Friday Mishmash

Hey, I'm famous!  Well, famous in that I'm quoted a couple times in an article titled "Weight-Loss Advice from Diet Bloggers" for the April issue of Health magazine - fellow AIMer Cammy is also quoted, along with several other bloggers you are probably familiar with - woohoo, go us!  The magazine should be on newsstands this weekend...of course you know I'll be getting a copy for my collection!

********************

Speaking of famous, one of OUR OWN has her very own monthly column in Quilt Life magazine - I went to Barnes and Noble to check it out:
I love that she has Sophie, reigning queen of dachshunds, in her picture...as it should be.

The other day, after a long run, I was laying in bed trying to warm up.  Henry was helping:
He was laying on my side, with his paw wrapped around my arm, hugging me...and he wasn't being his usual drooly self for a change (he drools when he purrs - picture Homer Simpson talking about donuts and you've got Henry in real life).

********************

Remember that old Palmolive commercial, the one with Madge, and the line "You're soaking in it!" - that one?  Well, we soaked our bathroom wallpaper in a Palmolive/water solution - no joke, it's what the guys at the paint shop told us to use - and scraped every bit of it off last weekend.  It worked, and was so much cheaper than a commercial wallpaper removal product, but it still was hard labor.  However, when all was said and done, my hands were super soft, so I guess ol' Madge was right all those year ago!

The spring weather this week prompted me to get a pedicure - I haven't had one since last October (I go into paranoid mode when it comes to having other people work on my feet before a race).  I had my standard favorite blue OPI polish all picked out and ready to go, when I saw this hot pink being used on the lady next to me, and it looked so happy and bright that I had to switch:
Nothing says springtime like a fresh pedicure...and weeds - but hey, at least they're green!

Sit and Knit update:  I am so pleased to report that I finally, finally, finished clues 1 and 2 of the mystery knit along shawl (technically parts 1 - 4 of it) - once I got beyond the intricate lacy stuff, the rest was smooth sailing.  I pinned the shawl so you (and I, truth be told) could see how pretty it is:

I like it!

Good thing I got those clues finished, because we got clue #3 last night at the knitting guild meeting!

Have a great weekend - we'll be busy painting and redecorating our master bedroom and bathroom.  Oh, and going for a nice little run...I'm thinking 4.5 miles?

  4. Thanks for the Palmolive tip. I've got painted-over kitchen wallpaper to remove and so far, the fabric softener/water combo isn't working well.

    Have a great weekend, Shelley!

  5. I'll be keeping my eye out for the new Health Magazine this weekend. If anyone would have some decent advice about losing and maintaining, it's you. And I'm finding it a bit annoying that your knitting prowess has far surpassed mine now! Another way you're motivating me. Have a great w/e!

  6. You are too funny! I was wondering why you said you took a picture with your phone! And if you can believe it, I did not notice until you mentioned it. They cut out Monk and Bess and left Sophie!! (they used the whole picture on 'the contributor's page,' but it was really small.)

I read the online article and it had some really good tips. And I said the same thing--"I know her!!" I'll be looking for the paper magazine. So I can take a picture of it ;)

Henry is so pretty. I love black and white cats.

I love your pedicure and I LOVE the hot pink polish!

And, your shawl is gorgeous. Pinning it up is a good idea. Otherwise, its way too long to wait for the reward of seeing how pretty it is. Good luck with clue #3.

  8. I do love how this post is just random thoughts! :D And that a little run of ONLY 4.5 miles - go Shelley!

I've been banned from painting at my house. I tried to paint Hannah's room 12 years ago, and um, let's just say we had to hire a professional to finish the job! :D

    Happy Friday!

  9. I need to get on my painting projects too. I have about 1/3 of the house to finish! Yikes!

White vinegar (1c) in a bucket of hot water also works great on old wallpaper.

    Happy weekend indeed!

  15. I love your blog and all the interesting stuff that goes on in your life. I couldn't help but notice on the pedi photo the flip flops you have on. Are they Orthaheels? My all time favorite brand for flops and shoes alike!! I seriously own about six pair! They are the only shoes that keep my planter fasciitis (probably spelled wrong) at bay. Just wondering.

Thanks for your great insight on life with a touch of humor added in.

    1. They are Orthaheels! I bought them a while back when my heel and arch started bothering me, and I ended up living in them all summer, fall and most of winter. Think it's time to get another color, at least - these are still doing great.

Thank YOU for such a sweet comment! :)
