And now, on to the random part of this post...
Have you ever had one of those days when you felt like you could gnaw your arm off? Wednesday was like that for me, and I don't know if it was the combination of an intense workout late in the afternoon on Tuesday, plus just barely hitting 1200 calories eaten for the day, and then another hard workout on Wednesday morning, but I was STARVING for most of the day! I started the day with half a protein bar before my workout, then I had my vanilla protein powder blended with some frozen fruit, then a few hours later I had two tablespoons of natural peanut butter on a whole wheat 100 calorie English muffin, then I had my Greek yogurt/cereal/dried cranberries combination, and finally an Attune dark chocolate probiotic bar (basically a healthy candy bar - thanks, Lori, for turning me onto these!). I drank a ton of water throughout all of this eating - you'd think I would have been filled up, but boy did it take me a while! Later on I had half of a big turkey and avocado sandwich and a banana for dinner. Plus my two Dove Promises, which I have back under control, thanks to their car banishment. I felt like I ate all day long.

I finally broke down and bought myself a new pair of workout pants, after trying on a bunch of them over the last couple of weeks. The pair I liked above and beyond everything was a "slim fit" Nike capri - it really held all of my jiggly bits firmly in place. What was hard was spending that kind of money - Nike ain't cheap - but I rationalized that I wear these things at least three times a week for my workouts, plus a couple of extra times when I go running, so I should get what I really liked. Still, it was hard...especially after repairing my dumb car window. But I didn't spend money on a new sports bra - I tried on pretty much everything in our one sporting goods store and they didn't perform any better than the two-bra layering system I'm currently using. So I'm going to save my money and buy what I consider to quite possibly be the world's ugliest sports bra...the Enell. I hear it really, really works. And shoot, it's not like I will be parading around without a shirt over it, so in the interest of no bouncing I will give it a try. Between the new workout pants which are made of a compression-type fabric and the bra, it would appear I don't like to jiggle. My dream workout outfit would be a total body compression suit - think they make one?
I am getting excited about running a 5K! There are two coming up in my area and I'm going to do both. I have a date with my running buddy, Jeri, for tomorrow after I am done with work - we have plans to run/walk the 5K distance to see how we do. A bunch of people from my workout place are going to run the second 5K on March 7, and Kelly from Happy Texans is planning on coming up here to run it with us - how fun is that?!? I also found a shirt that would be perfect for me to wear for these races:

All I want to do is finish the 5K - so I think this shirt is says it all!
I love when my workout clothes hold in all my jiggly bits! My butt and thighs look so much better in my compression biking shorts. Now if I could just do something about the belly roll that spills out on top:(

