It finally dawned on me that while I can't run, I CAN walk. I swear, the sheer brilliance of my mind astounds me sometimes. Walk?!? Wha??? Dur, Shelley. I don't know if you've noticed, but I've been in a bit of an exercise funk lately. Oh, you have noticed??? Yeah...guess I have not been hiding it very well. I've been bummed about not being able to run, and then I look at my cute running outfits and get all sad that I can't wear them, and then the weather here in Texas turned so nice and warm - and I was stuck with going to the gym to do the redumbent (not a typo) bike or the elliptical. One of the things I ended up liking about running was the fact that I went somewhere, even if it was just in a big 5 or 10 mile loop. Kept it more interesting for me. You can't do that at the gym.
So yesterday I suited up:
So yesterday I suited up:
Nearly two months of no running plus lots of stress eating makes for a lovely belly AND jigglier-than-normal thighs...but I do love my new running skirt!
I drove to the park, where I put on my headphones and listened to my running playlist while I walked all over (and sang along - something that is not possible, for me anyway, to do while I'm running) (did I mention that people were few and far between at the park? I wouldn't have had the nerve to sing if it was crowded). It felt great - I walked as fast as I could make my short legs go! I loved feeling the sun on my face (properly protected with sunscreen, of course) and the sweat on my body...I've missed this.
I was so happy to see 3.1 miles on Ricky Bobby - that is a runner's number to me. :)And this? Is the face of a very happy person:
oh girl my post totally made me smile this morning.
ReplyDelete(it is just for me right?)
your mojo is back and it's emanating from your CORE.
xo xo
YAY!
ReplyDeleteFantastic!
ReplyDeleteWhat are you doing April 30? I have 26 miles for you to walk, and there is NO doubt you have the correct pink attire :)
You my Dear, are a genius! Wish we could be Walking Buddies.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Back.....and you do look very happy.
I went on a long walk last weekend and it reminded me how much I enjoy just walking sometimes instead of running! Yay for getting out there, Shelley!
ReplyDeleteyay!!! Go Ricky Bobby and you!
ReplyDeleteThough your walking speed is about my running speed! lol
You're walking on air!
ReplyDelete"I'm walking on sunshine, yeah yeah, I'm walking on sunshine!"
ReplyDeleteWOOT!
There you go. I knew it was there all along...
Paco cracks me UP.
Yay! Glad that you had such a great time. Love the skirt, so cute!
ReplyDeleteYou're so funny...aren't you just astounded at the 'duh' moments? :-). Good for you, and cute skirt.
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is weird. As someone who officially gave up running and decided on just walking, *I* also never thought about you walking instead of running!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see that smile on your face!
You are too cute with your coordinating running outfits.
ReplyDeleteI ALMOST took a picture of my work out clothes yesterday - um, turns out not only my shirt BUT my sweat pants had stains on them - nice!
I've been keeping up with your Momma on her blog - I told her, but you can remind her for me - it's okay to take the pain medication! :D
Oh, that puppy! The reproachful look! Did it take a lot of treats before he forgave you?
ReplyDeleteShe's back! Hooray!!! I was thinking how totally Shelley I was this morning after my group training session. That helped you get where you are today and I'm going to follow right in your footsteps :) Hope mom is good.
ReplyDeleteWalking. What a concept! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy walking. A LOT! Most of the time more than I enjoy running. There, I said it. LOL
Glad you're getting back out there. And love the skirt, dahling. Tres chic.
Are you loving this weather or what?! Spring has sprung.
Look at the big smile at the end - I love it!
ReplyDeleteOh BIG yay!!!! LOVE the walking, the skirt and little Paco!! Have a GREAT day, and regards to your recovering mom!!
ReplyDeleteYEA!!!!! So happy for you. This made me grin. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWalking is great!! While I was out from running I took up power walking...kinda felt silly (had the arms and hips swinging). But your right, exercising outside and still being able to put in miles feels great!
ReplyDeleteWay to go, glad you are able to get out and walk! Keep it up!
I was SO bummed when I realized I wouldn't be able to run the St. Paddy's day race on Saturday when my mom said, "But why don't you just walk it?" And I was all. "Well, duh..."
ReplyDeleteEdward says: welcome back Ricky Bobby, I've missed you!
ReplyDeleteMy dear Shelley I'm so happy to see
a) a happy face
b) a matching running outfit
c) 3.1 miles on Ricky Bobby
Wasn't it an option to take Paco along?
And for the singing, sometimes when I'm running and there's no one around I just shout out 1 line of a song and be quiet again :) it helps me when it's difficult.
You look radiant! I feel like I just went out on a walk with you. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteGoooo Shelley! Great idea to walk. And you look great - don't negative self talk. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is great news. Good to see Rickybobby with so many miles and sad to see Paco with that pathetic look on his face. ;-) Damn dogs!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you Shelley! That's the way to make lemonade out of lemons. I went back to the gym today after my foot surgery. We have to make due with what we've got! Keep on keeping on girl. You Rock!
ReplyDeleteAbout the pants: definitely NOT harem pants, I hate those :) so not elegant! It's just the pipes that are different, for the rest it's a normal model.
ReplyDeleteYou ARE brilliant :) So's the skirt. Like the others said, it's sooo good to see that smile back on your face. Squee!! Your posts just make me happy :)
ReplyDeleteYeah for Ricky Bobby making a comback. Isn't it funny that when you think of the things you can't do you don't think of the things you CAN do. I love walking and I think you can get a pretty good workout from it! And you running skirt is super cute too!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! My hubby got me the same garmin for Christmas and I cant wait to use it when it warms up (and dries up) here in NY.
ReplyDeleteHope your mom is doing well? I am a little behind in my blog reading.
Jennifer
I'm so happy that you are out there walking in the beautiful weather and getting to wear your snazzy outfits. I hope your mom is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're back out there walking -- love the outfit!
