Shopping counts as a workout, right? The walking, the arm strengthening as you carry hangers and hangers of clothing, the contortions (stretching!) as you try to shimmy into and out of certain items (sports bras are especially challenging), the bending down to try on shoes - it all adds up to a workout when you shop like Barbara and I do!
We also wiggled into these Vibram Five Finger running shoes:
Now THAT was a workout!!! Honestly, I'd think twice or even thrice before deciding on wearing these, even just for everyday and not running. These are not easy to get on, not at all! But it was fun to try them - we were at the Fleet Feet in Aptos, and the store owner was very welcoming and nice, so we gave these a test drive. Well, Barbara gave them more of a test drive than me - she actually got both feet into them. I gave up after one foot - that about did me in!
Getting back to workouts, though - I actually did something new, something that I've been curious to try but not brave enough to do it on my own - we went to a yoga class on Tuesday! And you know what? I liked it. Luckily Barbara gave me a little lesson the night before, so I understood when the instructor would say things like "curl your toes under" and "child pose" and other mysteries...that really helped me keep up. Also, I gave up trying to inhale and exhale at the correct moments as I was doing the poses and just concentrated on getting the pose down, and that worked for me. Breathing will come later. ;) By the way? I broke a sweat in that class, and it wasn't because it was hot yoga - it was intense! We are planning on going to another class on Friday...should be fun!
First I think those Vibram shoes are ugly :) I need more support on my feet although I have to admit I never tried them on. They're just not calling my name to try.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you've tried yoga. I like yoga too. We don't have classes in my town so I use online classes for it. I believe it's a great workout to combine with running.

ReplyDeleteSo glad you liked yoga.
ReplyDeleteWatch out, it comes with it's own wardrobe.
My back always hurts from shopping, I think it IS a workout.
Can't wait to see you "buys"
Glad to see another yoga convert in the making!
ReplyDeleteI'm so intrigued by those Vibrams! I may have to give them a whirl one day!
ReplyDeleteYay for yoga!
As your BIF am I allowed to say I told you so?
ReplyDeleteI was surprised too at how much of a workout yoga is - I still want to do the hot yoga - but the nearest class is 45 minutes from my house and it starts at 7:00 a.m.!
ReplyDeleteOh good for you. Trying yoga. I need a yoga buddy. I am not surprised those shoes are hard to put on. Love your owrkout this week.
ReplyDeleteKevin's dad uses those Five Fingers shoes for his water workouts. They're popular among the senior group. :-)
ReplyDeleteHey, LIGHT BULB!! Let's buy a house in Aptos, and take turns vacationing there! :-)
I guess we have to wait until Friday for the results of the shopping spree!
ReplyDeleteAnd yoga. One of my goals to get into a good class!
Those shoes freak me out! I'm so glad you enjoyed yoga!!! The breathing part does get easier :)
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to try those shoes. Out of curiosity. I pretty much grew up bare foot so I wonder if I'd enjoy them. Getting in to them does not sound fun. Plus they don't exactly go with a fashion Friday, do they? I don't remember if I told you or not but I saw a guy running in those at the Seawall Half Marathon! Ouch!
ReplyDeleteYoga. Wow! Love to see you trying new things.
Love my Vibram 5 Finger KSO "shoes"! I feel perfectly balanced in them, unlike when in any other shoes. They are great for the trails, paths and even roads around the desert.
ReplyDeleteFor those who have always used running shoes, these are not to be entered into lightly. Takes a while to get used to changing your heel strike (which is not natural and bone jarring) to a mid-foot or forefoot strike, but many marathon and shorter distance runners here now use them.
Yes, they are unusual looking - OK, they are ugly, but I would live in mine if my dang right little toe fit a little better and there were more color options!
I've been very intrigued with the toe shoes! :-)
ReplyDeleteWay to go on trying a new workout!
Love, love, love yoga. But, I like to do it in the privacy of my own home. Glad you liked the class!
ReplyDeleteI was exhausted just reading your first paragraph about shopping. Plus I couldn't get my creepy toes into those Vibrams though if you were to see my real creepy toes, they look similar to how your toes look inside the Vibrams. Just creepy.
ReplyDeleteI can tell that your foot is in the blue.
Glad you liked the yoga class. I go 3 times a week, one is a good stretchy, non sweaty class, the other is a REALLY good workout. Have a great Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteLaughing at the Vibrams. When I look at the shape of those and the shape of my feet - no way are the fitting in there without a crow bar.
ReplyDeleteI am just not a fan of yoga. Like meditation, I feel the need to do stuff. Some poses are nice for stretching, but it's not part of my repertoire after multiple tries.
Those shoes are wild!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on yoga, it intimidates me as well!
You have an award on my blog!

I always thought those shoes look funny.. there's this guy I always see on the subway wearing them - reminds me of something a sporty ninja would wear..lol
ReplyDeleteYay for yoga! And Vibrams scare me a little...
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you were here until I saw you with Janelle! Hope you have a great trip.
ReplyDeleteYay for yoga! I need to try it again. I'm SO not flexible. Yikes!

ReplyDeleteI love my vibrams. The key is to not be impatient while putting them on. I kid you not. And yoga is my life saver right now. I need it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, really -
ReplyDeleteNot so sure about those shoes, either!
Cool class, though!
Glad you liked it and were brave enough to give it a try!
Those shoes have always frightened me. You are a brave soul for trying even one of them on!
