Friday Mishmash

I have taken the laziest approach to Christmas decorating this year - I guess maybe because I was concentrating on another date in December (last Sunday's race), or that I've been busy knitting, but aside from putting up our little tree, no other decorations are out yet.  But now all my knitting is finished and in the mail, so tonight I'll be a decorating fool - and the house will be all nice and Christmas-y for when the boys come home on Monday.

I do have a few ornaments on the tree, though - four were gifts, and one that I made.  I think we can see a theme brought on by my new hobby this year:
I made this one
 From my friend Terry
This one and the stocking below came from my mom - she bought them from a man who knits while waiting around in airports as he travels.  P.S.  The hat fits Barbie...yes, I checked!
A tiny sock!  I don't have the courage to knit a regular-sized sock...super impressed with this!
From my secret Santa in the knitting guild - a knitter's emergency kit!
Yarn, tiny knitting needles, even a Christmas light stitch marker - so cute!

Quite a while ago, I wrote about a young man in our running club who had taken on the challenge of running 1,000 miles in boots - specifically, soldier's boots, to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.  We saw him before the race started on Sunday, and he said that with this half marathon, he would hit his goal.  And he did - congratulations, JP!  Here's a link to his blog if you want to read his thoughts on that last run.

Speaking of running (oh WERE we??), the race pictures were posted.  And my gosh, were they ever horrible.  It wasn't just me - pretty much everyone looked bad.  And the ones where we played with the camera?  Oh no.  Remind me to never do that again.  Jeff and I were just about to take a GU when we came on a photographer, so we held up the packets and smiled.  She took five shots, and in each one, my expression progressively got goofier - think Jerry Lewis/Nutty Professor goofy.  Of course, Jeff seized the opportunity with my GU picture and Coach Will's look of death as he ran to the finish line:
I have no words...

And in these shots, I don't know why we were doing this, except that I think we were only about a mile into it and still full of energy:
Raise the roof?  Gig 'em?  Who knows.

So yeah.  If we ever get good official race pictures, I'll buy them.  But not these - unless we want a good laugh!

Have a great weekend!

  3. LOL I saw the one that Jeff did on FB and it laughed out loud. He's funny. For what it's worth: I look awful on running pics too.

I love the last ornament in your tree, it's beautiful.

I don't overdo my Christmas decorations and am finished. But now the lights are breaking down. Need to figure out how to replace them without having to remove all the ornaments first.

  6. Adore your ornaments. I want a Santa Hat. Just sayin'

Race photos are usually terrible. I think it's because we expect that we'll look like the photos in Runner's World. The thing is those photos are staged and when you're running IRL, you get what you get lol! I do like the one of you with both your hands up. "Raise your hand in the air, wave 'em 'round like you just don't care!:

    1. See, we need to remember that - we aren't posing for running pictures, we're actually running. One person posted a comment about them saying he swears he runs, but in every picture his feet are solidly on the ground. Maybe races should only have finish line pictures!

  7. I saw that picture on Facebook and loved it!! I've never bought a race picture either - mostly because I could only afford to enter the race!

One way or another Tony assures me we'll get access to my decorations, and my house will look like it threw up snowmen! Can't wait! Have a great weekend Shelley!

  8. The knitting themed ornaments are cracking me up!

I actually don't think the pictures are that goofy. It looks like you are enjoying the race.

  9. The santa hat is adorable!

I thought that one photo you were signaling 10 miles and I thought you looked so fresh, but then I guess it was just 1 mile? ;)

  10. I had to go back and catch up on some of your posts and I'm so proud of you for your half marathon!! You will always be my running inspiration. I try so hard to look good in those photos when I see the photographers but I always look like I'm in pain :)

  13. I love all of your knitted ornaments! I didn't put up any decorations this year except the Target wreath; it's hard to want to bother when we are out of town for the holidays.

LOL at your expressions in the racing shots. Does anyone take a good picture mid-run? I doubt it!
