy is already feeling better!! Sending healing thoughts! I get depressed about it too, but all we can do is wait for our bodies to heal (stupid bodies!)
