Looking Ahead

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to take a page out of Fat[Free]Me's book and buy a pair of pants (in this case, bermudas) the next size down. I've always liked how she writes about hanging a pair of pants on the back of her door so she is constantly aware of her next goal...and it's been fun to read when she tries the pants on and they fit! So here they are, and here is my public declaration that one of these days, hopefully before summer ends, I will fit into them!

P.S. As our first cold day isn't traditionally until Halloween, I feel pretty certain that I will get to wear them this summer!

P.S.S. Just so you know, I can get them on, but the zippage ain't happening. Plus they are skintight!

P.S.S.S. Anybody else do something like this?

  1. That's so funny, I only just got my next pair down (size 16) after a couple of weeks being convinced they look far too small.

I tried them on and the zip won't get done up, unless I quit breathing and they do that messy fat squishing up thing (ugh!). But I look at them every morning and know that one day I will fit in them. As you will fit in your size 10s!

  3. Good for you! That was one of the exciting things for me on my trip DOWN the scale! I treated myself to a new pair of jeans every time the old ones got too big! From a 28 all the way down to a 6!!!

  4. I have hung on to a pair of jeans that I use to wear. They are so old that they are almost white. And a few days ago, i "tried" them on. Meaning I got them over my hips, but i feel certain that the zipper would have ripped out had I attempted to actaully zip them. That is when I starting giving serious thought to the walking again. :-)

  5. I love Miss FatFree's idea as well. I always have a pair that I am trying to get into!

Here's to being able to breath.....and zip up!

  6. Nah, I just plot out my next jewelry purchase (reward.) LOL

Impressive that you can even pull 10's on!!!! KUDOS for even that, girlie!!!!

You are too cute. I KNOW you will get there! In fact, I personally challenge you to get their by my birthday, Sept. 16. I mean, be able to zip them up. They can still be uber tight, but by my birthday, I want those suckers zipped!!! :D

  7. I think that's a great idea. Back when I lost 100 pounds I always had the next size down pants. I would put them on the back of the closet door where they would get in my way every day and I would make sure to notice. I might have to do that again!!

  8. It's a great idea - I know you'll make it into those 10s by the end of your summer.

Old Navy recently had an online sale on jeans, and I bought two pair . . . a 20 (a bit loose/good for now) and an 18 (skintight/next goal).

  9. This is such a great motivation. I have my pair hanging up in my closet to where I see them every time I walk by :)

  12. This is such a great idea! Since I'm in the opposite situation, having gained some weight back, I think I'll hang a few of the skinny things that I used to be able to wear to motivate me to get rid of that last 8 pounds (and who knew 8 pounds could make such a difference in the fit of your clothes???)

  13. I think that's a great idea. I have a cute pair of shorts that's one size lower that I would love to wear!

I can get them over my hips, but that's about it!

I think I will hang them in my room to keep me motivated, great idea!

  14. I kept one pair of my big jeans from when I was a big, big girl. They are pretty funny.
I don't buy smaller clothes to try to fit into though I fit better into my existing smaller clothes since I went on the breakup diet.

  15. I have been saying I was going to do this! You have inspired me to actually do it, Shelley Bell!

Sounds like an excuse for a shopping trip this weekend.

  17. I've got a beautiful suit in my closet which I bought last year on sale but it doesn't fit right yet. So yes: I did that too :)

Good for you and you certainly are going to wear it before Halloween!

The red currants are a bit sour but they taste good in f.e. yoghurt.

  18. Great idea! My closet has clothes from size 22 down to size 12 (well, the 12s might be in storage)...so I do not have to buy anything! I can just rummage around for the next size down and put it somewhere prominent. Good idea...I am going to go look for the 16s now. :) They might not be fashionable....but I bet most of my 12s are back in style..since the last time I wore those was about 16 years ago! :)

  20. Just found your blog!! Love the way you write. :)

I love that FatFreeMe does that...I think it's so cool. Right now I'm saving up for a new pair of New Balances for when I hit my next 15 lb loss goal....after that, I may just buy a smaller pair of jeans. :)

  21. I love that now both you two are doing this.

Me? I'm to tight with money to go buy a new pair of anything to wait for. lol

I should get to a store by myself and try clothes on. The latest I bought were a used pair of capris size 20. I should see what I can get new. I don't know, this may seem strange, but having a size 18 of anything hanging in my room might freak me out a bit too much.

  22. Oh you skinny minnie and your size 10! I think that's a great idea. Maybe I should pull one of the many pieces of clothing I bought in anticipation of fitting into them and hang them on the door too. Ooops - I'm gonna need a bigger door.

  23. Awesome idea!!! Keep your eyes on the prize!!! You'll hit your goal I bet! :) I have gotten back into all but one pr. Of my skinny jeans.. So I'm busting my butt and keeping my eyes on the prize! ;)

I just bought myself a very pricey pr of shoes for a reward... I'm now 11lbs from my goal!

Just found your blog through Frans, I'm going to bookmark you, hope that's ok!

    Have a fabulous night!!! :)

  24. Love this idea! I have a pair of black pants that are a size down, and they are my mini-goal pants right now... once I can fit into those, I will totally buy the next size down. And, I kept a pair of my big jeans so when I reach my final goal, I can do one of those cool pictures with me holding out the old jeans to show how much weight I've lost!

  25. and the rate we're going it could be....feb before its cool enough to don them

watch out they might just sliiiiiiiide down your hips at that point :)

here's to loose in a month!

  26. "The zippage ain't happening" totally cracked me up.

Sounds like a great motivational trick, hope it helps you feel inspired!

  27. You'll model them for us, right? (Not to add any pressure...lol)

I had kept some "skinnier" clothes from my past so as I was losing, I'd dig them out (especially this blue silk lined skirt and jacket I had only worn once) and try them on every so often. Well, I forgot for a couple of months and by the time I remembered the blue skirt, I could put it on without unzipping. Crap! I missed the opportunity to wear it one last time! Oh well...someone at Goodwill got a very nice outfit :)

  28. Absolutely! I have a pair of "goal" pants - they are a size 8 - like you, I can put them on, but the zipper isn't going anywhere yet!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I used to things like that. Maybe I will try it again. I can't believe you are almost a size 10--that is awesome!!!!!! I haven't been a size 10 since like 7th grade. That is just super cool! Can't wait to see them on and fitting! Blessings--Bonnie

  30. OH! I totally did this, and I wrote about it on my blog. I bought a pair of motivational jeans in a size 8 that I wanted to wear over Memorial Day (I think I bought them in March maybe) I took a "before" picture of my fat squishing over the top of the jeans and then I took an "after" of me actualling fitting in the jeans...it really kept me motivated! I totally need to do something like this again.

  31. I bought sizes down fairly often as I lost (since I had a lot to go through LOL!). I do not have the nerve to buy a pair of 6s, though - even though I found a pair of size 6 shorts that fit (those really were wonky big, but I didn't care!).

The only problem I had with doing that is that I didn't know how the item would look on me, and sometimes I bought a very unflattering pair of pants :D

  32. Just discovered your blog and am delighted that I did! I, too, am another 40-something working toward losing some weight; thank you for the inspiration!

  33. Ah, I remember moving from 12s to 10s. Effing sweet feeling. I hope to do it again someday.

Once I get into a 14 I may use this strategy. Lord knows I have the pants already.
