New Diet!

Over the weekend I discovered a whole new diet.  And, if you follow it, not only will you lose weight, but you'll end up with fabulous items to keep you warm and toasty!  Which you will need once the weight comes off, because once you lose that body fat, you end up being cold all the time.  Win-win, right?

So, what's the miracle diet?  Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Sit and Knit diet.  Items needed include:
  • knitting needles
  • yarn
  • comfortable chair
  • TV with remote
Optional item:  computer with internet access so you can view YouTube demos on how to do various stitches.

Notice I did not include any food.  That's because when you are knitting, both hands are busy and you can't be eating!

OK, this is a little facetious, but in all seriousness, having something that keeps my hands busy (and they have to be clean...it's bad enough that there is dog and cat fur being drawn into my scarf - I wouldn't want food crumbs, too) and my mind occupied, between having to pay attention to what I was knitting AND to what I was watching on TV (Downton Abbey - first season is on Netflix and I thoroughly enjoyed it) is a winner in my book.  Now, I will admit that all that sitting got to be a bit much, but this is also why it's the perfect all-around diet, because after a while, you actually WANT to get up and exercise!  Win-win-win!

After hours of sitting and knitting, what do I have to show for it?  Here ya go:
Um yeah.  It doesn't look like much, but see all that loose yarn?  This piece was much wider and longer, but I decided that it was too wide for a scarf, so I unraveled it and started over.

So what do you think - is the Sit and Knit diet the hottest new thing?  Do you think The Biggest Loser or Richard Simmons would endorse it?  LOL, probably not.  But hey - I had an empty house this weekend, and it not only kept me busy, but I stayed on track with my healthy eating, which was exactly what I needed!

  1. I would ask patent on it before someone steals your diet and gets rich with it :)

Sounds like the perfect distraction to stay away from food. I make a lot of puzzles at the moment, don't cross stitch that much nowadays. But both keep my hands busy and I don't eat either then.

Looks like it's going to be a great scarf Shelley. Watching it almost makes me want to pick up knitting again .... almost :)

  2. I would fail at that diet I think...I get so stressed out knitting (I'm terrible at it), that I end up wanting to stress eat LOL!

Painting my nails...now that would work!

  3. I too find it so much easier to not even THINK about food when I am busy so I think it's quite possible your diet may be the next smash hit. Would you like me to be your agent and start booking appearances?

  4. Good for you. When I am in school I find I eat less. Anything to keep the mind mind and hands off food. Love the colors of the yarn. Nice!

  6. LOL, I'm afraid I have the evidence to prove your diet wrong--lots of gorgeous sweaters with a 60 inch circumference. Somehow I managed to get plenty of food in while knitting, spinning, dying, and processing the fiber.

But I agree. Having your hands busy, and more important, your mind occupied, is a good tool to keep your mind off the food. LOL at the cat and dog hair being incorporated. And good job on the knitting! I'm so proud of you!

    1. Knitting? Debby taught me a few weeks ago, so this is my first go at it. I tried it a few years back but couldn't catch on - this time, it clicked.

  9. Great and practical hobby...and any idea can sell...get "Sit and Knit" copy-written...buy the domain, the FB and Twitter handles, etc...just in case!

After all, you could also knit while perched on a fitness ball for a core strength workout!

  10. Love the color wave on your scarf! Can I tell you how many times I've undone something that was almost done and restarted because I found an unbearable error somewhere.

It's a great way to control the food intake, and all that finger movement must burn a few cals per hour!

I love your diet!! Are there any rules regarding having people feed you while knitting? Lol

  14. I think it sounds fabulous, but I don't knit. I never learned to do any of that stuff. Can't sew, needle point, cross stitch, knit or crochet. Sigh..maybe someday. I guess I'm going to have to watch that Downtown Abbey and see what everyone is talking about!

  15. Okay, I just might have to join the Downton Abbey bandwagon - and I ran across my knitting stuff just yesterday while working out in the garage. Cute scarf - love the yarn. I like to go to the yarn stores just to "pet" the textiles.

  19. Thanks for commenting on my blog today:) Yours is actually one of the first ones I read way back when I started my own. (I still remember your great makeover when I was on the waiting list for the same blog designer!)

Last year I decided to (re)learn to knit. I had done it decades ago in high school, but never a lot or very advanced. I had my neighbor teach me. That didn't work so well. Then I tried online options. That worked better. My entire purpose was to keep my hands busy when I watch TV so I don't snack! Great minds think alike. And I also just discovered Downton Abbey by watching season one on Netflix. Fun.

  21. Hi Shelley, not only will you make a zillion billion scarves and mittens, you'll make a zillion billion dollars if you pitch this to a publisher!!!!! Before you know it, you'll be on Dr. Oz and we'll all say 'wow...we knew her when she was just a blogger.." :) Joking aside, what a great idea. Your second book can be about crocheting, and it'll be call the "Slim Hooker". OMG...did I actually write that???? sigh. I've lost it. Have a great day.