Your gonna do great at your 5k's, plus your gonna have so much fun. Can't wait to read your race report!
ReplyDeleteBeing a big busted women I have found Champion compression sports bras to be worth the money. They cost as much as a regular expensive bra is the down side. I've never tried compression sports pants. The ones I use are from target and they are so big on me now that I could probably use a smaller size:)
If you have a Marshalls or TJ Max store near you I would check them out for workout gear. I got some Nike and other brands of yoga pants for 1/2 the original price.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the 5K.
I think I've mentioned this before, but my workout/running clothes and shoes are the one thing I do not skimp on! I second the Marshall's/TJ Maxx suggestion. There are lots of times I do find great fitting things there. As for the gnaw off the arm syndrome, well, I've had it almost every day this week. For some reason it has been real work for me to hold my calories under the 1550 max that I want to eat.
ReplyDeleteThe Nike stuff is expensive, but it lasts and wears like iron. I've got some Nike running pants that are awesome. I feel like Wonder Woman when I were them. It's not what they cost, but how you feel when you wear them that's important. EggNog Tumor Support(TM)POD is of vital concern.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was closer - I'd do the 5k with ya! Awesome....
I need that shirt!
ReplyDeleteAlas, I feel gnawingly hungry most of the time. I think that's a sign you're doing too much exercise and too little protein. (At least, the doctor told me I needed to eat more protein, but what does she know.)
That shirt is adorable and I LOVE that color of sage green! Too cute!
ReplyDeleteYou will do FINE on your 5K's...not a doubt in my mind!
Thanks!! I have e-mailed you :)
ReplyDeleteWorkout gear is something i've never bought! I just wear what ever i've got that would work.
Maybe that would be a nice goal prize?
Total body compression = trisuit. Get one, you'll love it! Okay, no upper arm compression, but that's okay.
ReplyDeleteTJMaxx carried a lot of workout gear for a great price (at least around here). I got a Nike technical shirt for $15! I am addicted to workout clothes.
Yay for attune bars!
I'm excited about your running of the 5k also. And wearing that shirt is going to be funny.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the pants? I have more jiggle than a bowl of Jello.I LOVE that shirt. Must have it. Girl, you will totally beat me in the race.
ReplyDeleteI keep having dreams that I am able to run a mile without getting winded. I think I'm trying to tell myself something. Ya know, I just want to be able to finish without feeling like I'm going to die.
That reminds me: I need to do my
C25K today.
And order that shirt. ;-)
Hmmmm...you're right that the Enell bra isn't pretty, but my beef with it is the front closure. Bleah. It's been a while since I looked at a catalog, but I think Title 9 sells a lot of very serious sports bras. I remember pining after a couple of them a few years back.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the 5K; I'll bet you do very well!
It took me a long time to believe that I looked better in closer fitting workout pants than my gigantic baggy ones! Glad you got some.
ReplyDeleteAnd the 5K? You will do fabulous and have fun at the same time.
Love the shirt. I totally feel like that at the races I go to!!
ReplyDeleteI hate spending the cash on workout clothes too, but I'm getting better at it. I'm hoping for some for my birthday in March.
You'll do great in the 5K. Just finishing is such a high!
Shelley, that didn't seem like that much food. But I guess it adds up quickly.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to look for those enelle sports bras, I think I lucked out, because they had a brand called panache on sale for I think $21. I just checked on Amazon, and they are $66 now. It is a very supportive bra, I must say.
I've been thinking about putting out some bucks for some better looking workout clothes too. And I was going to check out Marshalls and TJ Maxx too.
Keeping the jiggly bits restrained is totally worth the money. And you're right...those sports bras are super fugly. At least if they designed them with more of a bullet shaped cup, it would be retro.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found pants that keep all your jiggly bits in place - sadly I know exactly what you mean!
ReplyDeleteLove the shirt too - you are awesome doing both races!
Happy Saturday Shelley - have an awesome weekend!
So impressed with you and the jiggly bits doing a 5K. You will rock it just like everything else you've taken on. Go Shelley!!
ReplyDeleteI want that shirt as I'm a slow runner!
ReplyDeleteShelly this should be so much fun if you do your 5K on March 7 because I just signed in for a run on that exact date too :)
You're right to have bought the Nike pants. We have a warehouse where they sell sport's bra which are as good as the expensive ones for about 10 dollar or so and they fit great! Give me your size and address and I'll buy one as a gift for you.You can mail me at frenchie35@xs4all.nl I'm not joking, I mean it!
I know the hungry feeling, I've got the same when I ate not enough during the day at nights.
I was just looking at that shirt. I also like the one that on the back says,
ReplyDelete"Dear God,
Please let there be someone behind me to read this."
Ennell bras are wonderful. Well worth the money.
ReplyDeleteI am also a HUGE fan of having all the juggling under control before the workout. Whenever I get stuck with the appropriate chest wear, my workouts feel a lot more uncomfortable and my endurance goes down the drain. Good for you for springing for what you really wanted (and deserve) and for pushing your own goals to fruition.
ReplyDeleteI love that shit, lol, made me laugh out loud. Would suit me perfectly!!
ReplyDeleteI bought a girdle and sports bra about 3-4 months ago. The girdle is still going strong but the sports bra seems to be giving up the ghost already. Weird. I figured those things lasted forever. My tits are shrinking...the horror!!
Thanks for hipping me on the Enell game. I am going to order one soon. Ugly... but works wonders (reviewers say).
ReplyDeleteI love that shirt . . . I'll definitely need one like it when I work my way up to my first 5K :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard great things about the Enell bras . . . hope you like yours.
I've definitely had days where I felt like grazing non-stop - here's to you for making really great choices and keeping it well under control!
